WoW ~ Its a fun game but from a pvp perspective its about as deep as a rain puddle. There is absolutly no skill involved just mindless clicking. Now mind you that mindless clicking can be fun from time to time, I still keep an active account and play sporadically but Its pretty poor pvp to be brutally honest. Battlegrounds is just pretty much a mindnumbing experiece where you get rewarded for doing practically nothing. Also not being able to talk trash to your opponent is honestly lame. ( for the record, Hunter + Melee spec as your ranged damage is enough on its own, + alchemy = Damn near untouchable in PVP )
DAOC ~ Daoc has pretty decent pvp, the problem is they removed one of the primary reasons to bother. You cannot speak to, or even know the name of the person you are pvping..its just Realm attacker, or Realm defender bs. Quite honestly I want to talk smack during the fight and daoc takes this away..so the point of PVP? there is none.
EvE ~ It ended up not being my flavor of game overall but it honestly has the best PVP as far as freedom goes of any current generation game. The game will require you to actually think, so if that scares you dont pick it up. Its not a button masher, you will need to use the mass between your ears and plan ahead of time when you want to go into the father out areas, your skill sets and how you equip your ship will make a big difference as well.
EQ2 ~ none to date, and I would not expect it to be worthwhile.
FFXI ~ While the opinions thus far have basically been of the mind of the game was too complex which is absurd it simply requires more then two brain cells to operate. The pvp in it honestly blows, I loved ffxi and I will say the pvp blows. Level and gear and class meant everything, I know this well as I could walk into a ballista event with my monk who had gear beyond what most any other monk that level had and just dominate with it, walk in with my whm or summoner and would just get my ass creamed.
Lin2 ~ you tried it you already know..More level grind unbalanced bs.
Shadowbane ~ Such potential...such a shame Ubisoft managed to screw it up by pushing wolfpack to rush the release. It had good pvp in early beta, unfortunatlly it degenerated into the level grindy unbalanced mess it is by release. There honestly is little difference between SB and Lin2 outside the siege system.
UO ~ Still the best on freeshards..forget EA too much crap in it now. The downsides are very dated graphics but if you are looking for the best overall experience in pvp that is skill on skill, the Pre T2a shards are your best bet. I will not recommend any official shard until they make at least one old school server which will never happen.

I don't post on these forums but when I read this I had to say something because I can't figure out why you would think for a second SB and L2 are similar to one another.
Shadowbane:
You have the ability to customize your characters ability pts (str, dex, int etc..), and skills with only a certain amount of skill points from lvl 10 to whatever the lvl cap is now allows players to create something different from other people with the same class.
PvP When you die in shadowbane people can loot your inventory (something that should be in every pvp mmo IMHO.)
City building and sieging you get to build your own city control merchants what the craft etc etc and destroy other player towns.
Mines you get to fight other guilds over mines.
lvl grind lol i couldn't believe you said sb was a grind it takes like a week to hit the cap dude not even the casual gamer can be right up there with the hardcore... shadowbane is all about pvp not pve
it's been awhile since I've played SB it's just to old imho.
Lineage 2:
By far the worst mmo I've ever played
No ability to customize your character other than tattoos everyone is the same the only difference in L2 is gear and lvl.
PvP the worst pvp system ever first of all you lose xp when you die in pvp making most ppl not want to pvp without everyone they can get to fight with them online. Their purple flag system and karma system is retarted I cant tell you how many times people wouldn't flag because they didn't outnumber my guild 3:1.
Sieging the best thing in l2 just because of the open pvp so basically you get to grind for a week and then siege on the weekend for 2hrs or whatever it is OH BOY! what fun..
lvl grind 75 - 4-5months wiht perma party playing basically 24/7
L2 does not can not compare to SB.

