"you bitter Sandbox MMO gamers" made me laugh.

    I'm playing WoT and Minecraft.

And Second Life, but that's another story.

Where does Asheron's Call and Darkfall come in? If anything, it would be standard themepark + Rift + one continent of Lineage II's castle siege system.

From what I could gather, the game is a themepark to max level that has a class making system similair to Rift as you choose 3 skillsets. And the only thing making it a sandbox is the 3rd continent. One thing people aren't understanding is quested gear is just as good as crafted gear making the crafting situational at best, like most themeparks. That alone is a huge turnoff for me.

Similar to Asherons Call and Darkfall, ArcheAge has FFA PvP after 1-20 anywhere you go, even in cities if you can avoid the guards.  Asherons Calls skill system is somewhat similar to ArcheAge as well while Darkfalls skill system is a complete disaster and one of the reasons the game has failed miserably.

ArcheAge is in fact more sandbox then both Asherons Call and Darkfall.  In ArcheAge you can do real world effects to the environment like cut down/place plants/trees that physically change the world. You can dig holes (im guessing for fun and treasures), create houses anyway you choose (in a designated area as of now on starter continents, 3rd continent might be more free), create farms, cattle farms, flower beds, fences around your property, all free to design by you.  Asherons Call and Darkfall have all preset features that give you the illusion of a sandbox in terms of actually making real world changes.

According to developer interviews, crafting is still somewhat in the air but Jake Song, the creator of ArcheAge has stated many times that he wants player crafting to have a major impact on the servers economy.  With the new labor point system they have, this is the main emphasis of why he wants it to be done for that reason.  The labor point system ensures a healthy economy and requires more team effort and trade and eliminates "mule accounts" like in Asherons Call.  Items that drop from monsters in AA will not be upgradeable and only crafted items will be upgradeable.  There are also rumors of a salvage system similar to Asherons Call.

Houses can be built on the first 2 continents but with limited slots to influence 3rd continent building.  One can build on islands as well as shown in CBT3.

Also first 2 starter continents have FFA PvP without penalty unless you kill your own faction on your races continent (unless you are a pirate and have no faction aka TRUE PKer!)

Id like to also state that Darkfall is lacking in sandbox castle sieges.  Obviously everyone knows that their siege system was a complete disaster and most people would simply "boost" over walls as if they were no there so siege equipment was never used.  Darkfall also had pre-built city plans so players had completely no sandbox freedom to make a city/town the way they wanted.  They would simply grind months to get resources to see buildings come up by themselves with no influence.

As for Droppable Items.  ArcheAge has recently implemented droppable resources/special items/siege stones in the form of a backpack.  These items can be taken from players if another player so chooses.  Also in order to build castles/houses etc. one is required to get one of these crates full of resources and slowly transfer them to the castle/house or continent they wish to build on.

    Any other comparisions you need?

Just wanted to put this out there, but skyrim is not a sandbox unless you are playing on a PC with the ability to mod it. Otherwise it's a theme park rpg. Since it offers the same amount of freedom that a theme park MMO like WoW does at level 85

Mostly playing Skyrim now with some Vanguard every now and then. Still on the fence about if I'll play SWtoR or not...

My opinion, Archage is a Sandpark not so much a sandbox. It's up there with sand parks like SWG.

It's not a themepark (or linear) its technically an Open ended RPG where you can tackle any activity in the game world in any order.

You can't do this in a themepark (Or linear game).

    Skyrim/Fallout 3 = Open-ended RPG     Minecraft/Terraria = Sandbox RPG

Dragon Age 2/ Final Fantasy = Linear RPG

    Playing: Nothing

    Looking forward to: Nothing

    Skyrim, Minecraft, Terraria.

There are no MMOs that appeal to me at this point in time.

Still can't let skyrim go. I found that if you take things easy and don't fast travel a lot you enjoy the game much more. The world is still amazing me and throwing new stuff at me after 170+ hours.

Even though I prefer sandboxes I'm looking forward to Swtor though. So I guess I don't qualify as a "bitter sandbox mmo gamer".

    Battlefield 3...

