There's a middle ground between realistic and Victoria's Secret armor collection, you know. You can have armors that appear to cover all of the vulnerable areas and still have it be flashy. It just irks me that the more "awesome" the armor is, the more it looks like your char would be better off in her skivvies. I mean, if you want revealing clothing there is the whole of the internet.
Some of you got a screw loose. I go to the pool all the time where minors in swimsuits can be found and that is socialy exceptable. Swimsuits for kids are very miled as far as how they look. All of Elin armor has been released on the internet and only a handful of them look like a swimsuit bottem. And the ones that do are very very miled and fitting.
I don't know why some of you are so insecure and bring up thongs and BS when you already know or are not educated enough to know none of the Elin armor comes close to what you are discribling. There is nothing pornographic about it or we have a bigger moral problem with kids wearing swimsuits at the pool.
Secondly, ALL armor is reskinable so you wear what you want to wear. There are options for everyone.
Lastly, it is a fantasy game. If I had a dream where a 14yr from the local pool picked up this awesome axe and started killing crazy monsters and I thought it was cool thats fine. Its not real, and it was never intended to be. Sometimes developers have to make things interesting and hope that people can be mature enough to handle it. After all its a mature rated game so please be mature about it.
So this whole thread is about how upset some people are that they are making the game less "sexual"
I don't play MMO's to get turned on...
I'm ok with them toning down the sexuality on the characters, it shouldn't effect game play right?

No one really cares about the adult females. It's the Elin race. It's too childish.
Firstly, you can't even play a boy elin. It's a female only race. (To compensate, Blackhole Studios created a furry male only race which is also just as small.)
The Elins are basically fairies with tails. They would be adults if they could age. So obviously elins stay young or something since there are no adult ones. Alright, cool, the Western Audiences can understand this.
The real problem with the Western Audience is the elin's animations and armor. They like to shake their hips and stuff. It's sexually explicit. If they were just dancing using the peanut butter jelly dance while wearing covered up armors, for example, not many people would think anything of it.
I think Bluehole Studios just went 100% towards having more sex explicit content and didn't think to balance it out. However, we'll all see when they release the game.
It's true, but makes me wonder if it's impossible to mix the themes of "sexy" and "pygmy" without a westerner immediately tying it to child abuse. People immediately start questioning their values before considering that the tiny people are just midgets. I'm damned sure that would make for a good SNL skit. Guy looks out for little girl getting hit on > little girl is just a midget > guy is an asshole now. Thank you, Fox News.
Anyway, there is a *line*, and I saw it in Aika. I played all race/class when I first tried it, and the child-ish clerics had visible nipples under a see through brazier when you removed their top. I immediately went "oh shit.... will not fly". I stopped playing for other reasons, but later on hopped back in for the sole purpose of seeing if they changed it after someone made a tirade against it. Yep, changed - no sign of a tirade though. The latter part is what I wanted to see, it was the one situation where I totally saw people getting offended ahead of time.

Well not immediately - Only when they start doing something sexy like showing some sexy skin or doing something sexy like shaking their hips and sliding their hands down their chest type of things lol. The hard part is for developers to walk that fine line and try to get away with stuff. In order to do that you have to make things more subtle and not so completely obvious. Doing so has proven to make things better in the past anyways, like the Animaniacs show. Game Development has it really easy anyways compared to TV. Television Screenings are a lot rougher.
Again, is that what made the correlation for most that they were in fact "children" and not "pygmies"?
Something very wrong here, because the clerics in Aika - based on voices, animations and their "barely bloomed" models themselves - were meant to resemble kids... and therefore the nips were a no-no. I seen vids of this Elin things from a while back... but I may be mixing it up with the fairy things from Blade and Soul. They are like very-stacked midgets, and sexy = ok. I have yet to hear this conversation over the FFXI/XIV midget races, but I have yet to see them over-sexualized in theme yet (most likely impossible when standing next to a cat-girl).
In fact, I am damned sure I am mixing the two up. Gonna look at what passes for the current Elins through google.
*edit* and yerp, I mixed the two up. Elin are deffo for pedo, I would try and dance around "classier" themes for them if I was the devs too. Westerners immediately tie in a historical worry about their own daughters being abused by some dirty foreigner, while Easterners would set up a good joke on that basis. Culture clash based on morality, but will not fly here, nonetheless.

