I'll send the Lead Developer an email & let him know validation email system is down.
Thanks bro.
I got in today. I'm sure it has fanboys who are going to feel insulted by the following review, but this is what I experienced in my first 3-4 hours of playing:
I spawned at the noob area. There were dudes with golden exclamation marks everywhere. Quest-NPCs. When I accept the quests, the exclamation marks turn into questionmarks. Grey, if they quest isn't completed, golden if it is completed. Seems familiar but let's not mock someone for using a well-proven intuitional interface.
The quests I got were: Kill 10 snails, bring me snail houses of 10 snails, kill 6 ants & 3 flying ants, pick 10 tomatoes, level from 16 STR to 17 STR & grind your healing skill (done by clicking at your health bar a few hundred times.) I did that, against better knowledge. It took hours. Click the snail/ant/boar/whatever, stand next to it, wait. Every now and then, use a healing pot. Seems oddly familiar but let's see what else this has to offer..
I went to check the tavern and global chat. Couldn't find anyone who was socializing. Or doing anything else than grinding. Nobody on the fields either (there's a farm everyone can harvest on or whatever. Didn't look too exciting).
Then I got more quests, collect eggs from cave bugs or something, and kill about 1000 cave bugs. Alright, I even went into said cave. Against better knowledge...
There were two people in that cave slaying cave bugs. They invited me to their group. I'm like "oh, finally someone to talk to" cause I was getting bored. Bored, sad, and disappointed. One of them was clearly a noob, the other one seemed a little more experienced.
I asked them if there was anything else to do or if this was just an online Diablo-clone. The experienced guy said "It's like UO". Sigh. (Okay so it's going to be one of those conversations...) I asked if there was anything else to do. "Not in the beginning." Errrr. Ok. I asked them if there was any player-made content to be seen. "This is the game itself. We are killing bugs so we can get money." I told him, that's the same thing you do in World of Warcraft. His comeback: "World of Warcraft is much grindier than that." Man, self-deception is such an art. He then proceeded to tell me that we aren't grinding stats, but grinding skills, and that that's much sandboxier. I don't get the difference. Maybe I'm not hardcore enough.
You can buy your own realms with real money, apparently. Then people can grind away their time in your dungeon. Maybe I'm utterly wrong. Maybe there is some kind of content if you invest 1000 hours into grinding first, but so far this looks like just another grinder.

It would be great if someone could offer an invite. I really like UO and this seems like an interesting game to try.
