Bioware did an excellant job recapturing the bounty hunter feel. The bounty hunter story line is one of my favorites. I am glad to hear that you had fun and that is what playing a video game is all about.
I never got to play a Bounty Hunter, but oncve you get past the story, is there anything you do in game that allows your Bounty Hunter to, you know, find fugitives and stuff? Playing as Smuggler there was nothing, besides the stuff in the Smuggler story, in game that allowed a player to play as a Smuggler. So I am curious. Are their Bounty missions players can take in this game?
I have not played the game, and have zero intentions on doing so, but I can say with all due confidence that there is nothing to do pertaining to any freedom of actions or choice or development of any class in this game outside the strict theme park guidelines set forth by EA...er I mean bioware.

Yup, that's all part of your personal storyline. (Troll harder next time)
Hey, I am asking a question a question here. Is there or isn't there quest or things to do, outside the main character story, that involves being a Bounty Hunter?
Oh, so now they have to be "outside the main character story". Are you going to keep refining your question until you have an excuse to go on a rant about it being a themepark style game? Sorry, your post history gives you away. This game isn't for you, just move on.
Umm..if you read my questio n the first time, it said, "outside" the story. So, have you played a Bounty Hunter? If you have and gotten past the story to the end game, what types of Bounty Hunter quest are there in the game - you know to allow you to be a Bounty Hunter? There were none for the Smuggler class that I could find.
Swtor doesn't have anything as dynamic as that im afraid, the only good points to the game are all wrapped up in the story, without the story its your regular run of the mill mmo with very few surprises. The story is fun however.
EXACTLY...Bioware did what they do best, in fact what they ONLY know how to do, and thats make a great single player RPG. EA basically decided to label it an "MMORPG" and get people to pay a $15 month sub fee for a single player RPG. Best part (for them) is that its going to work. For now at least.
As a classic star wars geek I wasn't about to fly to Balmorra for my next quest... I'm freakin going to Hoth and Tatooine regardless of level! Granted I couldn't quest on these planets but they wet my appetite for release just by visiting them around the space ports. Hoth made me dock at a space station and then take a shuttle to the desolate surface. The Imp station felt like it could very much fit right into ESB.
Tattooinne is pretty near perfect in my book in terms of overall look and feel. Hoth was good once I turned bloom off, but until I did, I could barely see what I was doing.
Both could look even better with more environmental fx and day/night, but running my speeder across the dune sea is pretty sweet as is. I'm glad they gave the mounts a speed boost.
OK, I was just curious to see if maybe there was something different about playing a BH than say an Imperial Agent, or a Smuggler - something that allowed you to play the role you are titled after.
Yeah, that's what the personal stories are all about.
edit: What you are asking is if cars have circle shaped elements to transmit the engine's power in forward or backward motion on a road surface ... OTHER THAN WHEELS!
;-)
No, what she was asking is once the personal story line is over, does the game world actually have Bounty Hunting of other players incorporated into it, or Smuggling of goods from one place to another, you know, sort of like some other famous space title has as part of its gameplay.
It was a good question and I'm glad she asked it, I hadn't thought that far through everything and it appears the answer is pretty much no. While people can follow a story line as a smuggler, bounty hunter or trader, there really aren't any game mechanics that actually accomodate those actions in the game world.

It's a lot like other MMO's.
In Wow, I dont remember saying mass or saving the faithful as a Priest, and I never was lending spiritual help to the downtrodden as a Shaman either. Come to think of it, there arent too many games out there that give those experiences are there?
In saying "aside from the main quest," is like saying "I'll have a cup of coffee, but dont use water to make it." It isnt SWG bounty hunting, but the story does give far more of the given identity to experience than most other themepark titles.

And of course you are free to heal your fellow Republicans (lol that sounds awful) as a healing specced Consular long after the story ends. Or Assassinate them out in the open world as a Sith Assassin, or protect them as a Trooper. Hide them as a Smuggler (group stealth thingie), take them out at range as a Sniper. Etc, etc.
Maybe they'll implement class based dailies at some time though, would be kind of cool actually.

Well, based on the game's design that would be the logical solution to bring to the table. As others noted, it is a standard theme park MMO in its core design therefore it's end game would be more like WOW or Rift and not that "other" space title.

The answer is no, there are no player bounties, there's nothing to smuggle, can't even free fly a ship so I'm not sure how that would even be possible. They have said they are looking into player bounties down the road though..

Just checking.
Actually it is more comparable to a reasoned opinion based off of many articles, blogs, beta impressions, forum posts, and dev diaries about said game. If you think someone cant come to an informed opinion on if a game suits their tastes as obtained from the many mediums of information we have at our fingertips you are sorely mistaken.
Next thing you will be telling people at a restaurant they have never been to before, that they have no idea what they might like or dislike since they havent tried the offerings -- you read the darn description guy and then make a decision...make sense ? i sure hope so.

Actually, it's nowhere near that simple.
I can go to a resturaunt and read the description of a ribeye steak.....and it might sound fantastic. But as it turns out the chef is a moron, and ruins the meat.
And vice versa......the steak might come to me and change my life, it's so damn good.

I'm sorry, if all you have to gauge your opinion on is heresay, then no it's not a well informed opinion. Just like reading a description tells you nothing of how a dish actually tastes for better or worse...
A write up can give you an idea, but considering tastes differ, different combinations can create a uniqueness; you've yet to experience, add to that the fact that there are so many different impressions to read from, who's to say what Is accurate unless you try it for yourself?

