That still looks nothing like the OP's screenshot which is stylistically very similar to Tanaris, WoW - right down to the pink bats, and ochre-coloured walled settlement in the background.
Anyway, I still don't understand the unmbrage. Why are you guys so damn defensive?
And why are you so hell bent on making people see something that is not there? people don't see the similarities between Tanaris and Tatooine..you made your point..you tried but it didn't work..move on?
Something that isnt there? You mean Huge Megalithic bones in a desert surrounded by flying creatures? Nope no resembalnce there at all lol. Yes this is my toon whisper me on Zederok on the Warriors of the Shadow if you dont believe me, and if you do not see the glaring similarities of that screenshot with something that could of easily been taken in Tanaris then you need to have your eyes checked my friends. Besides I am not dissing the game at all I meant this is a rather tongue in cheek post in the first place.
You are clearly a troll. You must surely realize that Blizzard has been influenced by just about everything pop culture right? It has thousands of parodies in its game, some in the form of zones others in the form of quests, items, jokes etc.
Burning Steppes, some would say LOL MORDOR RIP OFF. Yet i bet you, if LoTRO was only releasing now, and it had Mordor on launch, somebody would go and make an ignorant comment on how it looks just like the Burning Steppes.
Having said that you must also be aware that just about everyone has been influenced by another persons work for thousands of years. They become influenced by something, and expand on it or take it in a direction the original author didn't. The fact is, Star Wars came out in the 70's. Tanaris was influenced by Tatooine. What you're trying to say is that now Star Wars has another MMO (lets keep in mind SWG had Tatooine too, which due to the bad graphics should look more like Tanaris in your eyes) that it should make its desert planet look less like a desert? How do you do that without taking away the characteristics of its famous planet? Make it a hidden oasis? That would go down a treat.

No one is trying hard to find anything. The similarities are clear as crystal; the picture speaks for itself.
If anything you are perceiving attacks when there is none.
Umbrage..? Because I said /threadover that means that I'm upset or suspicious and resentful of you...? Methinks you're reading a little too much into it all.

The universe never ceases to amaze me. By the looks of it, one of SWG's many accomplishments was that it had managed to clone WOW before WOW was even launched. :P

Sorry, shouldn't have quoted you for the larger part of my post. Or I should have made it clearer that I wasn't speaking to anyone in particular. And I disagree; I think he skirted the issue. But we'll leave it at that.

Skirted the 'issue'. What issue that people refuse to see the similarities and that deserts and bones sticking out of sand was depicted long time ago in movies and SWG itself? what is the issue here? so to solve the issue we should all just agree with you to end this useless discussion?
How many servers SWTOR will launch with on release?
ShredderSE - Umm how many do they need? Maybe 6. US, EU, Asian, France, German and Russian. Subs will be so low there is no need for more Snoocky-How many servers? The first 3 months a lot...after that 2 i guess, one for PVE and 1 for PVP...
Thorbrand - SWTOR doesn't have longevity at all. Might be one of the shortest lived MMOs.

On the contrary, I think he nailed it dead on. I played WoW for a long time and enjoyed my time there, but there isn't really any arguing the fact that Blizzard is the Microsoft of MMOs. They didn't really have a whole lot of original ideas. Instead, they cherry-picked from several previous games and wrapped it up in a package, just like MS did with Windows. Now, every other MMO that comes out, especially theme-park types, have people rushing to the forums to proclaim how they are too much like WoW.
Both games have a desert. Whoopie...
OMG there are large dead animals in the desert! Not exactly new territory here.
Except that you are in Tatooine. Or at least .. the guy who actually made the screenshot would know that. I doubt its you, op
No its me. This is the same exact thing you see in Tanaris. Huge Skeleton laying around in the sun baked desert surrounded by flying creatures. You could go to Tanaris and ALT + Z both UI's and you would be hard pressed to tell them apart.
Except that WoWs looks like crap and SWTOR is based on Tatooine lore from the books / movies.

There were a couple of other references while doing quests on Tatoine that reminded me a lot of WOW. Can't really be a coincidence. Although the fanbois here seem to think so ...
I don't think Khopshef looks remotely like Tat or Tanaris or Shimmersand or what-have-you.
This is what I am talking about; a desert, yes but stylistially realised in a different manner. I will search for screenshots.
They are all deserts but the quality of the graphics is different and I did look for a pic with skeletons but no go, though I played enough of AOC to know they exist. The OP's case is a very weak criticism I'm a afraid and like quite a few criticism thread is just plucking at straws IMO.

So they should have pulled out probably the most iconic planet in the Star Wars universe because it was to much like World of Warcraft?
Or...
Was World of Warcraft a Star Wars Galaxies a clone because Tanaris was a Tatooine clone?
Hey you might be onto something there the names are very similar. WoW is a SW clone wey hey we've gone full circle

However i did play on a similar locking planet in KOTOR already which came out before WOW and since SWOTOR game is based on KOTOR i really do not think claiming it cloned WOW (at least for this desert area here) makes any sense at all it more seems like yet another attempt to start a war between fanboys and haters a rather stupid one as well to be honest since the point the OP was trying to make was wrong to begin with.
Lets be honest here there may be some points worth copying from WOW but with a huge Lore of Starwars and countless Star Wars games/Movies/Comics/Books released till now i doubt anyone could honestly believe this game needs to copy the areas from WOW nor would they be able to find anything worth copying which they couldnt find in any of there books/games/movies/comis at least as good
