    So?

That leaves 75% left and as said, they only need a total of 17% to sub.

You don't get beta access for pre-ordering, only a few days head start at launch.

Lead paint and asbestos were pretty big sellers in their day too.

I used to play MMOs like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee.

Wish you guys the best of luck, sadly Im afraid come launch there are going to be 802,975 really pissed off people.

Probably in the time it took you to cancel, five more pre-ordered, so sorry to see you go but.. meh.

Well on top of that make it,  802,974 people that could potentially be pissed off.  As I've preordered, and I've played the game and I'm rather happy.  I can't speak for anyone else though.

Yep. Now if SWTOR can last as long as those did, that's a helluva run.

Or 802, 974 people could potentially love it.

    See how that goes?

ya, I misread the head start.

I have cancled mine as well, I have lost interest in it,

    3 Factors:

    1.) Bioware

    2.) Starwars

3.) MMO Popularity (digging into casual players much more).

Those 3 factors are what gives it those numbers. With one of those elements missing, I'd bet the numbers would be a bit less. Not saying its going to be bad, but with hype, it tends to inflate greatly with big names and with more crowds coming for MMOs it makes it that much easier.

If you want to judge, judge off its subscription and reception after release rather then pre-orders. Its never good to mix up hype with what it actually is. If the game has a high player base after 6 months, then it would be noteworthy.

So is it safe to say that this game currently holds around 1.5 million pre-orders worldwide? (US and Europe box sales + digital sales).

Currently Playing: SSFIV AE, SFxTekken, SWTOR, WoW. Waiting for: GW2, Resident Evil 6.

Its not like they don't have an estimate of how many people will plan to do that.  Companies that are experienced in any field have trends that show what percentage of customers may return a product/end up not paying for it.  Most likely it's been accounted for and wont have any significant impact on bioware or EA at all.

So no digital only box now that is a quite impressive.

800k, 8 Million....I don't care....All I care about is if I like it when I play it...Numbers mean nothing, and someone else liking it does nothing for me, just as someone not liking it does the same.

I agree, to a point.  If I like the game, I want others to like it too, because I want it to be succesful enough to push further growth and expansion.

Well...Yes, to an extent, but numbers don't mean it will be good or bad...Thats what I am saying.  WAR had a lot of preorders, while  it is still around, I found it lacking.....I could go on, but the point being, even if the game sucks, it probably will survive, due to the name....So I am not so worried about its future, just how the game is.

I am not playing anything, since I left Rift, so it would be great if it is a good game, or good enough to get me by till GW2, but I am hoping it is good.  I don't hope anything sucks, I like to play games.  So I would be much more enoucraged if they lifted the NDA, or much more happy if I got into beta to see for myself....Box sales don't excite me.

I won't be surprise if the game sold for 6mil by the next quarter.

Agreed.  Box sales are meaningless... how much subs they maintain will be a lot more telling.  I'm hoping it's worth playing at least 'till GW2 or TSW... if it's better, then perhaps I'll skip one of the others.  I've definitely seen enough to know not to get my hopes up.

When WoW came out, the local Wal Mart had a pallet of boxes.

As soon as something Star Wars is physically on the shelf...well I just hope they give pre-orderees priority in the queues.

I have never seen this many American box pre-orders sales for any game with 7 weeks to go, I usually see those type of numbers start to sky rocket around 3-4 weeks before release not 7 weeks, at this pace Sw:tor will have well over 1.5 million American box pre-orders before launch.

World wide counting box & digital sales should be well over 3 million, your thoughts?

Question: What other games in the past had this those type of pre-order numbers 6-7 weeks before launch?

Honestly, IMO that number seems low for Star Wars IP in the biggest consumer country in the world (USA).

Might be because its just Box orders or early shoppers. Also, it would be extremely surprising if sales were consistent or predictable for games, so I'll pass on any guesses the launch date sales will be at (pre-orders are also not sales - more like rain checks/reserved copies) especially given the launch dates proximity to Christmas a number of those could very well be gifts that can be ignored/changed if the reciever doesn't want them (due to lack of interest and/or bad press/reviews).

As far as pre-orders 7 weeks before launch being high, well as stated above its Star Wars IP and unlike most MMO's not a complete unknown nor is Bioware and most definately Not EA. Plus timing of the launch pretty much dictates getting the order in early or deal with it during Christmas seasons shopping chaos. I actually figure the Launch Date was someones trick into getting advance notice on rough projections of the initial playerbase for server budgeting and plans since christmas shopping season is notorious for running out of stuff til after the holidays essentially giving SWTOR a time frame to be able to get things in order with Launch - given that it may end up ruining holidays for staff and some consumers possibly along with staff holiday bonuses and vacation time I'm guessing it was a longtime EA executive but you never know, there could a new dirtbag trying to make a name.

800k, that's seriously a lot if that's only NA preorders and only box.

I'd estimated the launch figures to be something like 1.5-2 million in total, but if those are the known figures, then the total figures have to be even higher that that. I think there hasn't been an MMORPG that launched with more than 1 million copies actually sold.

Damn, servers will be crazy at launch, I'm glad I'm not one of the people doing server management and maintenance at the SWTOR launch.

? Lord of the Rings is 1 of the biggest IP's too yet they launched with far lower launch figures, and the Star Wars IP didn't provide phenomenally peaking sales for SWG.

When you look at the broader picture of sales figures of AAA MMORPG's, then to me it looks like SWTOR is doing pretty well, its preorder figures for NA boxes alone seems to be already higher than the total launch figures of as good as all former MMORPG's. Personally I found that pretty astounding and (to me) unexpected.