LOL L2's new advertisement is wonderful..... Take a step back in time and relive the original Lineage II experience as it was in the beginning. I played both, I was referring exclusively to how the combat system worked, not implying anything in regards to graphics or character customization. I played SB from beta through the first 30 days of release, during that time frame what i described was exactly how the game was, If the game has changed as dramatically as you say it has where the grind is essentially removed I would actually consider reactivating my account just to see. I could very well be wrong but I have rarly seen a game change their mechanics that much from release. I could easily change my opinion of SB if this is the case, as I said I felt it had massive potential to be a great pvp game despite the levels.
Yes Lin2 was a far worse grind then quite honestly any game on the market, You wont hear me say much of anything nice about lin2 ever. Again I was referring strictly to the mechanics of PVP combat, and from that perspective both are a level grindy unbalanced PVP mess.

I just hate L2 and Loved SB only big problem SB had was the exploits early on not sure if they still exist. Every mmo is unbalanced when it comes to pvp tho but i still disagree with you they do not compare in any way L2 has the worst pvp its carebear, shadowbane is open pvp no penalties and you get the victims inventory they don't compare. I'm not flaming you or anything I'm flaming L2 the game is terrible. sb is not a lvl/item based game its more strategic. the lvl doesnt matetr cause you can reach the cap so fast and items dont give you a game breaking advantage like L2.

No worries, it is possible my info is out of date. I do not disagree Lin2 is a horrid game. I will prob reactivate my SB account here soonish just to check it out, if they basically eliminated the grind that honestly was my major complaint as i liked to reroll characters. By the way I was not implying they were the same, just simliar from a mechanics standpoint. not referring to looting and other crap.
Really all the MMO's are ok for PVP it just depends on what you like and want to play. however i sujest dont go to WoW or GW for pvp, in both games the PVP is pointless and boring.
Eve may be slow yes and it is NOT a game for everybody, but for those who like it it is an awsome game especially for pvp. Shadowbane i herd is AWSOME Pvp but the PvE lacks so if u can get past that id try this game as well. and so i hear Daoc is still runing rather well and has one of the best systems, however when i played i laged for some reson, it was video lag even though my comp r0x. so i couldent play but i cant discredit the game just cause of that.
Yea your prolly right about all those games... i heard WoW is going to get better soon though. Also i played DAoC the other day and it really didnt lag for me.... so i would have to say that the best PvP game online right now would have to be Shadowbane (being a mini version of dark and light) and DAoC..... to bad shadowbane is underpopulated
In my opinion, Guild Wars is the best Pvp game. It requres skill, especially in calsses like the mesmer, where you have to guess what the enemy is going to do next, and keep an eye on your allies. I am having a blast PvPing in GW. Also, I think the instancingworks for GW. Also, when you PvP, you get faction points, so you can unlock skills, items, armor, and runes. That is the point of PvP; also, when you GvG, you can control the Hall of Heroes.
I tried PvP for the full trial period 6 months ago or so, but I was never absorbed into the game. Traveling took forever, and mining was really boring. It seemed I was traveling the vast expanses of space by myself. I never really got to the Pvp, so I cannot say anything about that.
As for WoW's PvP, it is just mindless ganking, but it can be fun sometimes. I really prefer GW over it, though.
I have heard really good things about DAoC PvP, so I guess they must be doing things right with their PvP. But I heard that yuou have to be lvl 50 to start PvPing, and that takes awhile.
I have nothing good to say about L2's PvP......
As for the gamesw on the horizion, the one with the most promise to me is Roma Eterna. Now lets see if they can fufill there promisies and actually bring out a good game.
Eve is good pvp but not if you intend to solo. It is a real big requirment you join a corp if you want to live. Ships cost money and if you dont have the financial support of a corp then you will spend very little time pvping and alot of time replacing your ship (unless you stick to frigates but then noone else will and you will end up buying alot of those.)
Originally posted by Senden Okay, a lot of people have mentioned quite a few games so i will give my opinions on all these.
Eve Online: Only played this for an hour but found this game to not be for me at all, forget your conventional mmo games, this is you in a spaceship and that is pretty much it. Combat for me, feels lacking because of this but if you don't mind doing everything through a spaceship, then you will probably like it, download the free trial off fileplanet.
Please? 1 hour? My vote def goes to Eve online.. For the record, I've been playing this game for more than 1 hour and I still like it
"If you win; you gain something. If you lose; you feel it."
This is so right..Ive been playing for only a month and I have been in a few fights myself. Not only is the PvP intense, there is always a purpose to it. Im going to break down the PvP like this, to show you how many different possibilities there are to it:
A) Pirating. When you get your skills raised you can if you so choose to become a "pirate". This is by far the most enjoyable way in eve to make money Why mine when you can take someone elses shit? And if you happen to be on the reciving side of a pirate you can always get revenge by posting a bounty on the pirate.
Corp Wars. Join a corp, fight for space and respect. Place a station and defend it, or attack an enemy's corp station. There are so many possibiltys to this I will not list them all.
C) Bounty Hunting. Visit a station and see the list of bountys put up for people..you can get quick money like this.. usually these are put up by large corps who get ganked by a pirate gang who ended up taking all of the corps materials it took them all day to get. So you go hunt down pirates; Kill them and automaticly get the reward in your bank account.
On and on it goes. I used to hate eve..but my friend made me stick with it for as long as i could and I could not be any happier with the game.
Shadowbane has the best PvP on the market without a doubt. Anyone that thinks otherwise should be ignored. Sieging, group warface, dueling, an insanly large list of class/race strength and weaknesses - it does matter what you make who you fight. The amount of skill and teamwork required to succeed is a very significant factor. I haven't found any other game to rival it.
What greater tribute to free will than the power to question the highest of authority? What greater display of loyalty than blind faith? What greater gift than free will? What greater love than loyalty?

