I keep hearing that you consider yourself intelligent, and it sound like you are.  However, if you are so smart (and I don't mean this as an insult), you should easily understand that your location could be affecting your "progress".  Perhaps you should move to a place where the women aren't so judgmental (the south?).  Lower your expectations with women, and stop trying to find the "hottest" ones.  It's common sense, the hottest women will want the hottest guys, usually.  And from what you've described, you aren't the hottest guy.  You've done your best, and that's commendable.  But it's time to find happiness.

You need to do some soul searching.  Figure out what you want in life, and analyze what others want in you.  And work towards obtaining the things you want (not just material possessions, but levels of character as well), and strive to be the "person" that the "good" types of girls would want.  Trust me, if you're not finding Miss Right, it's probably because the ones you're finding are shallow as hell.  They might be hot, but their own character needs alot of help.

It's hard to be happy, alone.  And money doesn't bring in happiness either, I can promise you.  I speak from experience.  I grew up poor as shit all my life.  And just recently, over the past couple of years, have become "rich".  All of that money will eventually bring you every possession that you could ever dream of, and it has for me.  But I can see that soon, there wll be no place for the money to go.  And I see myself getting bored as hell.

I look to my family (wife and kids) to bring my happiness.  I feel I'm "okay" in the dad and husband category, but I know there's ALOT of room for improvement.  See?  I set goals.  It's quite simple.  You're a smart guy.  Stay out of the bars, and stay off drugs, and work on finding that happiness in yourself.  Live your life working towards that, and people (women in particular) will see that, and be driven to you.  The GOOD women.  Good luck man.  And never, never give up.

You don't have to choose either or. Escaping into mmo isn't good for anyone and it shouldn't be ur solution. As mmobro said maybe split some time between mmo and the gym. Currently I'm working 9-5:30, go to the boxing gym for about an hour two to three times a week, and on the days I don't go to the gym I'll spend time playing mmo games either online or console with my friends.

You can have anything you want, but you just have to put your mind into it and work hard.

And you wonder why women don't want to be around you.

If only it was as easy as women not wanting to be around me.  That would be better, at least it would make sense and more would be right with the world.

If that's your problem, then wake up.

As intelligent as you claim to be, you should be perfectly capable of noticing that this world is a fucked up place. There is very little about it that is just, or fair or "right".

You can't do much to change the way things are, what you can do is change the way you react to it.

Tired of hooking up with girls easy enough to fall for such a trick? Stop picking up chicks in bars. Find a social situation to meet women in that isn't one night stand territory, drop the corny pickup lines, and the quality of the people you meet WILL go up.

Its your life, and we have little place judging how you choose to live it, but let me just say this. Escape is failure. at life, at purpose, at whatever meaningful goals you may have once had. MMOs are a diversion, at their absolute best they are a poor substitute for experiences you are perfectly capable of having in the real world (in terms of mental enjoyment, not the literal events) Even if you do choose to escape into them, how long do you think you can last like that? Humans are social creatures by nature, and the enjoyment gained from a video game is fleeting.

I feel you on the girls man they suck, well most of them. What's funny is that if you have money, you can be the biggest turd ever and still get girls. I went to a football game and sat in box seats one time and you'd be surprised some of the guys who had gorgeous girlfriends. They all were fat, balding, or both. And not trying to be a downer here but I can tell you what won't solve your problem, posting about it on an MMO forum.

Hey if that's how you feel, you could just live on benefits for the rest of your life, and just play MMOs, the only problem is that playing so much MMOs is pretty bad because the game will instead of being an enjoyable hobby will become a addiction, you'll start to ignore keeping healthy by eating a lot of junk food, surely you link up with your friends from time to time.

Do what I did and just declare celibacy.  You'd be surprised how many of your internal psychological issues just disappear when you are suddenly free from the disease that is the drive for female approval.

As for the economic bit, that's something everyone has to live with.  There is no such thing as upward mobility in this modern day feudal society, those fairy tales that people learn from movies about advancing from nothing to everything are just that: myths.

I've been out of MMOs for awhile.  Haven't played since early WoW in college.  I've been trying to make it on my own.  Get the money, get the bitches, enjoy live, that's the goal.  But sometimes I feel like I've capped out in upper middle class mediocrity.

The truth is, I'm smart but have a fucked up body.  Its all messed up from birth, and it leads to a mediocrity socially and with women.  Good enough to want to do better, bad enough to wonder if its worth trying.  Sometimes I feel like just escaping into an MMO.  Give up on doing well in live and just put in my 9-5 and make MMOs my life.  I'm the best in MMOs, I'm always second best IRL.    And second best sucks IRL, its an expoential function for rewards.

I know the high from MMOs isn't close to the highs IRL, but I wonder how many IRL highs I can really look forward too.  Why bother?  Should I just give up?

If this post is legitimate the real problem is your attitude and perception of women.

Learn some respect ,stop referring to them as " bitches " and stop being so materialistic .

With your attitude you won't meet anyone decent and frankly you don't deserve to .

Your story brought back an old memory.  BTW, I am 60.  I still play computer games, but dont have time for mmo's now.  I stick with games like Tribes Ascend and BF3, get in, scream FUCK most of the time getting killed and get out.

Anyways, many years ago, I was selling my UO account on EBAY (It was when you could) and was contacted by this person to buy it.  I was asking like $600.00 or something.  We got to talking and eventually, even talked on the phone.

I asked him, why he wanted my account (It was very personal for me, many hours were spent developing my characters).

He said "Because it makes me feel alive"  WHAT?

Well, come to find out, he has been in a wheel chair since childhood and would never walk. Riding horses, fighting MOBS and meeting people in the towns and walking around made him feel normal.  I felt so bad for him, that I sold the account for $300.00, hoping that this little jester of mine would help him out.

    DAMMIT.....I am going to cry

So, some of you people that mock the OP should maybe look at things from a different perspective.

Assuming the OP gave us an accurate description of himself and his life (that is a big assumption, but we might as well discuss what we are presented with), we are talking about a fully functional adult, one who is more capable of living the life he chooses than most of the people on this board. Hell, 80-90% of the world's population don't have the same level of available resources in terms of both wealth and personal capability.

The fellow in the wheelchair needs legitimate help to reach out into the world, so far as I am aware, the OP's only real obstacle is his own approach to life, his physical problems obviously haven't slowed him down one bit. Forgive me for not being particularly sympathetic.

Yes you should give up  .. and get into planking. It really helps

edit: okay i just read the rest of what you wrote. so i deleted my long and thoughtful post. basically you have to help yourself. If you aren't satisfied with how you look, maybe you need to go work out to get a body you are proud of. If its other things then maybe that won't be able to help you. but i was always told "if you don't help yourself, no one can help you."

I understand what you are saying, but due to his physical appearance, the frustration from constant rejection does and will affect him for years to come. Now, that doesnt mean he gives up, it just really takes a toll on his outlook on life.

Some people turn to religion, some people turn to crime and some people just regress into their own little world. His world maybe mmorpg's.  Whatever makes him feel good and doesnt hurt anyone, I say go for it, but never give up.

i didn't know games could do that to people. sometimes people really get immersed into games or even movies. they had an article about how people on forums said they wanted to suicide after wanted Avatar because it was so realistic they didn't want to go back to "Earth" or their real lives. Theres always a positive and negative side to everything. What you posted is the positive side to games.
