Fair enough.  I'm just at that stage where every hype post for SWTOR I see I just want to smack it, lol.  Guess I just need to stay away from them until launch or NDA drop.

My experience tells me I won't have this problem.

Not trying to start a trion vs. bw argument or anything, just looking to educate the OP on the fact that Trion isn't just some tiny outfit with no money or experience.  It's an extrenely well-funded, skilled and experienced company.

Um.....what other MMOs has Trion developed?

I thought RIFT was their first one, just like SWTOR is Bioware's 1st?

Trion is a great developer mate, but if Trion was "well funded", Bioware is the CENTRAL BANK. If Trion had "experience", Bioware is the INSTRUCTOR. If Trion is "skilled", Bioware would be the MASTER.

Trion is anything but small. Largly influenced by their counterparts, just like the guys from Runic Games and Red 5 Studios.

I posted in several threads about the fact that I felt Rift would be a good game.

Scott Hartsman totally turned around EQ2 after it launched. The gonne be ex wife used to play that game all the time after she got home from work. That crap went on for 5 yrs.

Yep, I would say he is a capable producer.

Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.

What's fun and enjoyable is subjective(hey the fanboys here told me that, don't go back on your words ;) ). And RIFT's dying btw, I like RIFT and Trion, but I can't change the fact that it's still dying.

I have my issues with Swtor to be sure but I have WAAAAAAY more issues with Rift.

I know Swtor is the traditional themepark design and more related to Wow than many other mmo's but it still has planets you go to at higher levels nearly as large as the ENTIRE Rift world map!!

That has to be something at least.

    You stay sassy!

god I want to play TOR so bad.  When I log into another game to waste time its like "siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"

I would be a bit more worried about TOR's quality and gameplay, but I have 2 guildmates that got into beta, and seeing as for years we have liked the same games, and mostly played those games the same way, now I have nothing to fear.. It's like I got the go ahead to geek out lmao

So now its just the waiting game.. Sometimes I feel like im too old to be this excited about a game, but it sure is fun :)  My wife is only a moderate level MMO player.. as in she got to max level in other games but never really raided or did much end game, and I thought she had moved on from MMOs, shes been watching vids lately and I heard her talking her sister and her husband into pre-ordering the other day lol

Im no sucker for hype, but I am hyped about ToR something aweful..

Yeah, I know exactly how you feel.  Whenever I see a GW2 video, I fall asleep.  Just doesn't look good at all.  Of course, the difference between you and I is that I don't feel the need to jump on the GW2 forums and crow about that fact on every thread since I realize people have different tastes in games.

Safe to assume that your disgust with SWTOR will not be shared by millions of other players.

Yes!! I wish all ToR players would be the bigger men and women and stay in thier own neighborhoods if you will :)  There will be plenty of gw2 players trolling ToR threads to give anyone thier fill of arguing :P

Take LUCASARTS/EAs MONEY and BIOWAREs TALENT and combine them

    and imagine the outcome

The only downside i see in TOR is that its a THEMEPARK(or better still an EVERQUEST/WOW style of game) and a lot of people got bored with them,i dont believe there is another reason not to like this game(unless of course if you are not interested in its style or SW)

I mentioned TRION and RIFT because there is not another good example of a polished MMO(themepark)from day one(i know that it wasnt perfect at the begining but it was miles ahead of other launches)that i know.

the reason i wrote it here is because this is the place haters come to bash so :P

I dont expect TOR to be the 2nd coming in MMO's BUT it will be surelly a very fun and enjoiable game

(to clarify,I like THEMEPARKS and WoW and i play RIFT,i just wish WoW was taking the aproach that RIFT takes and surelly BIOWARE will take...the only thing i dont like in themeparks is PVP because i find it meaningless)

Ofcouse this is all speculation and the game might be bad,but i doudt that.

Listen I agree with you 100%, I think SWToR will be a great themepark MMO in the sense of a WoW or a Rift.  But my qualm is "havnt we been playing this game for 6 years now?"

I wish SWToR all the best, but I odnt intend to play it, as I am sick of the instanes that plagues the themepark MMO's now a days.  Why even create a world if 99% of your game time is going to be spent sitting in a capitol city waiting on a PvP or a dungeon queue, if you think SWToR will be any different then you are dillusional.

I dont even like to use a themepark vs sandbox argument as arguably my favorite MMO of all time (Asherons Call) is a hybrid of both, although I would actually put it in the "old school" themepark category, if there can actually be called such a thing.