Until one of the premuim MMORPG's come out (ArcheAge, Everquest Next, or PlanetSide2). Most people who who play Sandbox games, typically do not pay for "other" mmos while they wait. Oldschool MMORPG players simply work, or do sporting events before they will belittle themselves to consume their time with some triter F2P game... that has zero redeeming qualities.

Sandbox players wait for sanboxes... not hard to understand our need for quality. Why give someone $ to play a themepark..?

I honestly hope SOE raises the bar again, & that EQ Next has a premium subscription ($25/month) and shows this younger gen what a premium MMORPG is. Because Since WoW, having a dynamic world with GM's is long forgetten.

I think right now I'm playing a mix between some EVE Online  (only really skilling up right now because I know better not to PvP right now)... League of Legends.... as a good MOBA, Fallen Earth (I'm a huge hardcore post apocalyptic setting fan please give me a good sandbox mmo), and Global Agenda as a decent fps mmo.

So what are you guys playing?

No MMORPG at the minute cause after playing Lotro and it's change into freemium model (I was playing since p2p times, then playig for few months after freemium shift) I got bored of themepark model once and for all I think.

At first I was thinking that this is me beign burned out on mmorpg's maybe, but I was playing Swtor beta half-a-year after I dropped Lotro and I was getting same "damn this game is limiting, on rails, and same old same old, even though dialogues are good idea" so I don't think that is me beign burned out. Especially that I want to play some mmoprg.

Thing is there is nothing on the market atm.

Non-cookie-cutter mmorpg's are either: indie slow developed and feature-less and sometiems also f2p and I cannot stand this model anymore (been playing few f2p mmorpg's) in mmorpg.

Ofc there is EvE online, but this is very specific game. Really flying a spaceship was never my thing.

    So not playing mmoprg atm.

Just playing some old single player / myltiplayer games + Skyrim.

Waiting for ArcheAge for my long-term mmorpg fix.

Maybe will try out GW2 out of curiosiy of b2p model and it's diffrent design even though it is themepark so I might not play it much or for long.

Oh right now I'm playing the old standby of "answer the question posted in a thread with an antagonistic and baiting title" image

Just joshing with you, but in all honesty that title might get mod editied.

Anyway since the last sandbox game I felt deserved that title was Shadowbane which has been gone some years now, and have played many themepark games since, I'm not sure I could define myself as a bitter sandbox player. That said though I have to admit that neither SWTOR nor The Secret World hold my interest due to my feelings that their basic themepark elements will bring down the quality of what exciting and different features those two MMOs do bring to the table.

That said, all I am playing of late is the brilliant Oblivion mod MorroBlivion, as nothing else out there really appeals. I'd be playing Skyrim and Serious Sam 3 but since both games put a gun to your head and force you to sign up to Steam even if you bought a retail box copy, I'm sticking to my priciples and telling both companies to suck the death pipe.

Wow, I'm interested... (not in WoW of cou rse lol)

You guys mentioned some pretty cool games. I really love Minecraft! I just wish there was a MMORPG feel to it or a server that allowed us to have a cool MMORPG element to it. ...yes with FFAPvP and Griefing. I don't have the full version though and I was wondering if any of you that play Minecraft full version feel its worth buying the whole game?

I guess I feel these days that in the brink of Sandbox MMOs kinda dead right n ow I feel that it won't be too l ong until someone answers our prayers. I guess I have bvut I am VERY picky about my MMOs. I want that right sense of immersion.

I'm kinda looking forward to the Fallout MMO even if its not going to be a Sandbox MMO but one can only pray and hope.

So yeah hows Minecraft Full version? Well worth it?

UO free shards, EQ free shards, Mount & Blade: Warband, Skyrim. I'd rather be playing a live MMO.

Rofl, I had this image of a person who plays in sandboxes being offered a free ticket to Great Adventure and he turned his nose up at it as he wouldn't belittle himself by going to such a place with so little freedom.

Me, I'd be in the sandbox and the ticket to Great Adventure would be a nice alternative for a day so I can enjoy some quick fast rollercoaster goodness all the while knowing I can come back to my sandbox any old time I want to.

Skyrim. I don't mind the bugs as long as the gameplay is actually fun and immersive.

And the backwards flying dragon is actually pretty hilarious when you first see it.

Enter a whole new realm of challenge and adventure.
