Instead of Pandarans, I would have liked to see Arakkoa and Ethereals as playable races. I would've bought that xpac.
How exactly would that work though? I mean the Arakkoa seem to be magic users as so does the Ethereals being only one type of class. Not that I wouldn't mind seeing an Ethereal hunter. But then again if we're doing that then I don't see why pandas have to be ruled out. As for WoW in its current state, farmvilling/pokemon'n/bring on the fat oriental pandas with a monk class to boot would be a good thing for them. For whatever subs they lose I'm sure they'll gain more from the "casuals" and "kids" that some people are concerned about. I'm always up for having more people in the game and being able to have a bigger community. WoW has kind of slumped during WOTLK and pretty much fell on their faces with Cata. Trust me. They need whoever they can get. I don't know too much about this expansion pack but then again neither does anyone else. We'll just have to see what happens and what gets posted in the beta reviews. The defiants would have been cool. On neither side. Less overly masculine looking. Not everyone takes steroids. I have my MOP reserved. Worst case scenario is I let my 30 days run out and I still have Rift and TERA.
I see people are still complaining about this. WoW has ALWAYS been cartoon'ish. We have to be 8 to like pandas or welcome the concept of having an oriental themed race with not only pandas but a monk class as well? DON'T PLAY THE #$%@ GAME IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IT!!! Seriously. Its retarded to cry over pandas. There's too much nerd-rage in here.
'WoW has always been a cartoon, so anything cartoon goes', gotcha.
So should I expect Carebears and My Little Ponies in the next expansion?

yeah, we all know how cool it is to go to a website (or in this case thread) and complain about things we don't like. it 's why they made the internet, right?
i think the problem, is that when a group of people are excited about something, they have no desire to hear an anrgy bunch of detractors invade their party. the detracors of said thing, could just as easy flock to things they enjoy. instead, they spew off their opinion as if it matters just for the sake of getting under someones skin. they say it's their 'opinion' as if it means shit, but we all know people do it just to start flamewars. it's a big pissing contest, is it not?
me? i do not go to websites i do not care for, or make posts on game forums that i don't like. i have no clue why it seems so fun to some people. i understand a healthy objective opinion of something is a good thing, but those are few and far between, and usually lost underneath pages of mindless hate. i try to get banned from this site often, just to see how hypocritic the mods are for singlng out my act of hatered, yet ignoring so many others, just because i'm not afraid to use 'bad words'.
so in hope of a good ban. fuck the fuck off to every mod of this site.....
(i won't minfd a perma- ban. really. quit mailng my fucking email with your bullshit)
p.s.- who cares about pandas? i've never played an expansion featured race past 20 anyway. but i ca't wait for my nightelf monk!!!
People dont seem to understand what the definition of "FORUM" is. Allow me to show you.
a meeting or assembly for the open discussion of subjects of public interest
Allow me to define interest and discussion!
INTEREST: A state of curiosity or concern about or attention to something
DISCUSSION: Consideration of a subject by a group; an earnest conversation.
And so this is what you see in any internet FORUM. A public meeting place for open discussion. You'll naturally have voices of curiosity, concern, excitement and otherwise. Negative feelings posted is still INTEREST. Its still worthy of the discussion and thus worthy of the forum itself.
Yet still people cant seem to stop telling "haters" to get out of the threads, and "fanboys" to shut up. Its a forum. Thats like....the very definition of it. You'll have some praise, some hate, and everything in between because thats kind of what a forum is about.
Ive been trying to explain this for years to people. Its so simple to understand yet seems to escape 90% of people participating in a FORUM. Maybe the fact is some of you just dont like forums. So if thats the case dont participate. Because if you do, you are going to get some negative comments because those people are INTERESTED.
And there you have it. And dont bother arguing with me. Or saying, " If people dont like it they should shut up. " Forums are not a fan club. They are a FORUM to have DISCUSSIONS based on INTEREST. Have a nice day.
i never misunderstood what a forum is, nor did i claim what is allowed on them, but thank you for the effort anyway.
i never stated that i was using 'forums' in the only correct/acceptable fashion, just because i use them to gather information (objective views, not mindless praise or bias subjectivity) or maybe to troll some random jackass. i just stated my opinion and never considered it anything but simply that.
and nowhere at any point or in ANY thread i have ever posted, have i said 'if you don't like it , you should shut up.' because, unlike you, i am not going to tell someone what to do with their time, as you so clearly dd in your reply to my post. i just think people of said mentality are useless no-fucks, and that sir, is my opinion, that i am sharing as i participate in this forum.
funny though, how often you mention 'interest', when so many 'haters' are so quick to state how UNINTERESTED they are when they spread hate.
really, i was just shooting for a ban, but i guess the mods take sunday off.
Good. You have an opinion. Although they could have made them less fat. Asians aren't fat yet they wanted to add that oriental theme. Yeah. I guess WoW's panda kind of sux. Hopefully the females pandas aren't as bad.
I wonder if the female pandas have big boobs

TERA is probably the wrong game if cute furries is an issue....
But anyways, making an expansion like this to get more players is risky. Chances are that the kids wont fall for it and instead you loose the old players.
I remember a certain game that revamped itself to be more like Wow in an attemp to get more players, it didn't work out so well.
The main goal of any MMO should be to keep their current players happy. Getting more is a secondary priority but often when you forefill the main one you get more new players as well. Blizzard is taking a huge risk here, the largest they ever taken with Wow.
Of course it might just be that they are making the right choice. People here are mostly older players and that include the ones playing Wow so there are probably more upset people on forums like this than everywhere else.