Even if people realized that a race of people were 100+ years old but their bodies look like children, people are still grossed out anytime something implies sex. Most people are grossed out when the topic is brought up that their parents had sex. Even though their very own existence implies that their parents had to of lol.
Come on she has crotch armor, and everyone knows all attacks in korean mmos are crotch attacks!
Don't quote me out of context, not a few lines later I mentioned I may have mixed up the race from Blade and Soul with these... and did.

GTwander why arn't you playing this game? You should you know, its a hella lot of fun and will give you a better insight about what this game is all about.

I don't feel offended or anything, even if it look paedofillish, but i just feel silly.
It's enough when you can see nice femalish body shapes on some sexier races, like elves and such. But to try and attract players to play by making most female models look like porn stars, i don't know.
I want to feel in a fantasy world, not in a world of some teenagers who gasp at every sight of a female flesh. Come on, there's so many porn on the internet, if you don't have a girlfriend... Don't we have enough of it in the movies, magazines, advertisings, ALL aspects of where someone wants to sell something. A half naked women by a car for sale, on a video card, on an action movie poster, everywhere. We will have naked chicks on money notes and coins soon. The queen of england might be naked on a pound coin soon.
So for me, all this naked sexiness brakes the immersion. I don't feel in a world of some mythical creatures. I feel in the world where i see dev creations with big signs "Sex sells" and "We made these models for dumb males"
I'd rather see ugly bearded dwarven females than the girls with a strings. They look more real in a fantasy rpg, yeah
Well to be totally honest (i'm sure you won't believe me) tera is one of the most immersive games on the market. Are the females sexy? yeah they are but that takes nothing away from immersion. HighElf & Castanic females are hot as hell but HE's are still snobish by the way they act and carry themselves and if you see how & where the castanics live (their city and lore) you would understand why they dress and act the way they do. Most of the time cosmetics have nothing to do with immersion but in this case....yeah it fits.

I think most people that have this aversion to "sexy" see it as "sexy" being pushed down their throats.

Some people have serious libido issues and are all about it, some people are somewhere in the middle, and others feel targeted - and therefore personally offended. I worry the most about the latter folk, because they like to be the ones to set the standards, and the morality police kill art. Yes, sexy is art, and it's offensive art to some. People are literally angry about the artistic portrayal of minors, period. Understandable... to a point.
~but yes, I'm still for the morality police's arguments, but based on 'business ethics' (of which there are none, besides that of making money and shutting people up).

I could understand if some certain race would look really sexy, coming from some special environment or something. Where everyone looks sexy and wears little cloths. So be it.
It's just that there is a trend to make every possible female in a game with overtop sexiness - very slim waist, very big boobs, all the shapes are overdone, you know. And not just one race.
By the way, i believe huge huge weapons doesn't add a lot to the immersion either...
But i hope Tera will do well - at least it's something different from all those tab targeting quest grinders.
Id say terra got is art from Manga/manuha (mis spelled but) .
And the same whit the Loli chars, ITs Normal in Korea/japan, and if you read upp on ther Manga/manuha, you will see a lot of Lolis. Her is a thing, Id admit i find some loli chars Sexy. I do:D but Kids,, NOP...

I'm going to spread some truth on this thread.
This has all been said by the western team many MANY times.
There are ZERO screenshots of the new outfits for the western market. No one knows what they will looks like. All the "new screenshots" you see are from the korean version of the game.
Having said that, it is clear they are aiming for a teen rating. IMO this is stupid. People are hyped from what they hear and see from korea. Killing that is just dumb. Not only that but killing it while taking more time to release (i'm sure this has something to do with it) is just killing hype level of this game.
The western team has made many bad decisions lately this is just another one.
You mean this MMORPG is not good enough for you to play any more, if they take out naked chicks? Was it the main reason you would have played Tera Online?
