You can hate me all you want, but I besides having rifts appear I find the game a boring grind.
Basically it's filled with "kill this" and "collect this" kinds of quests.
Actually I find the rifts and raids annoying a large part of the time because when you're trying to do quests mobs just appear out of no where.
No matter where you travel rifts and raids are everywhere.
It makes trying to travel really fun.
The huge problem is also there just isn't enough players so when they do have their huge dynamic events where rifts spread across the whole map and you're getting raided by all kinds of mobs it takes forever to stop.
The idea is new and fun and everything, but like I said the only thing it has going for it is the rifts which a lot of times gets in the way of doing your quests or simply trying to travel.
If you're a player who likes to explore in mmo's good luck trying to do that in Rift without getting swambed by 100's of mobs.
The world is literally covered in mobs EVERY WHERE, and 99% of them attack you, which is one of the first mmos where I have seen so many mobs that aggro a player.
Also expect to die, not just a couple of times, but a LOT of times!
One of my biggest problems with this game is the opening fools you into thinking there's going to be more cut scenes.
I enjoyed the beginning story told through cut scenes so I was a bit disapointed when there was nothing like that after the beginning of the game.
I know mmorpgs don't have to have cut scenes to be good, but it helps a lot.
Now, I may be mistaken, but it doesn't seem like Rifts playerbase is that large.
You can't even do the first dungeon because no one wants to do it, giving me the idea that everyone who does play Rift is mainly over level 22 (the first dungeon is level 15-22).
In my opinion I don't think Rift will last in the mmo market as long as some people seem to think it will.
Now this isn't a hate thread.
I enjoyed Rift for a while, but I'm not keeping my subscription going for it.
I usually never get bored of a p2p game this fast, but Rift got me there faster for some reason.
Some good and true points. The population is very healthy and active, but you also have to take into account the time of day you play and the server. With the ability to move servers freely, it shouldn't take you too long for find a better server for yourself. Also most people have hit 50 already, so yes the world sometimes feels dead levelling. The quests are definately boring. Most people will get bored of following the story quite quickly. PvP is what is fun in this game to me, which is unusual since I am generally a quester and enjoy reading lore.