Just an FYI, most guilds have perfected the lvling method can can get you to R7 in 2-3 days now. So make finding a guild a priority.

pvp in eve online ? ... gank gank gank personally im hate idea - wait in safe spot 2 hours in gang for one crazy atack or waiting on gate for any noob...
Originally posted by Senden Guild wars is the most overated game i have heard (with the possible exception of CoH.) What is so good about the pvp? It definately does not constitute as a MMO IMHO. You can get to Level 1 to 20 in a few days easily and the endgame is basically pvp orientated and nothing else and i didn't really find the combat system to be fun and alls you did for pve is spam your highest damage moves constantly unless your trying to counterattack something. Still the future of PvP in games looks very bright considering the success of both Guild Wars and World of Warcraft.
I agree 100%! I don't get people who say that GW is so good. I assume it's because it's free and more people play it so there's more feeback from it. Unfortunatly most of people who play GW because it's free and think it has some awsome PvP system have never played a real PvP MMORPG such as ShadowBane. I wouldn't even categorize GW as MMORPG, since the world is so static and it's more like "run from this point to this point to enter next zone, in mean time kill everything on the way" and PvP is just freakn Arenas, how can you categorize this as MMORPG? GW is Online RPG IMO. Also, how can you call anything a good PvP MMORPG where PvP is restricted to Arenas, without even full loot!
IMO, best Fantasy PvP/Siege is ShadowBane. It revolves about PvP, City Building, huge Sieges, etc.
Best Sci-Fi/FPS MMO must be PlanetSide, which is much more like Battelfield (comparing), but also great PvP.
Eve Online is awsome PvP game for those that enjoy a lot of RTS aspects such as Starships, transport, etc, and don't mind not playing as a player, but more as a ship.
EVE has the most "consequence laden" PvP. It's hardcore in the sense that you lose a lot when you die. It has meaning in that much of it is about fighting over territory and resources, access to areas where these are located and the like. And it requires a good level of skill to perfect (also skill in manipulating the game, not twitching skills but tactical skill).
Lineage II has open PvP with some consequences, and it has territorial fighting in the form of castle sieges. Levelling is very slow.
WoW has virtually consequence-free PvP in terms of downside (you can gain honor points by PvP).
GW (not an MMORPG in my opinion) has consequence free PvP, more arcade or video-game style combat.
I would suggest EVE because I like EVE so much, but I know that EVE is not for everyone. I do think it has the most meaningful PvP, but you have to like fighting in space ships, and controlling the ships the way you would control a 3d humanoid character (and a lot of folks don't like either of those, apparently).
While EVE really isnt my bag of chips, it does have decent PvP (that is if you can find someone to fight or have the patience to play the game). And podding people is freaking funny. Despite having a large "carebearish" population, its pretty hardcore once you get into low level space and risk loosing your ship's modifications and cargo.
DAoC 8v8 is pretty good..if you can get back into it after the clusterfuck that was TOA.
It is PvP where you can do anything you want, but of course if you kill an innocent you will be punished with bad Karma. And it isn't like these damn carebear games, when if you die...nothing happens (that is worth mentioning anyway)! Shure it may seem a bit rough, high item costs that can be dropped upon death. But this game is all about PvP. From Castle seiges, Clan wars, Arena battles, Revenge, defending yourself in the open..ect. ect.
Like I said L2 best PvP ever. The people that don't like it, don't like PvP. And the people that say it is too hard are taking the game too seriously. It helps to be high lvl and have uber gear, but that isn't all what it is about.
If you haven't tried L2, go buy it. Can get it at your local game store for about $20 and you get the first month free (like with every MMO)! DO IT!! NOW!!!
Ok i Read most of the posts and I'm going to give my reasons on why im not going back to EvE online.
I realy dont feel like spending all that time to gain my skills again i wish it would take my actual skill to gain, like i said maybe if i buy an account but i realy dont like doing that and i've never done it. Another thing is that the EvE comunity is the most hardcore comunity ive ever seen. I mean if you read the their online site forums you will see all this Political B.S on a grand scale it seems silly to me to care so deeply but sometimes you see them putting each other in check saying thats its just a game. Personaly i wish there was a scifi game similar to EvE but without the skill system and please dont mention SwG heh. I know EvE has realy cool PvP i realy liked it in the month and a half i played it it does realy take brains and some luck especialy if you run into people you dont know.
I also played shadowbane before and it was kinda intresting. I liked how you could PvP anywhere but
the crappy part about that was after you died and respawned someone could be waiting and kill you again which happend to me. In Lineage II there is none of spawn killing, sure there is ganking but there is a penalty to that hehe. I also didnt like the PvP feel to SB and the grafix suck imo.
I wish tubla rasa was centered around PvP and PvE like your constantly fighting against Aliens and also other clans or Guilds i hate this crap where companies try to attract evary type of player but PvP players. DnL seems vary intresting to me right now same with SuN but they arnt out yet i think i might just try WoW for some fun on my free time.I tried the GW beta and it was kinda fun but to me without a seemless would its not a mmorg
P.S I actualy took my computer in the garage for 1.2 months OMG im at the library right now!

