After the last couple of years of repeated disappointments not only am I not interested in launch, I won't even jump in later until they offer a free trial. So far what I've read since the nda dropped I see no reason to change that for this game. Thats not to say I'm a hater, I really really hope this game is all that and a bag of chips too, as they say, but I won't waste any money til I know for sure.
Yeah its probably sensible to wait for a trial but if it really is all good news coming out from players then I'll buckle within the first month or when I see it at a reduced price though.

I think the gameplay is a mediocre mix of CoH and WoW, the game assets are in some regards poorly implemented (did they really need different cinematic and normal game textures? >_>), playing through quests feels competitive with other players in open world areas a lot of the time (though it can be fun in groups), and graphics are kinda nice.
I preordered the CE. Expect to play it largely for social reasons.
"The knowledge of the theory of logic has no tendency whatever to make men good reasoners." - Thomas B. Macaulay
"The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge." - Daniel J. Boorstin
Call me old fashioned, but I preordered, not to be there for the mayhem at the start but because I believe in Bioware and what they're doing and going to do with this game. I want to support them so I'll be there from the start, even if it sucks for a while.
I would do the same if CD Projekt Red were launching an MMO - I love those guys too!
You are either at day 1 at launch , or you are nowhere - that is MMO
Not that I will be at day 1 for SWTOR.
But if i was at least excited about it. Than day 1 or nothing
Don't take this the wrong way but was this said with tongue firmly in cheek?

I agree. What some people consider the thrill of being there at the start, I consider a morass of shite.
Unfortunately most of the "Day 1 players" will complain about what a horrible launch SWtOR had or call it the glory days 2 years from now.
Well, some might.
I actually think it's all very fun. Warts and all. There's an engergy in the air. Sort of like going to an extremely anticipated movie on opening night.
Some people like to avoid that scene but I, like others, enjoy the festive energy.
To each his/her own I suppose.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
I've been in a a few MMO launches the past 3/4 years and they have all been mayhem with queues out the wazoo, lag, no mobs to kill because there are 2000 ppl in the starter area, lag, general chat constantly being spammed of people comparing everything to WoW, lag, servers crashing, lag, seeing loads of Lienhearts, Cloudz, xXLegolasXx, Gandelf, Luuke SkieWalka, Choowie etc.. as if they are super cool and original, lag, 1500 of the 2000 people bunnyhopping everywhere, chat full of "where is Ujamaflip with the thingyamijiggy that I have to give to whatsamacallit". And this MMO will have that multiplied by 1000 so I've made the gracious decision, no need to thank me, to not pre-order or buy at launch and just sit back and observe the drama and mayhem unfold on here and the official forums its going to be very interesting. Yes I know but I'm not going to be able to say in 2 years "well DUH! I've been in since headstart and its always been like that" So have fun guys Oh! and lots of patience your going to need it.
Is one of the reason why I haven't pre ordered yet.
Well.. for me, I have 6 days vacation left to burn before the beginning of the year so I'll be taking them as soon as I know when all of the people who pre-ordered will be able to log into the live servers. I will most likely burn through 2 days straight to get out of the areas where most everyone else is and then take my time after that.
i am impatient, i cannot wait 6 months for the usual mmo to fix their bugs, and i can live with them (strartup problems, eg lag, queues, buggy quests and stuff).
might be a leftover from DAoC, a game which i actually only played in beta, did not "start it up" personally, and came to my mates later on, they have been at max lvl, had a few master lvls, equip, knew what they did and me.... i was the nub :P
the nub problem was rather quick fixed (i am not very dumb...) but i never really could catch up with that lvl difference.
so maybe i fear that might happen again :P since i don't like leveling alone i rather do it with my mates when the game starts.

I always like getting in at launch. Like you said, there's is an excitement thats their, and you miss out on it if you come a few weeks later.
Alot of people do complain, but it's so much fun starting on a completely fresh game world and knowing that your on the same level as everyone else, and have the ability to mold the server into what it will become (or at least be apart of that.) Opposed to coming later, and all the big guilds already formed, all the personailities already known, ect...
It's a lot more exciting in sandbox games from my experience(since you can get ahead of the game and doing something first has more value), but even in themepark games it's just a blast...that's usually why i quit(well not the reason, but a contributing factor). because a month later, that excitement dies down and so does my enthusiasm towards the game.
You are either at day 1 at launch , or you are nowhere - that is MMO
Not that I will be at day 1 for SWTOR.
But if i was at least excited about it. Than day 1 or nothing
But what do you do if you get sick or your internet is down? Cancel your sub?
And what if you start day one on Friday but the servers have a major cock up and have to be rolled back on the next Thursday? Do you count Friday or Thursday as day one? If you count Thursday then do those that started thursday get to say they started day one?