Concerning #1 - Not much to say here for me. I'm kind of tired of killing the bad guy who's going to end the world repeatedly. You can only kill them so many times before it's just lame.
Concerning #2 - nobody will be confused about who they are attacking, because players are either Red (you attack them) or Green (you don't attack them).
Concerning #3 - Previous incarnations of the talent trees were boiled down to specific specs for specific things. If you raided as dps, you picked this spec. If you raided as a healer, you picked this spec. Repeated until nauseated. Perhaps now there will actually be some choices based on how you want to play instead of how you must play.
Blood Elves and High Elves are very similar. This could potentially cause issues of racial allegiance and misidentification along faction lines. Maybe, someday, we'll utilize the few remaining High Elves as a player race, but it's not something we have any plans for in our current time frame.
I guess they flip-flopped, again. Derp.
Concerning #2 - what Blizzard said has nothing to do with 'who do I punch in da face?' Having Panderan in battlegrounds and arenas will not create any confusion at all. They are talking about something else. I'm not sure what, really. Perhaps people who are unfamiliar with the game rolling Alliance when they meant to roll Horde because of the similarities in Race? Not sure. Whatever it is, it isn't about being confused in Battlegrounds.
Battlegrounds, Arenas and even World PvP will not be confusing because of the race of the characters.

I appreciate all those who are either rushing to defense of Blizzard, a company with a pretty good track record, or who are trying to stand tall agains the Internet's pention for haterism. I suppose to there are those of all ages who think this is neat.
The bottom line though is that this is a game that knows it can throw anything at you that it wants and you will buy it and play it because its WoW. Blizzard does not need to rationalize pandas because their player base will do it for them. As an intelligent consumer you should consider that before buying. So you're not sure what they're talking about, but yiou are sure that it's not in reference to the fact that players might misidentify high-elves as blood-elves, or vice-versa, if they were both playable races... So which is it, either are you sure what Crygil is talking about, or aren't you?
Crygil's response was to a question about why High-elves aren't a playble race. Even if on the off chance that Crygil wasn't talking about misidentification between blood elves and high elves in faction related PvP, then 'whatever other' point Crygil was trying to make is still valid with regards to Pandaren being cross-faction.
But I'm sure you'll come up with some other excuse as to why a past statement from a Blizzard rep regarding a dual faction race isn't relevant to Pandaren.

Yes. I am sure they are not talking about battlegrounds or arenas. No, I am not 100% sure what they are referring to beyond that. The paragraph lacks some context...it's just a blurb of text and there's no conversation around it.
Worrying about picking the wrong faction because of races looking similar makes sense though. It's also an issue they've addressed with the Panderen because you pick your faction after level 10, not when you decide to roll a Panderen.
The statement 'there will be confusion in battlegrounds or arenas' is just dumb. Arenas already have Horde vs Horde teams. If having the same race on opposing teams would be a problem, it would already be a problem. It isn't a problem now, so it won't be a problem when Panderen enter the picture.
** edit ** Please note, the statement is relevant to Panderen, and Blizzard has addressed the issue. The statement is not relevant to battlegrounds or arenas.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
And all the whiners who complain about WoW going to the casuals and kids just need to NOT post their complaints and go back to playing whatever it is that is so much better. Everyone is free to post whatever, including you AND "the whiners." Quit crying and get over it people. "We" could say the same to you. People disliking this expansion is just bugging the shit outta you. I'm sorry, but that's the kind of thing you face on public forums. You haven't even tried the new expansion yet. Neither have you.... If you don't like the theme of it fine. Not everyone likes what every other person likes. Exactly. That's why we voice our opinions and discuss them on forums. No one is forcing you to play. No, and I'm not playing anymore, BUT...I played for six and a half years and have invested much time in the game and have a RIGHT to still take interest in it and still care what they do to it. I'm always looking for a reason to return. They just haven't given me one yet.
Green text is what I added to what you said. And let me say this part again....I still have interest/concern for WoW. I invested a lot of time and money there. I keep looking for a reason to return, alas Blizzard has failed to give me one thus far. I don't HATE WoW (or pandas, for that matter) but I am unhappy with what I have seen from Cataclysm on. If you can't understand that, then I don't know what to tell you. And yes, I understand that you like WoW "as is." Nothing wrong with that, but don't expect everyone to agree with it either.
I appreciate all those who are either rushing to defense of Blizzard, a company with a pretty good track record, or who are trying to stand tall agains the Internet's pention for haterism. I suppose to there are those of all ages who think this is neat.

