I tried Eve online and Shadowbane. I might give EvE online another try only if i buy someones account or something i dont want to start all over again. I just wish games wouldnt take so long to come out.

I just started out in EvE and to me it seems like the perfect time to do so. I remember when playing WoW I'd often think to myself "Damn.... If I could just wait three years to start playing, the game would be far more polished and complete", and I can have that now with EvE. The game seems to be really taking off and there are a ton of my co-noobs playing.
The thing that ruined WoW for me (and a lot of people) was the PvP system, and EvE's system looks awesome to me in contrast. You kill someone; you gain something. You die; you feel it. You want revenge? Get it, or pay someone to get it on your behalf. Also, your actions and decisions have long term consequences.
I'd rather start from scratch anyhow... You could buy someone's account and have an uber ship and fittings and you wouldn't have a clue how to use them them to their best potential or how to progress from there.
if pvp is all your really after, planetside, neocron or world of warcraft (has very good ganking)...... lineage 2 also has ffa pvp but i mean it doesnt take any skill or anything not too good........
Okay, a lot of people have mentioned quite a few games so i will give my opinions on all these.
Eve Online:
Only played this for an hour but found this game to not be for me at all, forget your conventional mmo games, this is you in a spaceship and that is pretty much it. Combat for me, feels lacking because of this but if you don't mind doing everything through a spaceship, then you will probably like it, download the free trial off fileplanet.
Guild Wars:
PvP is top notch in here but it isn't open pvp far as i know and you do your pvp through arenas and guild vs guild matches. It has a sort of FPS feel to the pvp i found. The actual game i found to be boring and the quests to be very lacking and the overall experience to be annoying. You see, everytime you go out of a town, you have your own instance which is fully populated by monsters, so it is very tough to quest and travel without walking into the same bunch of monsters everytime you go out and into an instance.
WW2 Online:
This is an mmofps game and is pretty decent but if your looking for instant pvp fixes then i wouldn't recommend this. I spent around 5 hours playing this, saw about 4 infantry troops to kill, about 2 tanks and quite a few planes. Killed one infantry troop, got killed by plane bombers quite often and killed by one of the tanks. Also if you can't get transport, it is a bloody pain to travel as walking takes ages.
Planetside:
Same as WW2 really apart from i found it way too complex and the place is so big, it is increasingly difficult to find battles. I can't comment too much due to me only spending 30 minutes on the trial and then giving up as i found it too complex and the tutorial (training missions,) was not only bugged but very S-L-O-W paced.
EQ2:
None existant as of the moment but the main EQ2 crowd play for pve and the developers even said that the game is mainly focused on pve so don't get your hopes up there.
CoH:
Played before the pvp update but found myself disapointed with the overall game and the whole hero thing loses it's novely after rescuing some poor old granny from level 3 muggers for the 1000th time. Great character creation though.
SWG:
Can't comment about how leveling is after CU but the PvP is GREAT in this game. Most of the towns and so forth are player created and if they put imperial or rebel bases down, you can go destory them. If you like star wars, i would definately recommend this game as the combat emphasis, is all on Imp vs Reb and you will LOVE it. Unfortunately though now, a lot of people are jedi knights and most classes don't stand a chance against them and the leveling was extremely grindy and you spend most of your time killing the same thing over and over and over and over again.
WoW:
My favourite MMO game because i absolutely adore the combat system. The main game emphasis is on PvP and overall is a lovely lovely game and you can raid towns and such but you can't do any real damage so nothing siege like. The battlegrounds though, are truly unique and offer a fantastic experience. I would recommend this game for sure but expect to get ganked ALOT.
FFXI:
Very limited PvP here and is basically a capture the flag system but i only spent a few hours on this as i found it to be the most boring MMO game i have ever played.
MxO:
Found the combat system to not be to my liking, the interlock system, made it difficult to take on multiple enemies and you find most enemies are in groups. The PvP i would say is pretty good on hostile servers but no arenas, battlegrounds or sieges.
I can't really comment on any other game as i havn't played but i have heard some very promising things about both DAoC and Shadowbane, also DnL is supposed to be very PvP orientated.
can anyone elaborate as to why the pvp in eve is so good, i mean when i played it i didnt seem the type of game where the pvp would be so huge, it doesnt seem like it would take much skill or be all that fun..?
Basically Shadowbane is AWSOME PVP but the PvE Blows so much balls. Planetside Neocron and Worldwar2 are PVP FPS types. WoW has the most pointless and boring PVP ever. Eve is the most OPEN PVP u can kill anyone in any 0.0 security zone and Pirate them, Kill Space stations and big big Coorporation Wars, it is the most OPEN and has the potential to have some of the BIGGEST most intence battles of any PVP game. guild Wars is very limited to Instanced zones. Doac i havent played but i herd has an Awsome System that is very open and intence.
Roma Victor sounds like it could have the potential to overthrow all of these, besides eve maybe. its a Real time combat MMO having to do with Rome. sounds like its one giant PVP Clan War game. could be awsome. or it could suck.
Guild wars is the most overated game i have heard (with the possible exception of CoH.) What is so good about the pvp? It definately does not constitute as a MMO IMHO. You can get to Level 1 to 20 in a few days easily and the endgame is basically pvp orientated and nothing else and i didn't really find the combat system to be fun and alls you did for pve is spam your highest damage moves constantly unless your trying to counterattack something.
Still the future of PvP in games looks very bright considering the success of both Guild Wars and World of Warcraft.

You can disregard my post but at least i was honest and i gave my honest opinions of my first experiences with it, however after all you eve online fanboys here saying good things about it, i am probably going to give the game another try .

I have played eve over 4 months, and yeah just restarted playing it. And indeed combat (once fitted) lacks some in depth strategy. At least they are changing it a bit, you have to love the missile revamp. And at least he honestly state that he only played it 1 hour. And he already knew it wasn't for him. Eve Online is nice for pvp. It is fully open and you can blown up everywhere, yeah even in 1.0 security.
For me the best PvP Game so far is L2 on the same level. Why? Open PvP, and a penalty when you just pk someone (Karma). Second one up is Eve, also because the open PvP and you get a security hit when you shoot at someone in high security space (if not in war). And you will be forced to move to low security systems when your security level drops to low.

I hear ya, but it's not really possible to give a respectable review of any MMO after just an hour of playing, and since EvE is such a "slow-burning" game, that applies tenfold.
I tried the game out twice before, very briefly, and frankly hated it but this time around I'm starting to realise I just didn't "get" it. The community is the best I've ever seen in an MMO and the new tutorial helped ease the learning curve a lot too.
Have to agree with the post above. An huor... huh?
I've been playing other mmo's for year and a half but now I'm getting back to EVE as I have found out that there's no better mmo for me and one of the reasons is that sweet PvP. So yes, EVE is my choice on this matter.
GvG - Guild vs Guild, hands down, Shadowbane. What the game lacks in eye candy, is more than madeup for in game play. No one single game comes even close to Shadowbane in guild vs guild warfare, and I mean all out warfare. Not this capture the target crap like DAoC, WoW and L2 have, you make your citys, you fortify them, you defend what you build, you destroy what others create. This game revolves around warfare... no quests here, build it, protect it, destroy it.

I would have to say either EVE Online, Shadowbane or Guild Wars.
Definetly Guild Wars is the best PvP game

- Zaxx
I hope some day we can all put aside our racisms and prejudices and just laugh at people
Runescape, definately Runescape, the best pvp out there.......yeah right...
