If you already didnt hear Blizzard announced a 1 Year Subscription that allows players that sub for a year to get Diablo III and some other goodies, my thoughts are in the video, so let me leave you with a question.
Do you think this is the start of a trend? MMOs to make you pretty much sign a agreement to continue your subscription for x amount of months? As always leave your comments down in the comment section below!
Dont forget to subscribe for more Blizz Con 2011!

I belive this could be the start of a new trend for the gaming industry, since this idea is already been applied to a variety of different servies and the rewards you recieve I find to be simply awesome!
Hi Zach,
Could you tell me why i should spend $180 in subfees for a $60~ game and "goodies"?
TSW - AoC - Aion - WOW - EVE - Fallen Earth - Co - Rift - || XNA C# Java Development
I don't think so, some companies have been talking about getting rid of subs for the new way in future mmos, bioware mentioned that not to long ago. Those cash shops really seem to bring in some extra profit so we'll see.
I really like the GW model. GW1 just isn't my cup of tea but the free to play is nice and their cash shop doesn't hinder gameplay or or make a character stronger then another.
Considering the 6 month plan x 2 is 150$, and you get a 60$ game, a 40$ saftey net with the xpac beta, and a 20$ mount aka they charged that much for a mount before, paying 30$ for a year isnt bad. Like I said the goodies almost out wieght the cost.
Yeah I heard that as well, but Id hate to see the subscription MMO die.

Yes, but you wouldnt get another copy of D3, but if you get the D3 CE then you get more months on top of that annual sub for free.
What he said.
I think Blizzard have offered the diablo 3 insentive and annual subscription because of concerns about the coming competition from StarWars TOR which is going to be unlike anything they experianced to date . Should someone take this offer up they've got them for another year . In the face of the incredibly weak concept of the Panda Land Xpac theres a lot of need to worry and try and hold onto subs in anyway possible . For those that still for some reason or other enjoy WoW still and know they will still be playing in a year its a good deal . But before you buy it and your not sure I would strongly suggest you try StarWars TOR first before potentially wasting your money . Because I have a feeling once you play it you'll never set foot in Azeroth again .
Bleh, it's just like the 2+1 free sales promotions. You actually end up paying for two items while normally you would have only bought one.
Same goes here, the reason why they do this is to make sure they at least get 180$ from you. Most likely because they're realizing more and more are quitting (not saying it's dying) and want to make sure they can get at least 180$ out of many.
So while for the player who's 100% sure he will keep on playing and enjoy the goodies ends up paying 180$ for something worth more most who will pay 180$ won't get their money's worth because they won't last 12 months.
the longer the subs the better for them and the worse for you.

12 month subscriptions have been around for as long as i can remember for most games, this isn't anything new or sinister. Not to mention that forcing 12 month contracts for MMO's would be financial suicide, they're just not that stupid.

Its a commitment that states that if you dont pay for x amount of months, you dont get x amount of rewards.
I'll get flamed for this by all the subscription fan boys, buuuuuutttttt...
i'd love to see them die, for the fact that i have to pay monthly for a game pisses me off. I can go to the store buy a new 360 games and play it online with other people and not pay a dime pass the box cost, why should I have to pay monthly for an MMO?
the arguements to back up subscription are so over played. Polish - if ever mmo went free to play then polish WOULD be there to seperate who has the better game JUST LIKE NOW. Secondly Servers - to say i need to pay monthly to pay for servers that are mad dirt cheap now a days is B.S. what is this '95? Am I using AOL? 3rdly the arguement of content - again, if ever mmo was free to play then the good games are again seperated by who has the best content or delivery of content.
ALMOST EVER GENRE OF GAME IS B2P, why aren't MMORPGS?
p.s. i'm not a GW2 fan, i'm wasnt that into GW and i'm not looking forward to GW2. I'm just an person who doesn't get the sub fees anymore.
I just dont like the fact that most F2P games use the item mall to make profits, imo if every MMORPG was a B2P game with F2P accounts that have a adventure pack item mall that would be awesome, but probably will never happen.

Reminds me of a cell phone plan that bundles a bonus in with subscription. I see it as a win-win for Blizzard. Promotional tool plus extended contract term compared to monthly renewal.
i have no interest in blizzard as a gaming company anymore, their games are just way behind the times these days. They just make updated graphical versions of their old IP's with zero innovation and therefore stagnate the industry as a whole.
I feel this move is a way to help conteract the likelyhood of lost subscriptions from their own game. Having the game 'come' with a year subscription means when D3 comes out, people will still have 'paid' for game time even if they are not actually playing it right then and there. Its a great move by blizzard by far to keep them gaining money for wow, allowing them to 'brag' about more active subscriptions and earning money for a game they would likely lose a good number of subscriptions for (even if just temporary) for their own game.
I completely agree with the above statement, but in no way think we are going to see subscription "contracts", it's just brilliant marketing.
I actually like this version of the yearly subscription rather than the lump sum payment method. It kinda softens the blow to the wallet and rewards your commitment at the same time. Perfect for those who are choosing to play WoW and Diablo III anyway. I wish Bioware would come out with a plan like this, because if it turns out that I enjoy TOR I will definitely play for at least a year. Nice move Blizzard.

this deal they have can be really good in the long run if you think about it. If you know your going to keep playing wow and dont plan to stop then by all means this is for you might as well get another great free game out of the deal
How is this different from any other multi-month plan other than you also get something free for the 12-month plan?
I'm almost jealous of those of you that have so few experiences with real contracts and commitments that something as simple as a free software giveaway in an optional multi-month plan for entertainment services is such cause for alarm.

I like it, too. There's a couple MMO where I would have gone with the 12-month plan if the payments were more spread out.

Question, i didn't see it on the FAQ.
Do you only get the rewards AFTER you pay the full 12 months?
Also, can there be a lul between payments? IE, if i quit for 2 months, then pick it back up again..I'm still meeting the requirement technically, just not in a row.
Also, i for one ONLY want the mount, i wish they was another way to get it..

WoW, DCU online, star wars: the old republic, city of heroes, city of villains, everquest, plenty more I'm probably forgetting or aren't worth noting.
I don't see what the problem is. They are also throwing you a free Diablo 3 with it. Well the only thing I would say is that players better make sure they will be playing WoW for the next 12 months or it becomes a waste of your money.
