I watched the video with my wife and she told me to tell you she loved your hair as did I. The video though did nothing so far to show us that we want to play this game. Let's hope your future videos give us some reasons to play.

@Pokket - you did not look like you were reading anything off of cards.

@precious328 - I think Light Sabers might show up at another point in the list. Running around with a light saber is entirely too much fun. God help the world if they ever invest those things in the real world. People will be missing legs everywhere.

Much of the video is from Tatooinne, where you go at around 25th-ish level.  And yep, it's wide open.  The Dune Sea especially is a huge expanse with very few untraversable areas.  You REALLY NEED a speeder, at that point...

There is a danger these vids can come across as shill pieces, thats all... I am NOT saying that's what you are, honestly, I am just saying balance in the pros and cons will remove the accusations before they even start.

Giving reasons not to play, when according to your particular tastes there either aren't any, or aren't any substantial ones, isn't "balanced," it's nonsensical.

Does trying to convince people to try a game seriously offend you?

If the title of the article is 'Top Ten Reasons To Play', then it makes sense that there would be ten things about the game that are likely reasons for people to want to play the game.

I think posting on these forums sometimes is like being pecked to death by small chickens. I applaud anyone brave enough to present any article here at all.

    You are very beautiful pokket.

For your reasons they were really well done and the pvp area sounds very fun especially if someone in your faction is making you angry and dueling them is not enough.

I got my spaceship in beta and went to several planets. I am not sure how far you got, but the Sith starting planet is quite small compared to Dromund Kaas, and the world sizes start to progress along with your character. So they open up and become larger (they just need to be given some life imo).

No, thats not it at all.  Yes, its Star Wars but there's more to it than that, its not just any Star Wars its The Old Repbulic, follow on from Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2, by BioWare, the maker of the first of the two previous games, and KotoR was thee most successful Star Wars game ever made to date, search for the top 10 best Star Wars games by google search if you don't believe me, see how often it comes up in the top 5 of that list let alone any of the other 5!.  This isn't just Star Wars, its Star Wars The old Republic by BioWare which most of us have been waiting for, for more than 3 years!

    It does not.

    lvl 1-10 (aproximately) 1st planet
    lvl 11-20 (aproximately) 2nd planet
    Etc.
Depends on how many side quests you want to take and equip. So give or take 3-5 levels.

It even shows you what lvl ranges are recommended - on galactic map you get access to when you finish the main storyline on 2nd planet.
No choice. Just 1 planet for your lvl.
No reason to go back and re-discover something. No reason to go to newbie area and help newbies while doing your quest. (Something free games manage - for example Runes of Magic)

    ================

    ~10 reasons not to play?

Mediocre in every aspect except voiceovers. No innovation. Solid, but NO innovation.

Almost complete lack of customisation of your char (compared to other 2008-2011 games). Heads are too similar. Only 2 bodytypes that look sane etc.

Their choice of cartoony graphics is a thing you either accept or not. I did not mind it much, but some horrible examples of NPC models (duckfaces, anorectic imperial soldiers, fake moustaches) might turn you off.

Choices during quests do not really matter. The only visible outcome is the ability to use dark/light items. If you want to go neutral or just happen to become so by choosing answers you like, good luck finding good equip after a while.

Overpovered sidekicks can turn this into Massively Singleplayer Online Game. If you have friends/guild you can avoid this.

The hyped "high quality quests" are nothing like that. They are solid, but nowhere near the promissed epic quality. And of course your favourite kill x of y and fedex sidequests are still in.

3D sound virtualy non existant. Hard to tell if something is happening next to you, behind you... I've played free games that did this right. With budget probably 100x lower than Bioware's. Only 1 area really simulated it well. Unfortunatelly it was a small room I only visited once for a quest.

Talent trees are boring and not trees at all. It's just a bunch of additional skills randomly assigned to 3 baskets.

Skill choices? Nah, just level up and buy all new skills/upgrades you can.

