Just wondering, are the cutscenes truly a selling point for the majority buying the game? Because I've been playing the beta (started today), and I'm already sick of them.

When the lag isn't so bad that I can actually enjoy them.

yeah, I love having a reason to quest / do missions.
But then I am a Star Wars fan, and a Bioware fan. I enjoy a goos story based game, especially when it is about one of my favorite IPs, and made by a company responsible for many of my favorite SP games.
I only like some of them, when theres something going on. I skip some of them, most notably world quest cutscenes - from non basic speaking NPCs. Those are usually the ones where you can't really skirt the choices very much.
Heroics I watch, and player stories I watch..... also, flashpoints too. They are usually enjoyable.
The cutscenes are one of the biggest reasons why I won't even try this game. I don't care for them, or even dialogue that is too drawn out. I like to spend my time playing, and so I skip most everything like that. If I'm in an MMO I want to play the game with other people, but I don't want to sit there and wait for them to watch the cutscene, or read/listen to the dialogue. I'm not going to complain or make someone else miss out on something they like, so I would just end up playing the game solo. It just boils down to the game isn't for me. Personal preference.
All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.
I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.
I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.
I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.
Only when playing alone. Of course, other BW games are enjoyable as such and this is no different.
When playing with friends, we eventually skipped them so we could actually play together. The cutscnes just felt out-of-place at that point.
Yes, I've read, listened and enjoyed more dialogue in the first 10 levels of this game than I have in the last 10 years of MMO's.
Everything I say is my opinion or personal preference. You may or may not find it useful to your cause but regardless I am entitled to it.
How can you hate something without even trying it. It's not it'll comprimise who you are as a person to jump in a beta test before launch and actually play the game so you can understand what you spend your time on the forums bashing. I also skip all dialogue from every mmo ever and so far have completed loved the story in Tor.

No, some of the cutscenes felt stilted to me. Just threw me off with some of the animations and dialogue.
BOOYAKA!
There are already reports of folks getting kicked from groups though because they didn't hit space fast enough
Joining this game 3 weeks or later after launch is gonna be a pain.
The fact that beta testers are skipping even some of them at this point is an important indicator IMO. It seems that cut scenes will be jumped over by the majority, just as quest text is now, once the shiny has worn off.
Makes you wonder if it was really worth all that work.
The cutscenes are awesome.
When people were saying that they can't play older MMO's anymore I thought it was odd. But honestly, after the cenematic voice acted storyline are you really going to go back to a game in the past or future where you have to read text boxes?
Remember Old School Ultima Online
lol. I am hardly bashing the game, I just don't want to play it. The question was asked and I answered. I even stated at the end it was just personal preference. Why are you so hyped about the game that you can't understand that some people just don't want to play? It will be ok if I don't play, they'll still put the game out for everyone else to enjoy.

Maybe the indicator is thatt it's just not their game? Or that people should join a like minded group and not worry about this nonsense.
I state this here and now, anyone grouping with me will not get that type of pressure and I'll gladly watch and participate in any cut scene/story mission.
Find like minded people and it won't be a problem.
As far as "the majority of beta players", well, I've already started using the ignore feature.

MMOs? Sure. But I could easily just go buy another BW game and get the same experience (without a sub -- no less). Why this style of storytelling needs to be an MMO just confuses me. Why an MMO? How does it encourage the multiplayer aspect in any way? Isn't that what MMOs are all about?
I'm not directing this entirely on you by the way. It's just general questions. I'm very curious.
The storytelling is very enjoyable but... only when I forget it's an MMO. =L
Boring , Boring ... Spacebar ..Spacebar .. ok stfu now.... you annoy me now you whiny pos... spacebar .... SHUT UP!!!!
Thats fine and all but why don't you just play it? It won't hurt you in any way and in the future whenever a forum convo comes up you'll actually have a basis to agree or dispute any claims made.

Well, I was talking about Weasel here tbh... I get the feeling he very much considers this to be 'his' game
I will iterate that people need to find groups/guilds that are similiar to their play style and try to minimize the nonsense.

As I've said from the beginning....the ADD crowd is going to hate this game. If you have no attention span, this is not the game for you.
If all you want from a game is to be able to walk up to an npc and get a quest diepensed to you and then follow a glowing line to your objective whilst drooling into your keyboard......you might want to pass this one up.
However, if you're looking for a game that brings the RPG back to MMORPG, you might actually want to try SWTOR.
Honestly, I thought I would not like them that much, but I was wrong.
Incorrect. My problem is that an attention span is worthless when you're supposed to be playing with other people. And when I do direct my attention to the story content (which I am happy to do so in any single player game), there is no reason to be playing with others.
i think all the people who are so unhappy with the game hyped it up in there heads and expected what its not
Ah, you can all participate in the dialogues together.
In the few months I've been playing, it has never been an issue for any of the groups I have been in.
They look nice although i wonder after how many hours people will get bored and start skipping.
If they dont start skipping then it worked for bioware if they start skipping then it was a bad move for bioware
