Anyone find these goofy on the PC? Some of the menu items I can click with mouse, some I can't and need to move the keyboard. Am I the only one with this issue?

    Not experiencing those issues here.

Takes some getting used to but keyboard is the way to go with this UI. It's much faster that way. Scrolling goes quickest with W and S, compared to cursors: at vendors you need to click down or up each time to jump a line up or downwards, with W and S you'll scroll through them by holding them.

30mins in i plugged the 360 controller into the PC and have been playing that way. The keyboard and mouse setup is just too counterintuitive at the moment, hopefully it's patched or a mod sorts it out as i've been getting the evil eye from the other half for having skyrim on the TV and lounging on the couch with thr controller.

I just want to be able to re-map all of the keys honestly... I dont mind the menues too much, but I'm a lefty and ALWAYS map keys from the wasd cluster over to the numpad.

There have been a few games lately that seem to think WASD is the "only" acceptable mapping convention, and it's kind of crap imo.

Yeah the controls and UI is wonky. And remapping keys right now is even more wonky, and nearly broken. I remapped Unsheath to Mouse4 and my Left-Hand to Shift, and the in-game menus (inventory, etc.) do not recognize these keys at all, it seems (at least for me).

So with left hand set to Shift, I can't equip anything to my left hand, even though the game reads it just find outside the menus (can use it to guard with a two-handed weapon equipped, for example).

Some aren't affected by those issues, but for me, the game is in dire need of a patch to fix these.

Because besides the controls and UI, I'm loving this game >.>

(and why the hell are numpad keys reserved and unbindable?)

Glad I'm not the only one who felt this, putting up with it till a patch/mod.

  • AethaerynAethaeryn Member RarePosts: 3,150

It is terrible in my opinion.  There should never be a game on the PC where you can't click on a menu item to chose it or hit "esc" to leave / back up the current UI screen.

EDIT:  The patch did made a big difference.

Controls aren't that bad but I can't help to think that it's been made for consoles like the Xbox...

It took me about 10 min to get used to but now I like it. You can use W and S not just the up and down keys. It's actually a lot faster than using a mouse.

You can remap wasd to the arrows.

You can remap wasd to the arrows.

YET, when you do the game doesn't recognise that fact when you try lockpicking for instance you still have to use A,D instead of left/right arrow keys, and also you can't remap the quick use buttons 1-8 either plus some others aswell.

I want to be able to re-map ALL the controls not 3/4 of them.

even alot of the graphic options are hidden in .ini files aswell which sucks.

I would think it would be far superior on the PC with a 360 controller plugged in.  I wonder if there is a way to get data on wired 360 controller sales. . I bet it Skyrockets this week.  I have considered going out and grabbing one.

Maybe I will grab this on the 360. . It looks amazing on my PC though.

You are not alone. . for Skyrim I don't think it would be terrible. . for first person shooters I just can't see how anyone could like it better (assuming they had equal experience with a mouse.

Well , the thing I dislike is, where the hell is my hotbar ????

Sucks having to hit Q or I or whatever all the time to change weapons, or cast a spell !

Or am I missing something to get that to  come up in the UI?

you are missing somethign, though there is no hotbar. Sort of a good thing in order to get rid of an interface clogging up the screen.

anyting you want to use you should make "a favorite". This is done when your cursor is over the item, spell, etc. and then look in the lower left and you will see which button to use.

Then hit "Q" and as your cursor is over the item/it's selected, hit a number button. you now can use any skill you want with any button you want.

    Hope that helps.

What does "Q" do by default? Or is this one of those things that the game wants Q regardless of what's bound to it? I'd simply just try it but I'm not home atm.

EDIT: I'll never understand why I always want to say non-existant "irregardless" instead of "regardless" >.>

The UI takes some getting use to on the PC, but once you figure out how it works it is pretty slick.   ^_^

  • xKingdomxxKingdomx Member UncommonPosts: 1,541

Yea had those problems as well

    Advices:

    1. Download patch 1.1 if you haven't already, it upgrades the UI controls and mouse accessibilty, You can click on things easier, assign things to your mouse keys faster.

    2. You can use WSAD to navigate the menu pretty quick, instead of the arrow keys as they said

How much WoW could a WoWhater hate, if a WoWhater could hate WoW?
As much WoW as a WoWhater would, if a WoWhater could hate WoW.

Q brings up "favorites". These are skills/items you want to use very quickly.

I wouldn't worry about wanting to use coloquialisms. I don't judge.

the ONLY problem i have with the game so far is re-mapping a few keys.

ex- i like to 'activate' with the F key, but if i change it, my favorites key is broken in the menu.

ex- i like to have 'run' on the R key, but if i change it, the drop item function in the item menu is broken.

yes. this is very frusterating. i have TES3 and 4 mapped almost exactaly the same, but Skyrim won't allow it. i have to get used to this setup and im not too thrilled about it.

but other than Key mapping, i think the game is AMAZING so far.

I would love to believe they might release a patch for the interface but I'm not holding my breath.

I realize some think that the modding community will fix it but to be honest I've never used a mod interface that wasn't buggy nad in a way I hated.
