Sorry, but after watching that I am very happy to be looking forward to GW2.
Seems like it's the same ol' same ol' from the "other" MMO I used to play.
It does look fluid thou.
You're going to be dissapointed my friend.
Dissapointed in missing out on SWToR? Or dissapointed in in GW2? which isnt even out yet and isnt even in beta? I assure you from what I played at Pax, GW2 is the shiznit and what little bit we played was enough to convince me that GW2 is going to be mega huge-now if ANet would only market it like Bioware has ToR.
What marketing? I have yet to see a TOR commercial on TV of even on the internet.
Maybe people are just more interested in a SW MMO then they are a fantasy one?
She's now a self proclaimed fan girl and can't wait for release.
It may be nothing special to you, but for me and my guild it's the game to wait for and even playing it in it's current Alpha state has not dissapointed.
Is your guild playing GW1?
The only reason I could see anyone taking GW2 over TOR is because of the combat and DE everything else is just Ok.
Lets leave ti at that.
Oh lol, didn't realise you were arguing a Tor vs GW2 point of view. Guess I should have guessed.
I could list many reasons why someone would pick one over the other but it's completely off topic and irrelevant because GW2 does not need defending.
It's impossible for something to suit everyones needs. ToR will be perfect for those who want a game similar to WoW with an updated graphics engine, and GW2 will be perfect for those who want new mechanics and an evolution of the genre done right. Sandbox players are kinda screwed though.
So yeah, lets just leave it at that.
Wow you're not bias at all Lol. Both of you are trolling fanbois its funny really.
Is there also something wrong in saying that ToR is similar to WoW with a better engine? As far as I can tell that is pretty truthful.
Ever play COH or GW1?
Play the former over the latter and I'll punch (Not really) you if you come back and tell me that TOR plays like WoW. TOR has no auto attack and I like you thought this made no differance, well it actually does and quite a bit if I must add.
As far as Im concirned if TOR is similar to WoW then so is GW1. Combat wise at least.
And how does that have any revelance to your argument? Doesnt matter what other game I have played. For the record I have played every MMO released in the last 12 years, but since it has no bearing on the argument and me playing the Beta of SWToR has, I can assure you that SWToR is a WoW clone with VERY little differentiation.
Playing: GW2 Waiting on: TESO Next Flop: Planetside 2 Best MMO of all time: Asheron's Call - The first company to recreate AC will be the next greatest MMO.
Another gw2 vs tor thread? Look I'm one of gw2's proponents as well but I try my hardest not to bring it up in another games thread. I wish others would do the same. Judge the OPs topic on its own merits, not as a comparison to another game.
Sorry, but after watching that I am very happy to be looking forward to GW2.
Seems like it's the same ol' same ol' from the "other" MMO I used to play.

Now see, that's the thing. I've seen all the videos of GW2, and heard all their talk about non-trinity and dynamic events and no end game raiding, and I gotta say, I don't see the hype surrounding the game. The general theme of the combat system sounds good in theory, but I haven't been impressed with any of the gameplay videos I've seen. It's looked like a muddle mess from what I've seen, with Arenanet focusing more energy on outrageous particle effects than actually making the combat look clean and fluid. I have serious reservations about the world size due to the fact they aren't allowing mounts in game (huge red flag). Also, large portions of the game are underwater areas? Underwater combat is simply not fun to me in any respect. It's frustrating and annoying.
The dynamic events look cool, but I seriously have doubts about the "no questing" BS they are feeding the public. I mean, they still have scout npcs directing people to these events, which are more than likely just fancy quest chains, so really, aren't these scout npcs just like quest givers?
And the lack of trinity? I think this is going to be a disaster for actual boss fights. The concept is that players will be able to shuttle in and out of combat as the tank, and no one player will be depended on to do all the tanking. Aside from the fact that I don't believe that will happen, and aside from the fact that you are STILL going to have someone tanking the boss, some people dpsing the boss, and some heals going out (which, if I'm not mistaken, is what we call "trinity"), we honestly are supposed to believe that will not just be a gigantic clusterfuck? You can tell it will be because Arenanet can't even make up their minds on how aggro will work. For a supposed "non-trinity" system to work, there needs to be a very simple system for mob aggro in place. Something predictable, in fact, otherwise the fight will end up looking like a Chinese fire drill or one of those old Benny Hill shows where the mob is chasing around the raid members, getting kited all over the place, and just bouncing back and forth between them. Not going to be a lot of fun for melee dps, is it? So originally, AN stated that aggro will be strictly about proximity, whoever is closest to the mob will have the aggro. So that makes a little bit of sense in that the mob can be controlled a bit easier that way and you can bring some strategy into the fight. Now they are saying, "Well, we're going to add some other stuff too. Like, the mob might peel off and head for people doing more damage, or healers." Basically, the same as any other MMO. Only problem is now you have no one to control that aggro, and your best dps are automatically gimped because they'll be tanking the fight because they put out too much damage and there is no one who can keep the boss' attention. I just see this being an unmitigated disaster...with particle effects. Lots and lots of particle effects.
And don't even get me started on racial models. They look ridiculous. Humanoids with leaves attached to them? Furries? Things with tails? C'mon...
Crafting? Haven't heard much about it. Skill system? You basically only have control of about 4-5 hot keys for customization in skills, right? Where is the fun in that? They only give you 8 hotkeys for skills, and 3-4 of them are already dictated by your weapon choice? Sounds kinda lame. No endgame to speak of? I mean, yes, DE events, but honestly, they are going to have you doing the same thing at endgame that you did while levelling? INSTANCED RVRVR system, not trule Open World PvP? Really? For a game that touts itself as a good PvP game? It's just a two week battleground, isn't it?
Now see, these are just my opinions of GW2 and certainly not shared by the majority of people. I can certainly respect that, and I don't expect the fact that my indifference towards GW2 should sway anyone to my side of the argument, nor should my views be taken as gospel on how well this game is going to do, which is the exact reason I don't spend any time on the GW2 boards giving my opinion of the game. People have diffeent tastes, and I don't expect everyone to agree with mine. But we do get an inordinate amount of people on the SWTOR boards letting us know that just because they don't like SWTOR or the style of game it is, that it is an unquestioning FACT that the game will fail, and we are all just too blind to see it.
She's now a self proclaimed fan girl and can't wait for release.
It may be nothing special to you, but for me and my guild it's the game to wait for and even playing it in it's current Alpha state has not dissapointed.