I want a game that forgoes instances for open world and rewards exploration with little to no "on rails" game play as possible, hence the reason why my future is in GW2, but it doesnt mean I dont wish Bioware all the best.  With that being said I dont think it will come close to competing with WoW, because there is more similarities then differences and I jsut dont see a majority of gamers giving up 7 years of content to play the 'basically' same game.

Everything you need to know about Elder Scrolls Online

    Playing: GW2
    Waiting on: TESO
    Next Flop: Planetside 2
Best MMO of all time: Asheron's Call - The first company to recreate AC will be the next greatest MMO.

I'm positive TOR will be way more "successful" than Rift. Have you logged into Rift recently? I logged in this weekend, and it was pretty dead despite the free weekend. Tried to queue up for a dungeon or warfront, but after 10 minutes decided watching grass grow would be more productive.

Yea, so TOR will crush Rift. At least, for the first 3 months. I do have huge doubts about its lasting power.

umm trac record speaks for its self eh?

lucas arts is famous for pumping out ass loads of star wars games just to make a quick buck and 80% of them blow

EA is well EA ..they see money grabber they are on bord

bioware just isnt the same bioware anymore thats easy to see

imo this game is nuttin more than another flash in the pan for 2 yrs / year ..ho hum another theampark =)

To each is it's own, I'm tell you this, I have been playing MMO's for 12+ years (played them all) and to me Sandbox MMO's are nothing more then incomplete RPG's, just a world with nothing to do other then a players imagination, picture a table top RPG without a game master and that will be your sandbox MMO, I enjoy a good themepark with a strong story but maybe that's just me.

If SWTOR has less then 3 million Subs after the first year, the first to send me a PM in MMORPG with your address and info I will mail you a $100 money order, you have my word. starting Dec 20, 2011

I actualy like some of what i see in tor, but yet i will only play till tsw comes out since that game story and feel is more dirrection. I enjoyed the soul/archtype system of rift, yet i wished their support classes were more needed and worth using then they became. Honesty i do nto see it being the company that is the issue in the themeparks, but merely the players actually. I mean players complained abotu the length of getting groups for content, and we got the lfg system which then people complained about the difficulty of instances and they nefted them to make it more open to non geared players. The playerbaase is destroying the themepark gene not the compnay, because we always ask/complain abotu thigns, and if you do not fight to keep it out then you are as guilty as those that want it in. YOu can not blame the company for giving it's majority of players what they want, but you can as well as should blame the players for campaining for it out of laziness.

I myself enjoy both instanced and non incstanced content and would love to see mroe of both in games, with pvp actually helping to opena dn give more pve content as a incentive to pve'er to pvp. I also miss the attunement as well as non-skippable progression of older games.I for one liked going thru and progressing thru content, even if it were old content getting geared forr the next bit, compared to this hit max and then skip to latest end game content method we have. The reason is that for those that did not get to the raiding till after a raid was opened you would miss it, and so you would lose out on that content unless your guild of friends went back to it.

Just to add, LOTRO was released polished, Infact it had very good coding and allowed many with lower end computers to play.

HOWEVER  just because a game is polished, does not really say it will not have its negatives :

    LOTRO - Boring

Rift - Is solo chain quest to level 50.  As much as I like this game and still playing, it's solo.  People are quiting as fast as joining because of it.

Warhammer - Yes, this game was polished too, remember the hype ?....Yet it sucked because they forced everyone to do senarieos......No one ever seen that coming, did they ?.....The questing world and RvR areas were dead.

GW1 - Released polished, but it was zoned and the game played on rails.

As deep as SWTOR seems.  So many things to do it has me overwhelmed.  I think it will keep the Star Wars fans entertained no matter what.  I'm afraid that it will end up being solo play no matter what the fan say.  You can link as many web clips, prod cast and interviews you like it will still be solo based.

GW2 will be released polished also. But if you ask me they will charge a  high price, yet my guess is that is will be smaller than you think, and release expansions 2,3,4 within weeks.

So to rap it all up.......You have to take other things into account. Not only polished !

Well, seeing how I unsubbed to Rift 3-4 months ago, and I am probably going to get swtor to play with some friends, I sure hope so...My bottom expectations are about where you are at in the post...I am weary of the companions system, crafting with companions, VO stuff...I will see though, maybe I will be suprised.