Good point but there even for Warcraft there will be a line in the sand where players arn't prepared to cross . You can only abuse people so much for so long before they get wise to you . Blizzards fast approaching that point and I believe with this expansion they have crossed it .
The eventual lesson that may be learned from this and used as a cautionary tale for future mmo developers is how fast and hard the mighty can fall .
Theres been a certain belief in many people that nothing could ever topple this game and that it could never drop significantly in popularity but thats pretty stupid because it will be topple at some point and lose its popularity even sooner . Nothing lasts forever not even the World of Warcraft .
I would say this is the first nail in its coffin but its already got a few nails in it already . Rift and Cataclysm combined to a drop of nearly a million players this year and what ever way Blizzard want to spin it thats not the seasonal drop between expansions . I'm also convinced given the desperation of the Pandas are real announcement from Blizzard the drop is now way over a million players and probably closer to 2 million .
Given you have the fastest ever selling pre-order mmo coming out in a month in StarWars the Old Republic that total can only drop even more in the coming months .
Its not the end of the begining for WoW its the begining of the end . The death throws may take years and the old girl might linger on becoming more and more insignifcant .
Plain and Simple Blizzard realized they couldn't compete with Bioware on Swtor so they chose to target the other big half of their audience the China market. They know that China is not that keen on Star wars stuff and blizzard knows they can at least milk WoW longer if they target that market.
I would give you a guest pass to SWOTR, but then I wouldn't be able to find a way to live with myself afterwards....

The problem is that your bottom line argument is incorrect just by the very basis of all these threads. You say they can throw anything out there they want and people will just buy it... However; most of the hate post I have read are from current angry wow players who are not going to play... So, how could your statement be true?
I for one can't wait. Im making a panda shaman. I already have an alien shaman, so this isn't a huge stretch rofl.
Plain and Simple Blizzard realized they couldn't compete with Bioware on Swtor so they chose to target the other big half of their audience the China market. They know that China is not that keen on Star wars stuff and blizzard knows they can at least milk WoW longer if they target that market.
Really? China is not keen on Star Wars... Didn't know that as I live in the US.. So you live in China correct? Because surely you're not speaking for all 1.3 billion people in China I would hope...
And to assume that Blizzard, a company with the current #1 game in the mmo market can't ompete with a game that isn't even out yet reeks of ignorance. Do you know how many games were supposed to have killed wow at this point? Let's see TOR hit a third of wow's subs first and then we'll talk.
I think a majority of everyone here has forgotten many of the old designers and developers have moved on to their next game Titan. So basically WoW has been dumbed down for more younger subscribers to keep the money flowing in for that games development. Some don't believe WoW can die but i think it will for people 17+ with this expac and new games around the corner (Swotor & Gw2 & whenever titan is released) though it might live who knows.
I disagree with your logic that since pandas were a part of the lore, this equates to a great choice, or that being in lore dismisses the negative reaction within the community.
It does neither, in fact. There are other, better choices not in lore and the are better choices within the lore, such as Ethereals. Pandas are a poor choice (we associate pandas as cute animals and see them as stuffed animals and cartoon heroes) within the many available, in lore choices.
It appears Bliazzard did this as a nod to the Chinese community, in the same way a Chinese MMO would retain and grow its American player base by introducing a timber wolf race. I guess.
... yeah - the only problem Blizz haven't probably considered yet is that asian audience have gone for WoW (and SC) without any "eastern" additions like pandas and pokemons... it is still a question if they will actually like those additions ))) Imagine - they were attracted by this cool western MMO and now all this western look spoiled by pandas and stuff... ))) *evil* Pandas just zuck and all the panda deffenders sound like the supporters for gay rights out there ))) lol While gays sure have their rights, WoW was always the one cool MMO for everybody you know - and now you they ask us to be more tollerant and just play the gay stuff no matter our prefferences )))) lol
It would have been 10 times saver when they would make an xpac with Emerald Dream or something like that.
Alot of people are upset with panda's and pokemon, if you like panda's probs to you, but so many people do find them childish even tough you find them cute funny...
Sorry to say this but Blizzard took a big big risk with this and this might real backfire with great force.
Not to mention the 2 mmo's that are already having big preorders.
Cataclysm dint have the expected sales blizzard hoped for, they lost 1 million subs in 1 year the be exact.
MoP - SWtor - GW2 might do wow alot of harm in 2012.

** edit **
Please note, the statement is relevant to Panderen, and Blizzard has addressed the issue. The statement is not relevant to battlegrounds or arenas.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
Desperate attempt at chinese subs because their profit margin is hurting.

I for one can't wait. Im making a panda shaman. I already have an alien shaman, so this isn't a huge stretch rofl.
There can't be anything more ironic than WoW players thinking pandas makes the game childish. HAhahahahahahahahaha...