So you think you are the only one in beta? what makes your assurance so special? let me gues you have been playing MMOS for 12 years.big deal haan? i can also assure others that SWTOR is not a WOW clone but who am i anyways to pass off my opinion as some kind of truth? people have beta keys so they can see for themselves and draw their own conclusions. I don't think they need your assurance for anything.

This game is nothing like WoW, if you want ot get technical.
But of corse you don't.
Please download this and play it. Come back and tell me if this is a WoW Clone. http://na.cityofheroes.com/en/ If you think it is than any evolution in this genre is doomed.

No it is not. SWTOR is a themepark MMOS so plays like one unless WOW somehow started or defined entire themepark genre. I can also label GW2 as a WOW clone because other then dynamic events it plays very much like your typical MMORPG. You just can not cherry pick certain features out of MMO you dislike and call it WOW clone. You gotto look at the full feature list that SWTOR or any new MMO is offering you.
Just one question. Notice the red text spamming the center of the screen in the vid? Is this a macro that ties all the skills to one button or something similar? That constant spamming red text is all I need to stay away. WASD and spam 1 key = zzzzzzzzzzz.
Notice I didn't even mention the attrocious saber sounds.

Edit: My god, just watched the vid and really hope you can mute lightsaber sound effects when in a raid group. That sound got old fast.
Yeah I played it myself and with the exceptoin of combat its nothing special.
And like TORs story it will get old fast.
I haven't tried GW2 yet, but I gotta say, tone down the f*****g particle effects, ArenaNet. The combat may be fun, but it looks like a muddy mess on videos I've seen due to all those particle effects. It would be nice to actually see what's going on in combat, especially in a game where they are going to be playing musical chairs with the tanking and healing assignments.
i remember somewhere that the dev said u will be ablt to tone down the effect of spell and all other thing in ur setting to the point that u wont even see anything spell effect. and they are supposed to lower it anyway all video u saw was all alpha build anyway.
~The only opinion that matters is your own.Everything else is just advice,~
Yes, it is. Aside, from glowing swords, and lasers instead of arrows.

You can do whatever you want. There is no reason to be upset about liking WoW gameplay. Millions love it. Some don't. However, you are really setting yourself up for disappoint if you don't think this game plays just like WoW. However, if you enjoy WoW, Rift, LOTRO, WAR, and the other linear, quest based, gear grinding marathons then you will love TOR. No shame in that.
I suggested somewhere SWTOR should show some early level raid gameplay because of Rift. And here it is. IMO this is good, it helps forming a community. I still have an opinion, but it is good to see early MMO gameplay in this game. Or is it an instance?
Honestly, for a launch product, it's very stable and runs perfectly (other than some to be expected graphical glitches). My single biggest grip with beta (may change) is the very bland character creation. It's far less than what I had hoped for but so very typical.
They REALLY missed the boat with that. There could have been SO much more invested here. I know it's not an issue for a lot of people but for me, it's what I'm going to be playing for however long. I want choices!
Yes, it is. Aside, from glowing swords, and lasers instead of arrows.

Two thirds of that raid group are Sith warriors, and only 3 people were not a jedi class.
You know, I hate stating the obvious, but a lot of people (me included) are playing the classes they know they wont play at release, to make sure we dont ruin the storyline of our chosen class(es).

ITT people complain about the noise the lightsabers make in a Star Wars game...
By the way, if you can't read, this is Level 18 World Boss. Not in a flashpoint. Nothing special. If you even look at the name of the mob its name is "The First" Boss. I'm pretty sure this video is from very early in the beta.
It's absolutely unbelievable, after going through the comments on this thread, how many people are completely misinformed about the MMORPG's they talk about. I don't think I've seen a single chain of correct features listed in anyone's responses for Guild Wars 2, Star Wars The Old Republic, or generally any MMO that was spoken of. The complete list of features for both the titles mentioned before are right here on this site in full detail. Read them and then respond please >.<
As to the OP: Of course a lot of people want to use force users instead of the others. Not everyone's a hardcore Star Wars fan and a lot of players, I'd imagine, have only seen the six movies or, even worse, just the prequels >.< So it stands to reason that many of them would want to be that bad ass Jedi Knight or Sith Inquisitor. That definitely doesn't mean there won't be a ton of others who play the other classes. When I was in the beta, I saw a lot of diversity so this isn't an entirely valid concern.
Give me an A10 and a few Hellfire missiles to take out those bosses. Really this game is not my cup of tea...I have a beta key..not sure I will use it.
Two thirds of that raid group are Sith warriors, and only 3 people were not a jedi class.
Um......................... So what? This is actually a positive thing. The group could take on a world boss without having to follow strict parameters in their composition. Having a bunch Sith Warriors is a lot less effective than having a more balanced group.
Sorry, but after watching that I am very happy to be looking forward to GW2.

Up side: This video probably does not justify the depth of the entire game.
