i wanted to see a game that didn't force me to join a guild of wingnuts at the end of the game just so i could see the inside of a cool dungeon and get that dagger of doom.
i wanted to be myself. to play my way. to have some fun when meeting people. i wanted to go back to the time when you'd meet someone in the middle of nowhere and feel comfortable saying, "hi - have you seen a big green beastie around here? i'm supposed to be killing it." and having that guy say, "sure - it's over here. want some help?" and i'd be able to say (remember this?) "awesome! thanks for that! very kind of you." and feel genuinely pleased to meet someone without automatically snarling at them to keep them from coming near my lootz.

ummm he said he played gw1 several times over the years....and was not impressed since much the the game gw2 is saying it will be is at the core gw still I think its a rather valid question. But again game isnt out yet and when the beta preorder stuff goes out again like it did for gw orignal you can just drop 5 down at gamestop and play it....I did that with gw and was rather let down and went back to coh till wow came out....Dont get me wrong there were a few cool things about gw I have admired but I just dont think it deserves all the hype it gets...
When are people going to realise that GW2 is not the same as GW when it comes to game design.Do you enjoy full blown mmos like WOW or lotro.Forget everything you know about the gw1 game design because thats not how GW2 has been made.
Rest assured, Blizzard will find a way to steal any good ideas GW2 comes up with. Hell they already did with the roll mechanic for their Wrath of the Panda King expansion.
EDIT: Before anyone says GW2 didn't invent rolling or dodging, I know. Calm down. The idea will, however, be used by other MMO companies now that it's become a popular mechanic.
I don't see Blizz stealing the idea of replacing quests with dynamic events, at least not for Wow. It really will take too much work.
The mists on the other hand is probably comming to a Wow server near you 6 months after release, that is what happened to Arenas afters the first GWs launch.
And I sure as "#¤% don't see them replacing raids with huge open world fights or drop the focus on items. Never.

Agreed, Magic use to have some really great artists on it. For some reason did they not have as good artists for the P&P RPGs...
I like the art style as well, with some excpetions (Asuras mainly). But taste differs.
As for AION, that is hard to say. The games aren't that much alike.

There is a lot (A LOT) of innovation to GW2's mechanics. To you it might look like 1000 other MMOs, but it will play like none of them.

It isn't asian looking, Your opinion if it looks goofy, GW2 was never suppose to look or act realistic, what the market needs is a few great sword and sorcery MMOs. The other 1000s are mostly crap so they do not count.

Well, there certainly are things in GW2 you haven't seen in other games. It's not Asian, nor goofy. It's fantasy, so it's not realistic, but if you're only into Sci-fi and hate Fantasy then you shouldn't even bother visiting this forum because it IS a Fantasy game. If you want nothing to do with that, then stick to EVE or Star Wars or whatever you're into.

Do you want that we should wield kittens? Kittens are realistic. Should we have a world that looks exactly like podunk Alabama? Or should it be space weapons? Kittens with lasers maybe? Or maybe ANet should scrap this whole project and make it so realistic that there is friendly fire and you have to pull down your pants and poo after ingesting too many potions. Maybe even hit the "T" key to sleep for hours so you get a rested bonus. I didn't know Asia spread across to North America. I'm misinformed. This game doesn't have only swords. I think you can use multiple weapons. You obviously did a lot of thinking before posting. And as far as this market needing a game like this, well first you need to look at the market trends and what people are buying. Are they buying Rift, WoW, TOR, Aion, etc.? Hmm, I'd like to think so. But of course I'd only base what I see on facts, realistic statistics. Can you name the thousand MMO's that have the same game mechanics as this new game? I've pointed out the reasons I thought GW1 was terrible in many threads before. I don't deny it sold copies, but do you want me to list all the problems I had with it again? Here are a few:
1) Invisible walls EVERYWHERE. You can't even jump a small fence.
2) In fact, you can't jump at all!?!?! This game engine was a major step back in functionality even for the time.
3) One of the worst implemented cameras in the history of gaming. If you were on a small incline, it was literally impossible to lift the camera up enough to see in the distance
4) Default key bindings and mouse settings just screamed "I have no clue how to develop a game engine"
5) All instances no virtual world at all
6) Lifeless environments
7) Very limited abilities that made combat and PVP overly simplistic

Bethesda makes really good game engines...oh wait. For it's time GW 1 was a very good game. Runs smoothly for most, pretty darn good graphics, stability, and at the end of the day, longevity. It's free. I guess you people refuse to watch interviews and the countless hours of gameplay footage, plus the peoples thoughts that have played the game. I haven't played TOR so I can't comment about the RPG elements. It is possible that there are different games with different qualities. Maybe even some different games bring different innovation. That's a surprise. I jest.