L2 does not can not compare to SB.
so if your looking for a good pvp game stay away from L2. If you don't mind bad graphics you can play Shadowbane free trials on the test server.

Take a step back in time and relive the original Lineage II experience as it was in the beginning. Create a classic hero from the original 5 races and 31 class options and jump into the nostalgic hardcore level grind where the rewards can outweigh the risks. It's your chance to experience the game the way it was when "hardcore" meant something!

ROFL. Yeah I heard that too. Blizzard's famous, neverending "soon".......
You forgot to include EvE in your poll BTW.

[b]Yea your prolly right about all those games... i heard WoW is going to get better soon though.
Blizzards definition of soon is 3-8 months from now... just a fyi
Please? 1 hour?
My vote def goes to Eve online.. For the record, I've been playing this game for more than 1 hour and I still like it
Take the Magic: The Gathering 'What Color Are You?' Quiz.
Like someone said in a previous post on eve...
I used to hate eve..but my friend made me stick with it for as long as i could and I could not be any happier with the game.

pvp in ultima online was really fun
pvp in eve online ? ... gank gank gank
personally im hate idea - wait in safe spot 2 hours in gang for one crazy atack or waiting on gate for any noob...
It depends on what you want out of PvP.
But other than that, its all about Shadowbane.
So my top two choices are SB and EVE.
daoc
'nuff said
Guild Wars - Rorick Aurlith E/Mo pumped up with the best armor and weapon, has all his skills, and runes. PvP King!
Dark Age of Camelot - Leaton 50 Vampiir - Lamorak - Guild: Magic and Mayhem!
Best PvP is LINEAGE II, hands down!
