Well I was going to alternate between this and ToR on an month on and month off basis . Now I'm going to get the years sub and play Rift all the time and ToR still on a bi-monthly basis .

I do not care what is said of Rift... I really enjoyed... but, even though my sub ends in April 2011, I am playing SWTOR & having a lot of fun; played as most of you, Wow... LoTR, FFXI, DAoC.. etc etc etc. I enjoying gaming& where I am at now, brings me pleasure. We do what we do for the excitement of self or for the love of another. Deal with it.
I got a 6month rift sub (8,99€/mth) - thats fair enough. I play SWTOR but on lvl 50 there is not more than daily grind and feeling the mass of bugs. I dont think that I will continue my sub for SWTOR.
I think i will take a look in march after they added their 2nd update - until then rift will probably patch to 1.9 or else ^^

$99 is not a bad deal for Rift. It's a well-made, excellent game. I think it's more about competition than anything else. Neither WoW nor SWTOR have that good of rate for a long-term sub. By setting up that pricing point they put the onus on Blizzard and EA to offer a long-term deal like that. Even LOTRO had a great $9.99 deal for founders. The $14.99/mo. is just a bit much. If they can get it to $9.99/mo., they likely are better able to retain subs. At $9.99/mo. people are going to have an easier time, as they will be more inclined to sub to 2 MMOs, as opposed to just one.
As for F2P, I think the model will ultimately do very well. With LOTRO, even if you don't use a P2P sub, you get get some of the P2P items through their Item Mall deal. The Item Mall, in all honesty, is far more lucrative. The companies realize this, as evidenced by the fact that people have used real world money for virtual items. Look at it this way, a company can say pay $14.99/mo. or paying $0/mo., but if you want the extras, it will cost you (nickel and dime you until you pay $20/mo. (typically the minimum points card you can buy).
I like the fact that SOE has a $19.99/mo. deal for access to all their games. That leads me to another idea: an OnLive type, Netflix type deal for people that sub to multiple MMOs -- a consortium type deal. Might actually work.
SWTOR high rez is roughly abouts RIFTS low to medium setting in my personal opinion. SWTOR looks like it did on the console one kotor.
Sorry, but looking at the screenshot in the OP, swtor looks much better.
You are talking about a bug. Some people are currently having a bug with swtor, which makes the game only display low res character textures (I have seen these shots). But for the people that get the game to work properly (I and many others) it looks great (same as the ingame cinematics). And now they are talking of giving us even better textures.
People still play WAR, AOC, and other failure MMO's.
People like what they like and no reason to hate on them for that. I quit SWTOR already. I've gone back to WoW many times, i've gone back to RIFT a few times. Unfortunately nothing has been able to keep me.
Sorry, but looking at the screenshot in the OP, swtor looks much better.

No, actually the cut scenes have higher res as stated by BIOWARE themselves. So, you are wrong. Some people might have horrible low resolution textures yes. But no one has high resolution. At least not nearly as high as the game claims to have available (cut scenes).
Just goes to show that Rift is feeling the hurt a lot lately, and this is a marketing ploy to bring more people in. Fine by me, but the game itself is just TOO small and TOO similar to WoW to keep me playing for any longer than a month at a time. They were fine up until SWTOR launched and now I am so engrossed in that game I barely blink at Rift news.
So you can't play Rift for over a month cause it's to much like WoW but you can play SWTOR?

Shame this isnt in HD but you get the idea, SWTOR can't come near to this in shadows, textures, lighting and reflection.... Look at all the little things like fire reflection, Sunlight beams coming through trees and glinting of objects. Trees swaying and shadows reacting how they should. Show me something comparble from SWTOR!
Seriously It baffles me how some people can;t tell teh difference between bland graphics iwth all he nice bits in to immerse tou into the game.
Just shows you that p2p is becoming less and less popular. Amazing game too, hopefully new players are attracted to the price decrease for multi month subscriptions. Eitherway, I just hope p2p games don't all go completely out.
The reverse is actually true. I've seen chart after chart at MMO conferences now showing that the "Free to Play" fad is dieing fairly quickly. People have realized the low quality products that the "Free to Play" market produces.
Can you share this info? It might have to do with the fact that there are soo many f2p titles and many are really junk, but many more are good and actually have a good following.

My ingame armor looks exactly the same as in the cinematics (many others have confirmed the same). Only the faces are higher res in the cinematics, but this difference you don't seen ingame as the ingame characters are much smaller than the fullscreen cinemactics.
The big fuss on the forums is from the many people who only get the low res bug (I agree this problem exists for some people as I have seen their shots, which don't look like what I see ingame at all).
The good thing is that thanks to this we'll get even better textures.

Actually what it shows me is shrewed business practices by Trion. Play SWTOR at the premium MMO price while BW sorts things out post release or play a polished, finished game with standard MMO features(scaleable UI, LFG tools, etc., etc) for less.
It's no secret SWTOR was not the game some people were looking for so to make it easier on those players to switch, they announce a sub price cut during Janurary. Smart business IMO.
Contrary to popular belief, Rift has seen steady hours logged with minimal decline in that area since SWTOR launched. Rift has a steady, loyal fanbase and is going no where anytime soon as much as the haters want it to die.

Lol how is swtor a wow clone? Haha I didn't know wow had complete voice overs a legacy system different planets, your own ship, and your very own story? Yeah I guess TOR is a wow clone, sarcasm off.

Or possibly they've copied WoW again, I mean they have a year pass thing now, (with some extras which Trion can't add so they went for a lower price), and let's be honest it wouldn't be the first time...ho ho ho.
Normally I would praise them trying to do something but it's not smart when you pester someone every month with a new offer to come back. It just sounds desperate after a while, it's like a salesman who won't take, 'no', for an answer :P
I always thought the design philosophy was flawed with Rift. Trion assumed that a lot of WoW players were fed up of the raiding/pvp scene there and wanted to raid/pvp somewhere else. It might be why the questing feels like playing an MMO from six years ago. It's a means to an end rather then something to engage you in. The rifts themselves felt like poor public quests with no context.
Of course this is all my opinion and this is a good deal if you can see yourself playing for another year

So RIFT is a WoW clone and SWTOR isnt? Are you kidding? SWTOR is more of WoW than WoW itself...
Um Ive played all three and I totally disagree. Rift is far closer to wow then TOR. High fantasy, check, dwarfs elfs human check, mind numbing number of dailies and faction grinds check. Simon says raiding check. Nearly identical crafting model check. magic bows and swords check. location binding for cross zone quick travel check. Text based quest givers check, I could go one but my point is that everything I listed above is different in TOR than in Wow. The only similarity is that its a theme park model MMO.
A bonus is an unexpected gift, whereas a discount is a deduction of the usual cost. The only bonus I see is getting early vet rewards, which hardly seems worthy of a thread titled as "Bonuses Galore".
