Exactly. Not to mention the HUGE Asian market.   WoW could lose everyone in the NA and European markets and still have millions and millions of subs.  Not to mention that the Asians are used to cash shops, and the SWEET profits to be had from cash shop games.  At this point I have six 85's. I'm going to wait and see how this works out in practice, before I make any rush to judgement.

My understanding is that under Chinese law, you cannot even depict violence against a panda.... not sure how well that's going to work in their Asian market.

Well, as I stated, all it takes is the right partner with the right connections. When the right palms are sufficiently greased, the "law" is what ever the officials say that it is. We will have to see how this works out in practice.

Personally as far as that goes I think its almost racist.

Pandas are a Chinese thing.  Right?  So lets create a race called "Pandarins" and then what we'll do is set them up in a Chinese culture and create a new "monk" class!  Yeeeeea......thats good stuff!

Its kind of....weird really.  They could have had Pandas in medeival castles, or in even persian type structures or an Indian culture but no, they gave them a Chinese culture.  Pandas....and Chinese!  Its PERFECT!

Seems kind of steriotypical or something.

Well, Panda's exist (in the wild, of course) ONLY in china... the chinese people apparantly revere them greatly... I don't see anything racist about it.

I don't mind the addition of the new race or class since I said last year that adding a monk type class would be great (I always liked playing those in MMO"S from SWG to EQ2). I just didn't like how both Horde and Alliance can be Panda's its always be two new races call me greedy, but I was very disappointed in both Alliance races that they added, this is just me however.

Agreed, I think they missed a big opportunity here for bringing a 3rd faction into the mix.  I've always said that the only thing that could bring me back to WoW would be a Monk class... we'll see.

    1. WC3 had Pandas before the movie.

    2. People like Pandas, and it will help to attract, or keep people playing WoW. Which means it's a good decision and the timing just means people are in the mood of living out that fantasy since the movies came out. Or releasing a more typical race would have been thier choice that would fit with thier already available list, and be more of a mainstream race as well.

    3. Its racist if it involves redicule, and it is towards humans/culture. It is not making fun of them, and also it is probably going to give praise.

    4. Brutuality against Panada's is something for them to consider, but if they think a talking kung fu panda is the same as the Panda that they want to protect, and having an online game with a hero that can also dish out dmg is conisdered violence towards Panda's then that is thier decision. I can see the difference, and maybe they think this depiction is a challenge to thier law, not sure, but it is also giving them Panda's praise as I said. I think a good way to guess if the Panda is in issue to know if the Kung fu panda movie is a banned movie from China. If not, then it should not be a problem.

    Yeah!

It's not like pandas are only located in China and nowhere else in the world naturally. They are all over Europe so they could have had put pandas in medieval castles, or even in Persian structures or in Indian culture like the pictures in history books.

    Oh wait...

You're wrong.  I know the game lore and I'm not returning with this expansion, and I know people that are LEAVING because of the DIRECTION  WoW seems to be heading with what seems a bit more juvenile turn.  Yeah.  They know the lore too.  They played the Warcraft games, Frozen Throne, Diablo and D2 LOD online WITH me.  So knowing the lore has jack shit to do with WHY people will leave.

If it was as simple as someone just saying, "Hey....look....they made an appearance in another Blizzard game and it's one of the Warcraft games, so....like it's cool with the lore and all"......then people wouldn't be so twisted up about it.  I think with most people who find it appalling it has NOTHING to do with lore.  Some of us just find it a bit too far over into kiddie shit suddenly.  Most of the other races you could rationalize a seriousness to them.  Pretty hard to do that with pandas.  PLUS there's all the other shit in this expansion......talent points?  Pokemon style pet battles????   I mean REALLY.......it's just NOT for everyone.

You might want to check your sources on that. Once they switched partners, things started working much more smoothly after the proper officials got theirs. Its the same with every government.

Any child old enough to be decent in a game like WoW, being as casual as some may call it, will probably be around the age of 10 more or less.  Ten year olds will think Kung Fu Pandas are lame.  Give kids some credit.  Even my 8 year old son would laugh at this.

Well he does like Panda Express.  I like it too.  Its good and tasty.  I told him he was eating Panda meat though once and he said Panda is darn tasty.   And I agree.  It is.  It really is.

They all ready have skeksis in WoW. Bald eagle people really isn't much of a stretch.

I'm happy that I wasn't the only one that knew about this. Other then Rexxar the Pandaren Brewmaster was the best thing about WC3.

The only problem I have about this xpac is it is way to late, I quit before wotlk xpac and have no plans of going back to WoW.

This is exactly how I feel.  I left WoW shortly after WotLK and don't really see myself going back.  I wish this had come sooner because I like the lore addition and a true monk class is my favorite of all classes in the fantasy rpg universe.

If it is indeed true that WoW is doing all of this for the chinese market (which I doubt is true) then shouldn't they respect what China has to say about anything and everything? Also, I thought WoW is all about humor. Somethings that we consider funny doesn't play well in other countries and we have to respect that. That is if you so called WoW loyalists respect the people you are trying to gain in playing your game. Do not contradict yourselves!  lol
