I would add more if I could do so off the top of my head. I could also go rummage through my physical collection of games isntead of trying to pull all of them out of my mind, in the middle of the freaking of the night. These are the most important I can think up on the go.
This list completely surprisd me.. someone named Oblivion ... and Oblivion isn't on the list. HILARIOUS.
Isn't on WHAT list? This is a list of 40 games or less that define you as a gamer. Oblivion doesn't need to be on any "list" to be in someone's list.
Now that I re-read what you wrote....I get that it's about a user named Oblivion. It still makes no sense to me, but hey....oh well. Oh...Oblivion doesn't list Oblivion....got it. /roll eyes Sorry, I'm caffeine deprived today.
This thread is like comfort food for me. Is that weird? I just like seeing people list games they like. Its a breath of fresh air heh. Anyway, keep em comin! I love reading these
Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed.
My favorite games and in the order in time I played them from 1985 till now.
1. Mario games
2. Zelda games (Mostly all of them, but Link to the Past is my favorite. Also, too many people say OOT is the best.)
3. Quest for Glory 1 VGA Remake (I play only a Magic User, my two older brothers played as Thief and Fighter and only as those)
4. Crusader: No Remorse and No Regret
5. Quake II
6. Infantry Online Harmless Games era and SubSpace
7. Dark Age of Camelot (Original Version before any Expansion Packs)
I would try to fit more on there, like Goldeneye 007 N64 and Donkey Kong Country SNES but I think this list is ok. I was born in 1985 and I have ruthlessly pursued gaming as a hobby ever since I was able. So that should help you understand what era I come from compared to you (all). Most kids at my school didn't play games very much for some reason until Junior High, when Cable Modem internet service started becoming more available. Obviously if I'm much older than you, you will probably not have heard of some of these unless you have done some research on older games or you had an older gamer in your family who showed you. You'll also probably say that OOT is the best Zelda game of all time. :P
Now that I'm in my mid twenties, I have less time to spend and it's harder to get my friends to play games, but I still wish MMORPG devs would make games like DAoC original again. They argue that the fans who played them don't have enough time, but I'm sure we'd get around to finding time to get through it. Oh well. I suppose the above list is my Golden Age of gaming. I wonder if it's mostly over and I'll never find a new game to put on this list. DAoC (original version) seems to be the paramount/supreme end to my golden age.
Also I came up with the name RedX (no space between the Red and the X) because I had to come up with a name when I started online multiplayer gaming with Quake II in 97/98, and the night before I bought Q2 I was LAN Gaming at home with my two older brothers in the game Command & Conquer: Red Alert. I wanted my name to give a "Red Alert, we're under attack!" sort of vibe like a red x is on your radar. As time moved on, RedX became less viable as a name as other people began to use it. So I evolved it to PlasmicRedX.
The plasmic part comes from me fiddling around in the game Infantry on the name Endoplasmic Reticulum, but just "Endoplasmic" because having the 2nd word would be too long. Obviously I got that from Biology class or from a dictionary lol. I got invited to a Squad called MaGe and every member of the squad had to make a MaGe name with alternating caps. So I played as PlaSmiCMaGe. They also changed the squad name to NiNjA later on, so I went as PlaSmiCNiNjA. So that's where the plasmic part comes from.
Federation 2 (Not actually graphical, but... uh... yeah, I'll just slip this in here anyway)
Asheron's Call
Dark Age of Camelot
City of Heroes/Villains
World of Warcraft
Final Fantasy XI
Earth & Beyond
Auto Assault
I debated going back and numbering these, then I realized I probably wrote like 80 or something stupid, so I'll pretend if I don't number them, nobody will notice I can't count.I also probably missed a lot since this was just me naming systems then immediately rattling off what first occured to me as games that really made an impact on my tastes. If I thought longer, the list would probably double or something disgusting. I can't imagine cutting back this list. Every game here is near and dear to my heart and I can tell stories about them for hours.
@meowhead: We have a lot of games in common. Man I remember playing Tobal 2 and thinking how amazing the graphics were. It probably had some of the smoothest polygons on the psx at the time.

Sorry to hear about your Dreamcast(s) I'm crossing my fingers that a next gen console will have downloadable Dreamcast games.
Thought about it over several days and i think i know why UT99 is my fave game.
That is whjy i only need 1 game to sum up myself.
It offers modifications/thinking/challenging/satisfaction/wits/versatility/total control/creativity,online part creates friendships i have many from the game, single player allows for those times you want to be alone it just basically covers the whole spectrum and why this one game is so amazing.
