Polished? What with?

I'm a big Star Wars fan and was expecting this game to hit the sweet spot but it fails in so many ways.

Never in all my mmo gaming years have I grown tired of a game so quickly, to the point that I'm considering cancelling before the free month is over.

People keep calling this game polished but they must be having a laugh. It has a plethora of bugs, most of them minor but some of them so hair tearingly irritating that people with less patience than myself must be cancelling hand over fist.

The worst for me is not being able to enter warfronts. I can usually complete 1 warfront but after that I just continuously get kicked out to the login screen. It doesn't happen all the time and one night I completed maybe 6 in a row, but more often than not I just can't join at all. This is a game-breaker Bioware and I'm falling behind my guildies who are levelling much quicker.

Combat is another big problem and clunky isn't strong enough a word. I start to lose health so I quickly click on my shields and back to DPSing, I glance back at my toolbar and my shields never fired. Low on health I click a medpack and back to DPS, another glance at my health bar and whoa, the medpack didn't fire either. WTF, I can't keep double checking to make sure something fired correctly.

Travelling is rediculous and tedious. How many of those 200 hours of gameplay that were promised involve moving from A to B? I would guess at least half, compounded even more by loading screens.

Loading screens between zones, loading screens when i get on and off my ship, loading screens everywhere, and slow loading screens at that.

With all of the travelling, sometimes you might want to avoid some of the NPCs along the route, but don't stray off the beaten path too much because you'll get stuck. I can't beleive the number of times I have got stuck in the gameworld in so many different locations.

The cinematic dialogue, some love it, personally I don't. So spacebar is my friend, but guess what, it still loads the dialogue in the background making me wait before I can skip it.

The user interface stinks not only because you can't customize it, but if I open a window, I did it for a reason. Don't close it just because i open another.

Anyway, the few things I've mentioned and many other issues don't smell of polish to me, in fact they smell of something completely different.

I agree with everything you say and would like to add that this is the first time I've ever seen a Brit misspell ridiculous.

was never kicked form pvp yet!was kicked tho because of the darn healer shiny effect wouldnt release(bug)after a while when the server find the anomaly it automaticly kick you out no question asked!so if you see something anormal dont take chance relog or you will be kicked out of the server.(then you have to relog anyway)aside from this small annoyance no problem everything is shiny

Have no idea what you are talking about, this game runs flawless on my PC, everything you have mentioned seems to be on your side of things, not the game itself, This game is a very fun and relaxed game to play. So I do not agree with what you have said here.....enough said...

you forgot to say loading screens. lol

I don't believe you read 'everything' in the post ;)

I have read everything, I dont have any problems, You either except the way things are, or you dont,  no game is perfect, but it is enjoyable....have fun and stop with the nitty and gritty stuff.....

No idea why you get kicked out

    Seems smooth to me.

Travelling is rediculous and tedious. How many of those 200 hours of gameplay that were promised involve moving from A to B? I would guess at least half, compounded even more by loading screens.

Too much running for my personal taste, I agree, but the recall and fleet beacons help a lot.

Loading screens between zones, loading screens when i get on and off my ship, loading screens everywhere, and slow loading screens at that.

My loading times are pretty fast.

With all of the travelling, sometimes you might want to avoid some of the NPCs along the route, but don't stray off the beaten path too much because you'll get stuck. I can't beleive the number of times I have got stuck in the gameworld in so many different locations.

I had some 'nearly got stuck but somehow jumped free' situations, but certainly not a common problem.

The cinematic dialogue, some love it, personally I don't. So spacebar is my friend, but guess what, it still loads the dialogue in the background making me wait before I can skip it.

The dialogue, voice overs, and cutscenes are my favorite part of the game. I do skip the ones I have seen before on an alt however, at times.

The user interface stinks not only because you can't customize it, but if I open a window, I did it for a reason. Don't close it just because i open another.

My interface complaint is one thing: Sometimes I accidentally remove an attack from my action bar in the middle of combat. Might just be me being clueless, but it is annoying.

Anyway, the few things I've mentioned and many other issues don't smell of polish to me, in fact they smell of something completely different.

I have been playing the game with no serious issues, enjoying the heck out of it. I would call it polished.

Hey, there is always Guildwars 2. I figure I will be 'done' with TOR by the time GW@ is out.

