Officially yes, but in reality the second they opened their servers for service the game launched.
How can the majority answer though when they've yet to experience the launch? The actual launch is playing the game most of us are still doing what we were doing last week, waiting to experience the launch. In my case waiting to experience the week or two after launch. Most of us are purely tailgaters at this point. It's like asking the guy sitting on his lawn chair sipping a brew, what's going on inside the stadium, all he can see is what's being reported on. Which is hardly a gauge to judge the overall functionality of the game.

When the door to the stadium opens even if you are still waiting at the back of the line the door has opened and you can have an opinion of how many doors/lines there should be to get in. Also if they are not wiping the servers then the game has launched. This is not practice or pre-game. What is earned during this time is part of the main event.
Based on the comments by players over on the official forums you'd think they would be greatful the game is even launching...nope, not in the least. If I was as angry with a game company as these people appear to be, I'd cancel my order. Here is the thing though, like the companions in SW:ToR, no matter how badly you treat them or how different they are from you with the choices you make - they'll stick by your side. Bioware knows the people are not going to "not" play and no amount of whining is going to change how Bioware is handling their launch, which in my opinion is awesome. Less people fighting over MOB's, hardly any lag - that is great. I give Bioware a 10 for this. Best way to launch a game.

First I didn't pre-order, many haven't so we would still be waiting outside regardless of how this portion is going. There hasn't been much reported on from within the game (if it has it's being drowned out by the over-abundance of threads about waiting). I have no opinion of something I opted out of, I view headstarts as being rather redundant, especially in this case. My guild is already established, we have our name, server placement, allies and enemies set in stone. I'd much prefer to jump in when my entire guild can.
Second we obviously operate on different wave lengths, you think you can judge something based on here-say, indifference ( my opinion of headstart), and theorycrafting. I don't.
All that matters to me about launch is how the game is performing, the playing experience is all that is important IMO. The mood in the parking lot, is the last thing I'm going to judge a video-game based on.

The pre-order launch itself has been operating flawlessly in my experience. No lag, no downtime, no bugs... No queues yet. You'd think the game was already a year old. Part of the reason for that is the staggered launch method they are using so they don't spike users too fast! Which is the same method they announced all the way back in July, so there are absolutely no surprises there. If you didn't get in as fast as you wanted, you only have yourself to blame.. I'm a bit disgusted by how the community has responded personally.

Look on the bright side, the game is insanely popular.
I was in the day 1 launch. I worked untill 5pm but as soon as I got home I played for 6 hours completing all quests on Ord. I had no lag (with my dated PC= core 2 duo + 9800gt) MOBS respawned quickly and grouping on my server was easy. Overall I would say great launch. Sorry Great Headstart Launch

I can base the launch off of standing the line. It is not hearsay. I pre-ordered so I am standing outside in line. Part, a big part, is how the lines work. Ques, staggered entry, etc are all part of the launch.
The game ran EXTREMELY smooth last night. Same client...same build as my beta client (I didn't re-download), yet my performance was spectacular. Loading was fast, as was said earlier, the respawn timers were perfect.

Which is only a hinderance while you're standing in line, right? Once you're in, you're in, if you don't have to deal with queues because of their decision, would or would it not be a better experience? Compared to seeing server crashes, massive lag, over-run spawn areas, login crashes, server time-outs, major graphical glitches due to server stress, etc?
The real question is is how will it go on the 20th? Will it be more waiting? WIll they open the floodgates? That is what matters most about launch, as that will show what the actual launch experience is going to be. There is a difference between head-start, and launch.

Can we get a more definitive anwer to that last poll question?
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
but you miss the point this is launch. It is like a basketball game you get tickets to but they tell the people that bought first they can see the first period and you get to come in during the 2nd period. I can judge them off of that decision also. Yes at 2nd period there is going to be a flood of people coming in getting into seats causing problems at bathrooms and concession stands, but the game is already going. Whether you are outside with a ticket, waiting to buy a ticket, or just watching from across the street all can judge how it is going based of what they see from their point of view.
I could make the most techinically flaws less game that lets millions log in with no errors, ques, or server crashes, but if the way I sell or let the people into the game sucks due to a business practice my launch is sucks.

It must really burn your breaches that I am here on a gaming websites forums discussing...wait for it..."MMO's". Sorry if that isn't to your liking, but this website is here to discuss MMO's and that doesn't mean we're forced to discuss only the ones we're interested in or the ones we have issues with, but all MMO's. SW:ToR fits into the catagory...until then I'll talk, discuss and debate the nature, the issues and things related to these games. I do not require your permission, nor your approval. If you do not like what I have to say, you are free to put me on ignore. There you go. Oh and have a nice day.

Voting cause I'm first.. Meh..
PM before you report at least or you could just block.
The game launches on the 20th.
Officially yes, but in reality the second they opened their servers for service the game launched.
Srsly, WTF is that SW:TOR ppl keep telling me about?
MMORPG genre is dead. Long live MMOCS (Massively Multiplayer Online Cash Shop).
I'll let you know when I get in. Haven't heard anyone that is in now coming here to voice complaints so must be good. That's just a guess though.
Well, considering that EGA starts tomorrow and I will be playing tomorrow (most likely everyone) I'd say A+

Where's my waffles?
Hm, at best, only those who got in should vote.
Most likely, those who got in are playing the game.
The rest of us are sitting here, debating how appropriate or not it is to be left out for ''the greater good''
If they manage to invite everyone else tomorrow, we all get 5 days early access and Bioware deserves an A+
Sure, it's painful to wait on the bench, but what the heck, let's just be glad for those who are already in

While not quitting the game this launch has left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I will be less forgiving of the game for its flaws due to that.
your last line is the worst pep talk ever.
So far, flawless.

Got in the first day and it's been perfect so far. Not one crash, lag spike or bug.
Look on the bright side, the game is insanely popular.

Again, unreal performance so far.
