So I guess this is to answer that age old question of "what do I do when I hit 50?". It was a good simple video.

awesome video! man, if the game actually looked like that i never would have canceled my acct!  My personal rift experience was alot more like "tank or dps iso daily raid" (long silence)"tank or dps iso daily raid" (long silence)"tank or dps iso daily raid" (long silence)"tank or dps iso daily raid" (long silence)"tank or dps iso daily raid" (long silence)"tank or dps iso daily raid" (long silence)"tank or dps iso daily raid" (long silence)"tank or dps iso daily raid" (long silence)"tank or dps iso daily raid" (long silence)"tank or dps iso daily raid" (long silence)

    "stop spamming nub"

"kk, sry, not many people on tonight"

"their is no daily raid stupid"

    "sry, daily raid RIFT"

(check the battleground que for daily bonus...37minutes until i can get owned by a wall of cleric rerolls)

    OK. GOOD.  THXVRYMUCH.

Maybe they should add some content, that video only seemed to have about 20 different things you can do.

I like how Trion spends more time making trailers and press releases and stupid events to hype up their dying game rather than actually making meaningful, long lasting content for it.

You should read the Rift sub forums. In between bans I post content updates there. Next updates has a lot to say the least.

It has nearly half the servers it had at launch.

At prime time only a couple of those servers reach high population status.

Dying might be extreme (or it might not), but its certainly not building momentum.

Lotro was doing better 7 months after launch because it was still trending upward.

its probably because they already started microtransactions(CE upgrades), i loved my 6 months in RIFt and will go back patch 1.6. I meant to quote Warbs ><.

Haha I like your usage of sarcasm here.   I agree that it was a nice, simple, visually satisfying trailer    but, no, they didn't show "about 20 different things to do"  .. they showed the features of their game.     rifts.  quests.  dungeons. raids.  pvp / battlegrounds.  gathering(mining).     Nothing special really, just a bunch of different enviornments for combat if you think about it.

I guess that's what these so called NextGEN MMos are about... just fight.  fight fight fight.   Stop exploring the world and fight.  Stop being adventurous and fight.   Stop worrying about customizing your character/housing and fight.   Stop Roleplaying and fight.

    Pretty vid tho...

Shows nothing new to most MMOs now. On top of that, their world events are the worst world events i ve ever seen. Same thing everytime, could have been a great game , in the end I can t beleive I m saying this WOW is better.

Nice vid, RIFT has some great qualities and great promo events, still got bored of the game within 2 weeks, sadly. :(

  • ElricmerrenElricmerren Member Posts: 295

THe events could be done better, but that can be said of how many games out there. Raids were fun and yet pretty restrictive mostly by guilds that were min/max based. I loved the soul/archetype system for hwo good it could have been, as well as how fun it was to use and look over making my speccs, and i hope it stays in the genre for awhile to come in some form or another. Though one thigns i miss is my single blade wielding swordsmen, all in all with all the two-handers and dual-wielding that is now common place i miss walking around as a fencer-type characeter. If they made a talent or ability that would help fix the imbalance in both stats as well as dps output between having one weapon or two it would be a fun style. I always thought it should be based around you being more accurate using this edge to create increased effective output with your strikesIe as your hit rating or chaance increases yoru attacks gain a buff or effect from it), as well as a talent that would increase the stats and dps of a weapon you have equiped while not dual-weilding or using a two-hander.

the count of servers decreased was not a bad thing. they increased the amount of players a server could hold, and gave us all free transfers. it was a great way to let the players merge the servers themselves imo. i was on a high pop server, then it went to medium after the increase. there are still a crap ton of players on every day while i'm awake. trion stated they are happy with the amount of players they have at this point, and everything else is just a bonus. imo i think they just want enough paying players to keep the lights on and to continue pushing out new content the way they have been. a major content patch every month and a half is impressive. a quote from trion: "Our philosphy at trion is that we have to constantly release new content, customers are paying us money, we have to give them things to do"

the game has added a lot of content. rifts are worth doing again. the AA system is fairly decent so far. trion actually gives a crap about its player base and listens. I didn't plan on playing rift as much as i do, but am very impressed with the way the game has turned out so far. a few bugs in game still, but they do fix it when the bugs are brought up. a few class bugs need fine tuned, but nothing major at this point. all the major issues are fixed with almost instant hotfixes. the issues with HK boss bugs was a little frusterating, but i'm not too mad about that. at least players didn't have the content cleared before it went live.

a big complaint i have is the class balancing in PvE. i play a mage and feel that i'm OP in AoE DPS, but lack a bit in ST-DPS. rogues and warriors are amazing in ST, cleric AoE is beast, but ST is very poor atm. class balancing in PvP is always going to be an issue imo as there are way to many class combos available. there are always going to be fotm. the way they're splitting abilities for PvE and PvP is a step in the right direction though.

i do like the fact that there are a lot of options i have available, as far as classes i can run, in a raid setting (as mage). there are a few cookie cutter builds for dps, 2 strong healing builds, a few variations of the 51 archon (support), but being able to swap souls around for specific bosses is nice. i do wish i had more role spots then 5, even if i can change them when i want. a few of the hammerknell bosses can use /dom.