Thats funny, I don't remember any Bioware games that had thousands of players playing with you. Please clue me in on that one pal. Not sure how many single player or small group RPG's you've played before, but the good ones always had a chorus of "Why couldn't we just play this with our friends" and now Bioware has pulled this off in a pretty slick way.

And as for RPG pedigree I've even got a $5 copy of Baldurs Gate 2 freshly installed on my hard drive of my brand spanking new PC (every PC I've ever owned I've put a copy of it on there). Just like everyone was raving over the overly generic star wars the old warcraft. This is just the next "big but generic" mmo coming out. When it comes time for Pso2's release I bet it won't be as popular, alot of the mmo players introed thru wow don't even know what PSO is. Generic themeparks like wow, rift, swtor and the upcoming gw2 are dying out slowly, people are getting sick of the same game in a new wrapper. I haven't played a mmo in a while, they just aren't intersting like they used to be.
Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:
A. Proven right (if something bad happens)
or
B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)
gw 1 was beautiful. it didnt have the extremely memorable character design or whatever... i mean its not nearly simillar as warcraft orcs for example.
the style was functional, not annoying etc.

SWTOR is a very revolutionary RPG. It is not a revolutionary MMO. Read more carefully...

I read it perfectly fine. Again, it is not and hasn't been for years. It's the same RPG type that Bioware has been releasing since before WoW. Maybe you should brush up on your RPG history before telling other people what to do.
I've pointed out the reasons I thought GW1 was terrible in many threads before. I don't deny it sold copies, but do you want me to list all the problems I had with it again? Here are a few:
1) Invisible walls EVERYWHERE. You can't even jump a small fence.
2) In fact, you can't jump at all!?!?! This game engine was a major step back in functionality even for the time.
3) One of the worst implemented cameras in the history of gaming. If you were on a small incline, it was literally impossible to lift the camera up enough to see in the distance
4) Default key bindings and mouse settings just screamed "I have no clue how to develop a game engine"
5) All instances no virtual world at all
6) Lifeless environments
7) Very limited abilities that made combat and PVP overly simplistic
Need I go on? And not sure why everybody shouts "troll" so frequently here. Is everybody so sensitive they can't take criticism of their favorite game?

Bethesda makes really good game engines...oh wait. For it's time GW 1 was a very good game. Runs smoothly for most, pretty darn good graphics, stability, and at the end of the day, longevity. It's free. I guess you people refuse to watch interviews and the countless hours of gameplay footage, plus the peoples thoughts that have played the game. I haven't played TOR so I can't comment about the RPG elements. It is possible that there are different games with different qualities. Maybe even some different games bring different innovation. That's a surprise. I jest.
Thats funny, I don't remember any Bioware games that had thousands of players playing with you. Please clue me in on that one pal. Not sure how many single player or small group RPG's you've played before, but the good ones always had a chorus of "Why couldn't we just play this with our friends" and now Bioware has pulled this off in a pretty slick way.
And if you want to compare gaming knowledge, I've been playing games since pong. Literally. And as for RPG pedigree I've even got a $5 copy of Baldurs Gate 2 freshly installed on my hard drive of my brand spanking new PC (every PC I've ever owned I've put a copy of it on there). I think I know a little bit about gaming kiddo.

Just like everyone was raving over the overly generic star wars the old warcraft. This is just the next "big but generic" mmo coming out. When it comes time for Pso2's release I bet it won't be as popular, alot of the mmo players introed thru wow don't even know what PSO is. Generic themeparks like wow, rift, swtor and the upcoming gw2 are dying out slowly, people are getting sick of the same game in a new wrapper. I haven't played a mmo in a while, they just aren't intersting like they used to be.
Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:
A. Proven right (if something bad happens)
or
B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)
Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!
gw 1 was beautiful. it didnt have the extremely memorable character design or whatever... i mean its not nearly simillar as warcraft orcs for example.
the style was functional, not annoying etc.
gw 2 seems like its going to be following the same thing... tho id say some of the races look retarded and not fitting.
hmm lets take swtor as a comparison... im huge star wars fan, but swtor style just looks awful. the game has dated graphics also.... and yet people still go for it...
come to think of it - there arent many mmos that have that distinctive 'holy crap' thing going.