Really? Why? It's not like TOR is a sandbox so you have to rush to stake your claim or something. Game won't go anywhere no matter when you join and given how MMOs are designed these days you can catch up to everyone else in a week or two.
Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.
I won't play it on day 1 as I will be too busy with other things at that time - Christmas holidays and right after that I have to do lots of reading for my exams After the exam period is over maybe I will try it.
Mission in life: Vanquish all MMORPG.com trolls - especially TESO, WOW and GW2 trolls.

I played the beta and the starting area did have a few hits in the FPS, but only the first handful of quests I was getting around 30 to 40 FPS, with at least 40 to 60 other toons playing as well. When I moved away from that congested beginning area, I never dropped under 70 FPS when I was still on the same planet, and to be honest my average FPS was always in the 100's. Probably one of the best 3 day beta test runs I've ever played.
WOW lag is and has always been horrible, I don't care what system build you have or your internet connection, or your running an SSD with the game intalled. The game has always had bad lag, it's actually probably the worst, I've ever experience in any MMO I've ever played and I've played too many. =-P
Wildstar (2013) & Elder Scroll Online (2013)
Playing: Diablo 3, WOW, Far Cry 3 & X-Com.
Enjoyed: WOW 5 1/2 yrs, LOTRO 3yrs, GW 1/2yr, DFO 1yr, EVE Online 3yrs, and Huxley (Beta).
Failed to impress: GW2 3months, Tera Online 6 months (best combat system in any MMO I've played) STO 1/4yr, Aion 1/2yr, AoC 1yr, CO, Fallen Earth, DDO, EQ2 1/2yr, WAR 1/2yr, Lineage 2 and FF XI 1/2yr, FF XIV.
I pre-ordered as its literally the one thing I want for X-mass, but will download for head-start as I won’t have a PC during X-mass itself, (having a Kinect themed family get together, don’t ask).
I really hope it’s not that buggy or laggy, I had a really great time during Rift Headstart.
Besides I’ve somehow been waiting for this bloody game for 37 billion years, which is 3 times the age of the universe, I won’t be able to stay sane knowing it’s out and I am not playing Lone-star my smuggler, or Dark Helmet my Sith Warrior, (gotta be the first to get those names).
I agree with the OP! Having played many MMOs at launch, I am now officially burned out on launch-week asininity. Rift was the final nail in the coffin. Oh how I wanted to reach through the monitor and strangle so many people who did nothing but compare Rift to WoW over and over and over and OVER! It nearly drove me mad, as this happens in EVERY G*DAMN MMO !
Whew, had to vent. I feel better now. I just can't take it anymore. I'm not doing the launch day thing in the future. I figure I will give all new games one to two months, to avoid the endless WoW comparisons, lag, server crashes, hot patches, etc. I may even give as much as 3 months wait, because I feel that 3 months is sort of the magical amount of time that it takes for most players to realize that the new game is the same as the old game and start posting those sentiments in all the gamer forums. And then this way I can just save my money altogether if that is the case.
I'm going to play the game, but I'm not going to get attached. If it's great woohoo... if not I'll go snowboarding.
As for people comparing things to WoW...just turn off general chat.
I hear you but...boy do I miss the days when you didn't have to turn off general chat. Yes, those days actually existed. Where general chat was where you went for help, to discuss strategies, ask questions, find a guild, or generally shoot the breeze. Now general chat is so mind-numbingly obnoxious that we have to turn it off in order to enjoy a game. This is a huge factor in my growing dissatisfaction with today's MMOs. These companies make so much profit and yet they won't invest any back into the community (in the form of moderation).
I'm in the beta and can't say much due to the NDA. But what I'm about to say, I'd say regarding ANY game.
Don't buy it til' you can try it.
I tell you that based on absolutely 0% of my opinion of the game or my experiences in beta. It's just good old common sense. If you're not irresistably compelled to play at launch, then you should consider waiting for a trial. The only way you'll know for sure is to try it, yourself.
It might be me. I've pre-ordered the CE, but I'm thinking of just sitting out the first two weeks while the servers are being stressed. Of course if I do and the servers are smooth, I'll have regretted that decision.
In any case, I'm ready to jump in, just not sure if I'll do so right away.
I want a mmorpg where people have gone through misery, have gone through school stuff and actually have had sex even. -sagil

Guess that depends on your patience. And budget.
I love opening days. With all of the hassles and server crashes and Game Wrecker Bugs you occaisionally meet, the atmosphere is unlike any other time in the game's life.
Oh, you have to turn off "General" (or whatever the common chatter channel is) for your own sanity, or the complaining and stupid questions will eventually exhaust even a saint. But that's just common sense in any MMO.
Don't cling to the wallet so tightly. Life is too short.
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
I'd rather wait a week or so before playing. I plan to be deep into Skyrim at that time unless it sucks. I missed on a lot of games because of devoting all my gaming time to mmos, so I'm catching up on some older titles via Steam and their price breaks. Just finished Two Worlds Two and picked up the expansion. Then it's on to Skyrim and Mass Effect or Fallout Las Vegas looks cool.
Just not that excited to be in on launch. Maybe its because of the long lead up to release.
