Supernerd-- Seriously, dude, if you don't want gender roles to inhibit or otherwise contaminate your gaming GO PLAY BLADEMISTRESS. Everyone is female (rather, the avatars are all female)... So nobody is going to receive "special treatment" because the image on the screen that depicts them happens to have large, jiggling breasts. EVERYONE has large, jiggling breasts!!!

Sometimes life throws you a curveball, Supernerd. Think of this thread as a learning experience. While you may well stand fast in your opinion that women don't belong in the online gaming community... in about 2 years you'll change your tune (and wish that women played football, hockey, shared your locker room in gym class... oh, the list goes on)

The cooties that you think run so rampant amongst the opposite sex will disappear and you'll realize how stale the world would be without women in it.

Whoah, sloooow down. The majority of males pick female avatars for good reasons. It has nothing to do with them being "creeps".

1. To see what it is like to play as a female avatar. Aka to get a better understanding from a female gamer's POV.

2. RPing purposes. RPing litterally means being someone else, another character. This includes playing females. Did you know ultra-stud James Cagney got his start by playing females? Now that is hardcore acting LOL!

3. Stats. There might be certain stats that male players prefer that female avatars have.

4. Boredom.

5. Well, in a poll at womengamers.com, many males said they like hearing their female character screams instead of male avatar screams. Make of this what you want.

6. To get an edge. Aka take full advantage of people like Supernerd. Getting tons of free times to trade to their OTHER male, main, character LOL!

Funny though, they seem to be the exact same ones who flame women on the message boards )

Just because men use their penises to think 99.9% of the time doesn't mean we're neccessarily concerned about the penis factor. We'd be just as likely, if not MORE, to ask for help from another female and avoid any testosterone overflows altogether.

Nahh... I would say all the tons of other posters at this site MMORPG.com ..... by them coming out and posting on this thread in a mature way have usurped this thread from Supernerd... turning this thread in to a decent discussion. K i have two things to say i play a girl toon on daoc and i was called a senorita the other day, and i was given a lot of money without askin...funny part im a guy

. Also my guild leader was hit on by prolly a 15 year old kid and he was askin her to marry him(in game). The funny part about that shes a 40 year old women with a 5 year old kid

if only he knew. Goes to show you it just a game keep it that way and dont go hittin on everything that looks like a girl.

I can agree with somethings he says. I first had this experience back in the day with Everquest. I was pretty much a noob as Everquest was my first graphical online game (MUDs rock!!!!) Anyway, It was back in the day when Banded Armor pwned, and I made a female character just to get people to give me free stuff and they did!!! LoL!!! I was a female barbarian and people just gave me stuff for free cause I said I was a female but hey, I got a runed staff (Not sure exactly of the name) but it was great back then. People are a lot nicer to girls, because as my male character, I wouldn't of gotten crap. Atleast, i got free stuff out of the experiment

You're right... not every guy who chooses a female avatar is creepy. Not everyone has an ulteriour motive for doing so... other than esthetics or for role playing purposes. Truthfully, in recent years, I've not met very many guys who do it for creepy reasons. The ratio of women to men is increasing every day. The stats I saw for the 45% was including all sorts of online gaming, not just MMORPGs, but even so, that 25% seems a wee bit conservative.

I feel sorry for Supernerd. The way some people, primarily adults, attacked him for his opinions probably scared him off, if he is, in fact, only 13. Those adults calling him names and personally attacking him should be ashamed. They're no better than those friends of his who allow someone who might be female ruin his gaming experience.

I have a good policy which works for me. I consider everyone I meet in a game to be female unless proven otherwise. I advise my husband, however, to consider the opposite. (for his health) ::::19:: Seriously, though... I'm at a loss to understand the reaction of some men when they find women in games. I mean, it's not as if we don't exist outside games. Where are all these rich buggers who want to shower us with presents and give us eleventy-one bajillion dollars for no reason in the real world? Dammit!

I think I'm guilty... When I find out a girl is playing a game I almost always tend to start calling them babe... I dont know why... I"M SOORRYY!!!! FORGIVE ME!!!!! ::::16::

But on the other hand I always play a female character on NeverWinter Nights online because I dont even have to pretend... Stupid guys will just run past me and drop armor or potions or weapons... LOL I love it...

My wife played Anarchy Online for a while, one of her guildmates came round to see her - a dutch lass visiting the UK. Was pretty odd though , turns out the guild had eight or nine women playing in it and only knew about two of them initially.
Most of the female gamers I've been introduced to recently have been a lot more mentally balanced than the guys.

When i was playing Everquest Online Adventures (I realy want to re-activate my account!) I knew plenty of girls and women. None of them intended to be treated special. It was all just male players who treated them special, And i do not agree that they should be.

I think that in most cases people online are somewhat attracted to the female chars so all you gotta do is add a girly name and they'd like you. I was in Freeport one time on a female char (not a female name) and some guy randomly walked up and gave me 50,000 gold. Another time one guy was asking to cyber me . There truely are some lonely people.

One guy in my party/group we werre grinding and he was hitting on one of the females in our group/party he imediatly stopped when he found out she was like 53 or somthing. And many of the females are guys just seeking extra attention because they know they'll get it from the tons of losers that play the mmo's. Never know who your talking to online lol.

And No i totaly do not agree that females should get special help, and free stuff but hey its that players loss giving his stuff to a guy pretending to be a girl