I would just like to point out loading screens are something i totally agree with. I remember EQ2 being quite bad, but that was on an older PC with a game with higher requirements. This runs off the Hero engine on my 10k Raptor and it takes two minutes to load a planet. So i ration travelling like im saving real-life petrol now.

as for the skill bar once set it can be locked !

I don't want to argue with you but the game is definetaly not your type. You have been spoiled with WoW for so long that you are unable to get used to something different and new (by new, I mean a game released 3 weeks ago). Focus on positive things and try to avoid the negative one, you will be much happier in your gaming journey in SWTOR or in another game.

Or you should quit playing games since they have all loading screen and bugs and start developping your own games for your own needs if you are so frustrated with the released games.

Really... 2 minutes... you have got to be kidding me... now I know your just lying or exagerating.  Granted the larger planets take longer to load, with Tat usually talking me about 40 or so seconds to load (4500rpm HDD).  Yeah it's bit annoying, but I have also been gaming since the Sega Genisis, so I have encountered a few lenghty loding screens in my gaming life.  Really not something I would bitch about personally, but when SW:ToR apparently took your gaming lunch money, you have to bitch about something.

i got to say on average i like the game!at time i wish bio/ea would restart the server cause most issue would be fixed there most of the time!when i get issue i relog and most of the time isssue goes away, some dont but on average there ias a mecanic going on behind the scene cause every once in a while(probably hour )it looks like server is scanning for problem and autofix it!i could be wrong here but check me i had a graphical glitch because of my healer graphic look wouldnt release after a while server booted me (i bet it was because of the graphical glitch)the gamei snt perfect like when you need to speak to vorr the instance or phaze is wrong you have to go in city do 1 or 2 quest comeback and then vorr is there!no big issue!i would have said they were killed but isnt the spaceport a personal zone !

I agree with the OP. Especially concering the story cut-scenes. Honestly, I don't think personalised narrative by way of a pre-determined fashion has any place in an MMO. MMOs are all about the community and how they interact with each other in a World. Some of the best times I've had were in games like Lineage 2 were clan warfare and personal rivalries shaped the lore and story in your world. Instead of having it force-fed on you by the now 'not so great' Bioware, Who, if I'm honest, seem to have fallen in love with their own legend.

agree 100 % with OP. As for warfronts it happens to me and my friends all the time the last 2-3 days.

Mythbusters proved that you can polish a turd and make it shine. Though it will always be a turd.

Wow is a game I tried to like for 6 months, it didn't work out.

As for playing 'new' games, I'm a veteran at that having played most from beta including WAR, AION, RIFT and most recently SWTOR.

This one I have to say is the least 'polished' of them all at release and no game I have ever come across has such an abundance of loading screens.

in pvp i get the feeling that lot of stuff player are used to do isnt toerated by server and kick you guys out when those arise!

cause i went to pvp hand havent had issue so far!aside from me thinking level 50 should be in their own bracket!

Now I know you are doing the lie. Because if you had a 4500 RPM Hdd you wouldnt be playing this game at all O_O. Thats like the early 90s when 3gb HDDs were an OOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMGGGGG 3GB.   might want to say 7500 rpm next time

if he is playing with 4500 rpm load time must be awfull i got an ssd and they are fairly long!

  • sammyelisammyeli Member Posts: 765

if hes got a 4500 RPM HDD hes not playing this game lol, because like i said early 90s and the only one that had any good speed R/W was SCSI. hes just fanboing it out

...he probably meant 5400, not 4500.

Pretty common for low power 'green'  drives.

  • sammyelisammyeli Member Posts: 765

ok ill bite 5400, usually in laptops but even then I dont thik he would be runnign the game smoothly as he says since the standard of HDDs in laptops that can play games has been up'd. just sayin

Game is far from perfect, but I'm not experiencing all the issue you are. Not to be a dick, but combat for me is the total opposite of what you've described. Perhaps your Internet connection and/or system is lagging a bit? The loading screens or me are also pretty quick, but I have a pretty good connection as you ca see below. As for the UI, I've seen them say they are working on a customizable UI.

I have noticed some bugs, one specially with reverse engineering, which was pissing me off. Not to the point I'd cancel though, I mean shit, the game has been out about two weeks, so I'm given them some time. Overall, I think the game does have a great deal of polish and is leaps and bounds ahead of my experience in WoW, Eq2, Vanguard and AoC when they came out.
