Alrighty, I dont know how many Harry Potter fans there are around here (if any) but I found this on one of my days where I was bored, and scouring the internet for some 3D artists... lol.
To explain it in short, I went to a site, which linked to another persons site, which linked to another, and eventually to this portfolio, WHICH I found something that might prove the eventual existance of Hogwarts Online.
If you go to http://www.newpencil.com and click on Portfolio, then proceed to click on "Environments" on the new menu that comes up, you will see, many screenshots of a world they are developing for EA for the upcoming "Hogwarts Online".
They seem like a credible site, and I see no reason for them to post false media on their portfolio... so enjoy

Site does look credible. I actually never thought of an MMO in that universe but financially it could be a hit.
Will it have good pvp??
scientology
Of course it would have PvP. Malfoy vs. Potter. It's only natural.
I've no idea why - but I'd probably play this game, jeez I'm worried about me....
Benny.......................................
Well if they can make a good game out of it, without everyone being Harry Potter himself then i think it could rock. The world is already set magic is included and if they don't cartoonize and kid's game - alize it, i'd play it.
Can anyone say: ToonTown Online?
Hogward Online ?
You mean i have to go to class when im not in school ?
Harry Potter vr. Satan.....a common fight
I highly doubt a Harry Potter MMORPG would have PvP. Although it would be nice, the majority of the reader base is young children to pre-teens.
I would play this also, if it sounds good. It will be neat to see how far this goes.
but one problem I do see: THOUSANDS OF 8-13 YEAR OLDS RUNNING AROUND!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
Very interesting idea.... and if it's for real (which it looks like it may well be) I suspect it will do VERY well for itself.
And, I agree, I don't see PVP happening in this one if it comes to light..... because I don't see the franchise allowing it's title to have PVP associated with it. The books, after all, were targetted at children. There might be dueling as an option, however....
Currently Playing: Dungeons and Dragons Online.
Sig image Pending
Still in: A couple Betas
Interesting find!
I'd bet it would have dueling since that was a big part of the books, but not any other type of PvP
I know, I was joking about PvP. Most likely the game would be targeted towards the age group that reads the books. It could be a fun experience for awhile but I also imagine it would be a bit shallow.
i would only play if it had pvp
edit: though playing quidditch would be pretty nuts
I highly doubt there will ever be a Harry Potter MMO.
The tabletop RPG license has been approached for many times and Mrs Rowling has turned down the application every single time on the basis that they somehow rot minds or somesuch (I forget the exact quote).
While there have been standard computer games I doubt that an MMO would get past her problems with the genre.

Money talks, bull walks. There will be a MMO. Several video game for PC and console games have been created. Not the mention the fact that she will eventually loose rights to the Harry Potter trademark.
Therefore, it is not a matter or whether or not they will have one, because they will. The question is how soon.
In addition, PVP can be instituted by creating different schools, such as in the Fourth Harry Potter book. There could even be a monthly Triwizard Cup. There are many possibilities.
looks interesting... but it will be mainly for preteens ....
i still hope there wont be a hogwarts online..
Thanks for the link, theanimedude
If the developers take this project seriously, a Harry Potter mmorpg could be VERY VERY good mmorpg. It is an entirely new genre in it's own right.
It wont be 100% fantasy
It wont be 100% Sci fi
Sadly, it seems, as if the mmorpg industry has just these two mmorpg genres. Not that fantasy is a bad start...
Im not a big Harry Potter fan, but if this game is done well (as so far those screenshots are very nice) I'd be one of the first that would try it out.
But like I said....it would have to be done right....meaning; the content needs to be very involving, the way you progress needs to be nicely done, etc
if this game goes live, I'm going Sliverin

Creative control = When the creator of a work makes, as a condition of their approval for a project, that they get final say and/or contribution at every stage of the project. This can be good (RE: Potter Movies) or can be obsessive and difficult (when applied to a relatively freefrom environment such as an RPG or MMO).
She seems to have an inherent objection to TTRPGs for some reason and, on the computer, MMOs are probably the closest cousin to those since both contain freeform play, people creating their own characters and backgrounds and an ongoing, partially user-created world.
This is the other area that many creators balk at when it comes to game conversions etc. They don't like the idea of others 'playing in their universe' in ways they don't like (take slash fiction for example).
For these two reasons I doubt that such an endeavour would get made, or that if it were it would allow as great a degree of freedom as a standard MMO.
That or she's a bit hypocritical and enough money CAN sway her mind, but if the movie people couldn't get her to make changes with the amount they throw around, I doubt it.
