every korean mmorpg ive tested in the last year and a half is nothing more then a poor mans linage 2.rose isnt to bad at this point the level of "engrish" and mindless repedity kills it.

Rakion looks pretty good. Korean games have graphics but many of the ones not in english are extremely better than the ones that are not translated. Tantra for one was good graphics but way to simple gameplay.
*edit*
Found this in Rakion website:
Is Rakion MMORPG (mass multiplayer online role playing game?
No, Rakion is not a MMORPG. We have limited the number of players per room to create a fast and intense game. Although Rakion has few MMORPG concepts, such as level & equipments, Rakion is an Online Action Game. However, players can summon creatures to increase the number on their team for a full scale battles seen in MMORPGs..
*snif* *snif* do I smell a Phantasy Star Online like game?
I played in the Beta for Lineage 2. I thought it had fantastic writing, very good character model-art and animations, but poor quality game-play. It was extremely repetitive gameplay that got boring after less than 16 (of its 50?) levels. That is a sure sign of a poor game. It was entertaining for a week or two so of play though (trying different characters), which is more than is true for some non-MMOG games I buy.
I think the art quality that goes into games like CoH and Everquest 2 is lacking compared to these Korean-developed games. I like seeing the stylized heroic models that are sexy-looking, and use spells and attacks that are also stylistic, like a martial arts. Notable exceptions are Guild Wars and World of Warcraft which are both heroically stylistic in their appearances.
Korea does not have the "problem" we have in america where publishers demand that their titles all receive then TEEN rating for American and European markets. Everquest 2, especially, seems to have taken the overly conservative approach to character and clothing models such that the visual differences between male and female models are actaully unrealisitcally too similar. i.e. female waists are slimmer and they have covered-up breasts, but the rest of the body shape is not correct and looks almost like a thin male's would.
Is there some supersite that lists all these MMORPGs that I'm not aware of?
Do they have english version of those games?
Lineage 2 is a masterpiece. I think it's the first game of its sort that truly captured the spirit of massive clan warfare that I have yet to see in other games.
However I have to also say it's too heavy... Heavy in the sense of intensity, time consumed and brutal rule implementation.

I just do normal brosing in korean mmorpg sites (i have to get them translated). I wish there was a supersite list though
The bulk of Korean mmo's are based on the leaders in the Korean MMO market, Ragnarok Online and Lineage 2. Based on those two games it is obvious why they are bland and repetative. The thing is the market is going to change in the upcoming year with Ragnarok Online 2. Many of you guys don't like Ragnarok Online mainly since its too old, and was only brought to america for its record numbers in Asia. RO2 however should prove to be good considering the company publishing it is worth over 100 million, based on that fact many more korean mmo's would copy what RO2 has done and incorporate it into thier mmo's.
Also there ae several Korean MMO's no one has played because there is no english translation that are pretty good. If you do some searching and learn Korean I am sure you can find some good ones.
God Last chaos looks like an awesome game was looking at some of their screenshots...has mad graphics...It has a english site but its mostly just explaining the story of the game and a movie of it...I want to try it...but I can't understand it .
It's true there are a few good Korean MMORPG games, but most of them are exactly that, just bland copies of high income games (and bad copies at that)
I have found a few before that were worth trying, after hours of trying to figure out how to play them, but the lack of english kind of puts the quest system down the drain, which loses most of the fun

It would be more appropriate to say Blizzard kick them out (for wrong reasons IMO). Blizzard is not a nice company when it come to humans relations.
But yes, ArenaNet own Blizzard anyday!

The reason that a lot of Korean mmorpgs seem to be similar is that those type of games actually sell and gets played a lot even when they're practically same engine with different designs. It's aimed at their market and as long as it works, they'll keep making those.
Another reason I can think of that there are SO many of those same-playing games and still they do so well would be the market. The gaming market for Koreans is huge... the ratio of online gamers to the population of the country compared to western countries is not even funny. When you see like 3 servers for a game on the US side for ppl from all over the world that can speak English, there are 13 servers on the Korean side for Koreans only. Enough said. So I guess in the end they spread out to all these "different" games to satisfy their need whlie not being crammed all in one place.
One other thing to notice is the abundance of community sites in Korea. Almost everyone that owns a computer has their own site that belong to a certain popular community sites such as cyworld, freechal, etc. with avatar and such, and they pay real money just to make their avatar look prettier and their website look cooler with music, animation, etc. so I guess paying monthly for mmorpg is like nothing to them.
There ARE a lot of mmorpgs that have different ideas of course... but some are restricted to the 'community game site' that's Korean-only or some have so much Korean culture references that non-Koreans would have hard time understanding some of the stuff, or some (even though it's pretty innovative) are developed by a small company, so it's hard for them to make it international.
Why do you think SO many of good Japanese games never make it to US and we are so oblivious about it? They determine what would do good in the international market or not by themselves (oh, us poor poor customers! We don't get much say to it!) and since they know certain ones are doing well they just keep exporting those kinds...... I guess it's all about connection.
I do wish that more of the not-so-well-known companies would get international break.
(oh in case you're wondering I'm born Korean living in Canada but please don't ask me to translate all the games >_<)
*edit* One thing I REALLY wish is for games that decide to go global to get a translator who is actually fluent in English, instead of just being able to use Babelfish -_- and also, I wouldn't say Bout is mmorpg. It's more like a msn gaming zone type thing where you can either pvp or do quests that lasts for maybe 15 min. each session, but it's a really cool game.
Well no american game is in the 10 million subscriber range. I think its safe to say they have a larger community then the US. On gameplay, the games are pretty cheesy; but coming out of Korea in the next 3 years are games that put Worlds of Warcraft to shame.
Well looks like relaxing fun, compared to the hardcore mmorpgs. then something like that looks like fun, or takeing a break.
A place where you make a char or whatever, just for the heck of it. i only have one problem.
I DONT SPEAK OR READ THAT LANGUAGE
------ Playing MMO's since my first which was Ultima online, then Anarchy online. and so on.. Now a days im very critical before i ewen bother downloading a Free to play mmo.

The quality of the games will have to improve greatly before they are in the same league as many American games. I doubt we'll see that for many years to come.

Most of the really cool Korean MMORPGs need KSSNs, because they ain't translated yet.
That sucks.
But ROSE online is an awesome, awesome game. Its like Priston Tale meets Ragnarok, only not crap.
www.navyfield.com
Extremely interesting concept based on navy battle. Its a triple cross between action, RTS, and MMORPG. Its free too, so try it out.
I think it's the objective of your past self to make you cringe.