Do you mean in actual mechanics? In the story, you are actually hunting bounties as would be expected. The twists and turns in the story line while doing bounty hunting is what makes the character's story fun. There is some divergence in later mission goals based on dialogue selected (similiar to flashpoints). The game holds your hand for the first few levels.
Yes I knwo there story arc for the Bounty Hunter, but past that, what in game mechanics allow you to play as a Bounty Hunter? Are there missions at end game that send you after people?
I don't think it has dynamic quests like the ones you (and I) desire. They really should add...assassin hits..bounty hunter marks and smuggler (get object/person from point a to point b ) type dynamic /truly random quests. Even if they have to just add a few non-repeatable quests each week in weekly updates for each class that involve their chosen speciality. No whole setup...it could be a holocall with new info or a message in the mailbox with a new job. After they're done they're done. Very little repeats of targets .At the least have a bounty board for hunters like SWG. then you go randomly capture/kill whoever (they really should have a subdue option for wanted dead or alive bounties) on whatever planet...They could just make it a new mob each day. One of the pre-existing mobs..maybe steroided up for that mission(if they can do this..phasing maybe?). No voice acting is even needed..though it would be nice (just use the same guy in a holocall for everyone even). With something basic like this for every class so you can still feel like an agent ..assassin etc even after your storyline is in hiatus.(I'm assuming expansions will add more story)
Thank you to the OP for an honest opinion not full of rage and hate. So many responses (good or bad) have had such a negative tone, and I appreciate the truths you explained.
I second everything you stated and more. You can't please everyone, this is very true, but you can please the majority.
I do feel the majority of MMO gamers will enjoy this game, and this game has the potential to put an extreme hurting on the WoW population. There are so many aspects of this game that are superior to WoW. Sorry for comparing everything to WoW, but when you are the big kid on the mountain it just works out that way.
Star Wars fans should enjoy this game nicely. The music was typical Star Wars, and the sound effects were amazing... Spot On! I was hooked right at the opening credits after you pick your class... "A Long Time Ago... etc... BOOM -- STAR WARS IN YOUR FACE!" It gets me every time I hear the John Williams opening track. Makes me feel like a kid all over again!

Hahah! Yes! How dare you ask if there is anything to do in this "MMORPG" than quest or play hutball!
A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.

I'll be generous.
I do believe that people are capable of doing pretty much what you said, but as evidenced by what you have said, I think it's pretty obvious that you arent one of those people. No shame in that.
Ever hear the adage: "The true test of a man's intelligence is to the degree to which he agrees with you."? It sure seems like that's exactly what you've done, sought out opinions that happen to agree with you, and to validate what you are feeling, even if those opinions arent based on fact. See the problem with your train of thought here? If the people you are relying on arent basing their opinion on facts, how sound is yours, and why should any take, value, or listen seriously to where you are coming from?
As far as taste, fair enough, I've always said games arent for everyone, and you should play something that suits you. However some of the more amusing claims, like it being really a single player RPG instead of an MMO could not be farther from the truth, but...to each his own. I definitely respect someone not liking it for what it is, but to dislike something for a perception that isnt accurate sounds more than a little foolish.

To say I sought out people who agree with me is a bit of a stretch...unless you think biowares own assessment of story driven gameplay is where you are steering your ship. The fact the game uses extensive cut scenes, and loads of voice acting akin to their DA and ME titles, is not a result of me desperately seeking out those who agree with me, rather it is based off of factual data that relates to gameplay. I think you are trying far too hard to come across as witty and clever.

Uhm...no. I'm not anywhere near sold on this title, but this is plain factually wrong. BioWare was making SWTOR long before EA purchased the company. It was always going to be an MMO. Now yes, EA probably saw in BioWare a budding Blizzard cash cow and hoped to get in on the ground floor by buying the BW. But the purchase happened well into the development cycle of SWTOR.

But that's what the personal story is for, BH for BH stuff and Agent for Agent stuff and so on. I dont quite follow, are you asking for some special bounty hunter tailored dailies or what?
Oh and yeah, looking at your post history, since you've already made up your mind, why dont you simply let go? Just makes you look like some grumpy old hag stalking at an opportunity to bite. Dont cling to stuff that you dont like, improves the quality of life, if not much, at least a bit.

I have been in many MMO betas. Most of the time I don't even want to login because I know that my character will be wiped.
This time I can't stop playing even knowing my character will be wiped.
In fact, I'm lierally pissed I am going to have to wait 2+ weeks to play again.
This has never happened to me from playing a beta. But I can tell you, I will be playing this game for years. And so will millions of other people.
(and yes I'm an old sandbox mmo player who wasnt especially excited about the game)

Maybe they'll implement class based dailies at some time though, would be kind of cool actually.
My brand new bloggity blog.

OP i think your on to something.
My guild and I, mainly all about 30 or older all EQ1 vets, are moving into SW:TOR on Dec 15, yeah we preordered early. See you there
Actually, it's nowhere near that simple.
I can go to a resturaunt and read the description of a ribeye steak.....and it might sound fantastic. But as it turns out the chef is a moron, and ruins the meat.
And vice versa......the steak might come to me and change my life, it's so damn good.
The only way I will know for sure, is to try it.

Title should be: they got it eh for this old timer.
Because "this" old timer, me, thinks it's a C effort at best. I think Episode 1 > SWtOR just because the pod race felt less on tracks than this game.
I used to play MMOs like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee.
Thumbs up again to the OP.
Hahah!
The features in this game are hardly "old timey"
This isn't a knock on the game, just stating a fact, such as the sky is blue.
I'm sorry, I just wanted to check...in the post just before this, arent you the guy who said he had not played and had no intention of playing? So basically your opinion you are sharing here is based on pretty much nothing other than hot air, and we should take it for what it is?
Just checking.

I love this respone you nailed it.