Complete lack of death penalty makes it absurdly easy/ridiculous to finish group (Heroic) quests. If you die, just resurrect, go to nearest shop, repair your equip, enter the instance again and continue from the point where you died.

Unballanced quest/instance bosses. I would like them to be challenging, but some will be completely tough monsters and some are on par with tougher trash mobs on world map.

Complete lack of customisation of UserInterface. It's 2001, games have movable and resizeable UI elements. This feels like designers were frozen in time 10 years ago.
Add lack of sensible default chat channels (lfg, help, trade)

If you are a bored WoW fan that does not mind mediocrity and does not hate Starwars world/lore, you will probably enjoy.

And immaturity of big part of promo weekend test players might be a factor too, if the same percentage of rabbit fanboi, meme shouting kids (chuck noriss messages for 10minutes? check. Your momma "jokes" for 20 minutes? check) makes it to retail.

How many planets are there to explore approximately outside of the starter faction planets?

Are there any that can't be explored due to faction?

I'm an explorer type so this was actually one of my largest unanswered questions.

Oh, and does the Dark Side really have cookies?

Found this game to be highly disappointing , and deeply underwhelming. I seriously doubt it has any longevity.
  • SojhinSojhin Member UncommonPosts: 226

Swtor is style without substance which mirrors the op's nonobjective review.

Having leveled two classes to max level (SI & BH) the game has many elements that are standard to the AAA mmo industry (e.g., combat, questing, and crafting are equal to or better than wow and rift).  Dodging the character creation, ship combat, and pvp complaints, I focus on the real problem of swtor.

The problem is the story that the game really revolves around and is what the typical gamer will experience (i.e., typical gamer based on industry standards will not likely reach max level).  Objectively based reviews have diagnosed the stories problem as an identity crisis; the game cannot decide if it is a "sporpg" or a mmorpg (i.e., single player online role playing game vs. massively multiplayer online...etc).

This role confusion is biowares attempt to change the mmo industry.  The problem with this is that the role-playing elements are more akin to narrow tracking then a full range of variables.  This range of options is what I contend made prior bioware games successful. Swtor instead is more apparition of choice and this fault I believe will in the long term (max level) cause the game to give up the ghost.

Alll u have to do to figure out the worlds get bigger then the starter zones is gasp leave the starter worlds.  Koriban by the way is the smallest of the starter worlds.

the graphics in tor look amazing on your own comp at least they did mine.

Plus this is the 10 reasons they are gonna play tor. Since she is gonna play tor why would she give u 10 reasons not to play when its obvious pokeett loves tor.

OH and the planets after dromund kass and coruscant get even bigger. Tatooine they say is the size of 8-9 wow zones or the equivalent of all of norhtrend in size,.

You can visit the other starter planet of your faction if you feel like exploring. No story/quest reason to do so tho.

Max lvl 50. Every planet is good for aproximatelly 10 lvls IIRC.
And you will want to take some sidequests and do a bit of grinding because vendors on those planets sell equip that is useless (higher lvl required) if you don't.
On the other hand the game was pretty easy so you can enter higher lvl areas and not worry much about dieing. Especially after getting and equipping your sidekick. And with a good player group the probability of dieing diminishes even further. Unless you go for Heroics which - sometimes - finaly offer a challenge.

I don't remember the numbers presented on galactic map so I can't give better info.

If you mean dark-side-lighting cooked wookies, then most probably yes.

    P.S.
Lvl 14. Being able to RUN. Explorer type will love it.

Still have zero interest in the game.

The video doesnt do justice to the graphics to be fair. While not cutting edge i think theyre still very good. Take a look at some of quickshots HD videos on youtube to get an idea of how good the graphics can be.

Thanks for the upload pokket , always good to hear your opinion anyway.

Greatness is difficult to appreciate from close up. The great mountain on the horizon is only the ground when you are standing on it.
