So good luck with your "potential"(I'd rather play finished game with 75% less potential than the unfinished game with 100% potential-WAR taught me few lessons.)

I do believe you are aware that BioWare is developing the game, correct?

After 8 hours of SW:TOR, I was sure I definitely wasn't going to buy it. After about 24 hours played... I think I probably will buy it.

As a single-player experience, I'm finding that the cut scenes and companions do improve things enough to make the old formulaic MMO mechanics bearable. I don't think it's something I would play for a long time, but I can see myself getting three months out of it, I suppose.

They better get the bugs cleaned up (I was expecting quite a bit better production quality and polish considering the money spent on this game), but I do think it's more entertaining in the short term than WoW is...and I have been willing to pay a sub fee for WoW in the past (which I play predominantly solo also), so it really wouldn't make much sense to avoid SW:TOR. Some of the classes have abilities and mechanics that are satisfying enough to keep me playing for a bit.

I've been quite surprised by some of the obvious things that were left out or done sloppily in the UI, and the graphics and sound engines really need to be tightened up and fixed.

They've created a fairly compelling and enjoyable interactive movie (as a drop-in replacement for quest text) which makes the "kill 10 rats" gameplay reasonably bearable (breaks it up enough to make it less painful and dull). As long as you aren't super achievement-focused, and can just sit back and enjoy things as they come, the story delivery is quite fun.

Due to the above, however, playing socially and grouping up with friends is even more of a pain in the ass than it was in WoW during the leveling process...and I doubt I would ever halt the smooth and enjoyable single-player experience to do those forced-group quests or instances...and trying to bring friends into your story just seems like a huge pointless waste of time. I can't imagine in this modern genre that we would see an MMORPG with people sitting and shouting for groups for long periods of time, but that's exactly what's happening. Definitely not a community-building design at all.

I chose the 2nd option, although I have nothing against themepark MMO's in general. Im going to wait untill after SWTOR's release and the first reviews before I decide. I didnt play beta because I dont want to spoil a story heavy MMO. Atm Im enjoying Skyrim and also DCUO to play with my friends.

One thing that I realised lately is that I prefer combat that has some twitchbased elements. For this reason I love Skyrim and DCUO's combat and am looking forward to GW2's combat. SWTOR could be interesting for the story, not the combat I think. But I loved KOTOR, so I might enjoy playing through SWTOR once with a smuggler or so (im done with the boring jedi/sith).

i tried it and then quit, i just cant deal with these types of mmos anymore, been playing diablo 3 and anno 2070 to kill the time

  • HomituHomitu Member UncommonPosts: 2,030

I'm too into Skyrim atm to participate in the SW beta.  Maybe my Skyrim spell will wear off by time the next beta event or the open beta comes around, then I'll give it a try.  I do intend to try it before its release, but I don't currently plan on buying it.  I personally can't really get into an MMO knowing I only plan on playing it temporarily.  An MMO is a long term commitment for me :)

I'm 90 hours into Skyrim and I know I'm going to want to play through at least once more.  I also want to replay the Witcher 2 before GW2 comes out.  I played Arkham Asylum just before Skyrim came out, and I would like to play Arkham City as well.  Then there's Diablo 3, which I'm not quite as interested in as the rest of these games, but I have several friends who are ready to go crazy over the game, so I'll definitley have a good time playing that with them for a good while.

Yeah...I'm almost afraid I won't have enough time to play everything I want to play before GW2 is released.

I wasn't planning on getting TOR at all, and the beta just reinforced that.

Same, plus I haven't played Arkham City and a couple of others yet either... Plus the new King Arthur is due soon.

If Lineage 2 dosen't work out for me I will prolly try the new Aion rookie server when 3.0 drops.

All in all, a ton to enjoy while waiting for GW2 :)

What's your point? They also did Dragon Age 1, Mass Effect's 1 and 2, Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Knights of the Old Republic, among many others. They are probably the most qualified game developer in the industry today.

Skyrim, Minecraft, Batman Arkham Asylum + City, My bro just bought me Mass Effect 1 and 2 for an early Christmas present on steam...I don't see myself getting bored until GW2 xD

I replied NO...I won't be playing. Reason...24/7 persistent world realm vs realm conflict  SHOULD BE BUT ISN"T a major part of the game. The game is expensive to buy and in todays economy...not good enough to warrant a subscription fee.

Going to try Lineage 2 with new expansion  this Wednesday.

I voted that I would not try it, but this is based on my beta experiences the last beta weekend. I've wanted a SW MMO that excited me since I first heard about SWG, but alas, I missed out on the golden era of that one, and SW:TOR is not the one for me either. I'll be playing LOTRO, Champions Online, and Skyrim until GW2 comes out, whenever it does.

I can be found on the Eu RP PVE SWTOR servers, there is a lot of story to be lived in the Star Wars universe for me...

Never saw any use in trahing one game over another one.... tough i can allways find a reason to be critical at any one game... even at GW2....

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

didn't try the beta, don't plan on playing it at all.  Out of all of my friends, only one of them is even considering it. After getting hyped about the new ideas in GW2, nobody wants to sub to a old style game.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.

Eh, I'm foregoing the long repsonse I had written, and I'm just going to say, lots of people want to sub to "old style games", but I honestly believe it won't last long in the case of TOR.  Preorders and the so-called positive feedback from almost all testers (reported on the official site no less) aside, I give it 6 months tops before the vast majority of people that were excited about it has either gotten tired of the mechanics of the game or finished all the class stories they were initially interested in.  None of my friends are at all interested in it either, even the Bioware gamer who referred to this game as a "steaming pile of doo doo".

ON TOPIC: From a few things I've heard lately, one in particular that's right on the GW2 wiki that I'm surprised no one picked up on, we won't have to wayt (sic) for ANet's baby for much longer.

I'm not a fan of SW. For me SW was a rather bland sci-fi story that was kind of okay for 70s but nothing special. Then it took Lucas 30 years to realize that he didn't have any new ideas. And now we're stuck with a festering corpse he's constantly trying to bring back to life in one way or another.

    Sorry, I'll pass.

MMORPG genre is dead. Long live MMOCS (Massively Multiplayer Online Cash Shop).

I caught up on all the info I was behind on and tried to get into beta but that didn't pan out. Seeing as I am not playing anything seriousely, I wanted to like it and wanted to get into beta to get my own experience. I mentioned to a friend that I was gonna pass, based on what I have seen and he told me he was in beta and disliked  it himself and had a couple of videos he shared with his guildmates. After watching the vids I am happy to say that the only thing I lost thus far was time looking into the game in the first place. I play MMO's with my spouce so I would have to fork out 2 copies when this game isn't woth the price of 1. Back to gamefly.

I have grown to like games that use a Guild Wars style of skill system, I like what I see from the skill builder so far. Nothing against talent trees, I might have tried TOR if the pvp and features were better but their just not. Game really isnt worth a subscription fee, Guild Wars 2 could probably get a sub fee if they wanted but there isn't one, no brainer. Plus it gives me more time to build my gaming machine, WAS building one in anticipation for World Of Darkness, but since that wont happen am gonna browse the main site for some idea on what the min requirements are, so I can triple that number.

Uh, did we skip "playing both" for some reason?