there are 4 pvp roles that i run myself that i feel are very strong. there are a few other roles that fill a gap when running premades, and a couple others that work well for open world pvp. overall i feel the use of the soul system is the greatest part of the game, but about everything else they have added in should get props as well.

the game can be considered a "clone" of a lot of other games out there, but what they did was pretty smart. they took the best parts of some major titles, then bundled them up and polished them. the graphics are nice, the gameplay is clean, and the content is pretty good. leveling wasn't much of a grind which may or may not be a good thing. i burned through the quests, and didn't read the wall of text quests, but they did state they didn't want people spending too much time on leveling, and the game was based around level cap. so in that regard, i guess it's intended.

i got my ass blown up in iraq a few years ago, and can't do a damn thing anymore but dick around the house. i play almost every game that comes out, F2P or P2P, and have moved on from a lot of games in my mmorpg history. with Rift, i'm pretty sure that Trion will be getting sub money from me for a long time.

Truth be told , I have been playing Rift for about 4 months now , and am aboutto do a 1 year sub. This game has more to do at end game than just about every single game out there. The Graphics are beautiful ( If  you can run it on high to ultra).I have played about everygame out there. And this one is doing it absolutely right for a themepark.Really nothing else to say.

The ones who bash it are the ones who are close minded and only try 1 or 2 aspects of the game. There insight to the game is and can not be takin legitimatly. Rift is the real deal.I play every night and guarentee I can spend 4-5 hours a night , every night of the week , and still not do the same thing twice. Most MMO game4rs these days are just extremely close minded . for those there will never be satisfaction in any game they play.

Probably all the deals they've been running since launch I'd guess. Seems to have an air of desperation or at least urgency attached to every one of them.

The video is very good; it's a shame people can't play the game and it looks that fun. Just the music alone isn't the same which is probably what gets most people amped about the video period (gotta love exciting music that's not even in the game while yo play!). I'll say that for AION, they had a great soundtrack that made the play fun because you could listen to actual music from the videos you watched.

Take the music out they are playing in this video and then go play the game. It's not nearly as fun :(

I have been playing just as long, maybe longer since i was in since beta, but yes they have alot of thigns in the game to do. Weither you can call it all endgame is a debatable arguement, since artifact hunting can be done from start without hitting max (though you need to hit maax to compllete the achievements for them. Exploring though that is in all games no matter what if they are a mmo, the only nice thigns is the puzzles and hidden things in the game. Then you have crafting well most games have that as well which is also done alittle better in ways, but not in others. PVp which is a joke since you havve mass dr issues with stuns/snares/cc/roots, then you have it largely being a fotm settng for the most part. Raiding is well raiding with all it is good thigns and bad, there is a bit of innovation to the system with the support role set. rifts are well open instances/raids with levels to them, the invasions are interesting but also they are well groups of npc attackers that spawn from rifts which is different yet felt half done. YOu have pvp rifts which is well a bad way to try and create open world pvp since it consolodates it into an area (like a instanced bg almost with the objective and close quarters where it is not all over a zone but is confined to a area about the rift and objective). Rift is well done and polised but it has a long way to be the real deal, it has alot of issues both genertic souls, as well as some of it's combat. Rift is about a set above or two of wow in areas, yet also below it as well in things like story/lore, class depth (classes have verity but their depth is rather shallow really both in lre  as well as concept.). I run Rift on full setting maxed and yes it is beautiful but yet so are many games that are coming out, i would prefer they had made the soul system fleshed out more and with more options as well as depth to it. Thier instances are much like woww and other games with small changees in encounters, but with zero cc need to complete them largely. I could say you are looking at this thru rose colored glasses, and i could be nitpicking, but for a game to be the "real deal" It should stand up to nitpicking. I love rift but tsw is much more my style with better story, immersion, and syergy in what it looks likee so far.

They should have fixed their broken patcher instead of putting this vs together.

I got seven months down on my account. I thoroughly enjoy this game. Regardless of whether or not it's a so called "bad" game. Truth be told, I used to hate this game. I found a lot of things stupid and just really bugged. But when I played the Trial version of RIFT after it came out for a month or so. I really enjoyed it. I found my favourite class to play and I am really enjoying my time on RIFT. I think people should actually do the trial and see if they can get into it. If they don't, they don't. So be it. People are different. But people just need to stop overflowing the forums with bs about how this game is so terrible and just go and play their so called "favourite" game.

Very few call it terrible.  Most people seem to really like Trion even if they dont like Rift and perhaps want Trion to realize, and learn from, their glaring mistakes.

What people are tired of seeing is fluff article after fluff article on this site, with no acknowledgement of the game (and Trion's) issues, for a game that *is* trending downward in subs since its launch.  And Rift is being pushed down peoples throats.  When you get inundated with article after article and celebrate things like 7 month anniverseries it gets a bit old.

Its like NFL fans with Rex Ryan and the Jets.  He is blabbing all the time about how they are super bowl contenders and people are sick of hearing it, especially whne the product on the field does not live up to the all the hype.

So, they just celebrated their 6 month "birthday" and now they celebrate again their 7th month?

Guess Trion knows very well that every single month this game survives from going F2P is a reason to celebrate.

BTW: Like all of your topics, this "news" is again duplicate and has been posted already by a user http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/329736/New-RIFT-features-video.html . Again threads weren't merged as should be.
