Well they got Mythic team backing them up in the pvp department. Hopefully they can capitalize on that.
Possible but highly suspect. While they were responisble for DAOC weren't they also responsible for Warhammer?
Kind of 1 for 1 there but I get what you're saying.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
Regardless or rating,I think Rift is a better, more well round product than ToR is.
Rift have a more experience team. But what impress me is the post release content developement of rift. Post release content for ToR will make or break it imo
I hate science fiction genre games with a passion and the thought of a Star Wars MMO puts me right to sleep. Having said that, I can honestly say the only thing that is more boring to ME as a gamer; Rift.
I bought a pair of copies for the wife and I when it was on sale for 10 dollars for Black Friday. We got our toons up to level 32 and mulled about. LFG took more than two hours to for a pair of mid level characters to even find a group (one of us was a healer.)
Rift was a snore-fest with huge stretches of barren social landscape on most of the servers we visited. In truth I find it pretty impossible to believe that RIFT could "top" a game such as SWToR, regardless of how many mistakes Bioware makes.
By the by, Rift full version with the first month subscription is on sale in store at Walmart and EB or 9 dollars right now.

+1 ... i didnt bought SWTOR, cause i wanted to wait just in case it will be a fail like Aion or WAR. and my hunch was right.I'll stay in Rift. It maybe have many similarities with other mmos and a few new things, but its a very solid MMO atm with great graphics and atmosphere.

No argument there. Regardless whether one likes the game or not I can't see many making a real solid case bashing Trion for not doing a damn good job with content updates.
Pretty impressive if you ask me.

And before I look like some trolling tit; the post sounds much harsher than it was intended to be. I really do like the player base of Rift, they were friendly and helpful when I could find them, I am just not a big fan of eitther game.

I have the same opinion as you with rift, too much similarity with WoW, dump down crafting and quest hub tunneling. Tried both rift and ToR out in beta. But like wickedjelly said, even thou i don't like the game but they do an impressive job updating the content. I don't know how fast ToR can manage to churn out content but if they can match rift content update speed then it may mature into a great mmo, only time will tell
These comparisons remind me of 7 years ago when WoW and EQ2 came out and people were too busy bashing each other to realize that the two games were nearly identical.
I played both Rift and TOR in beta and I've bought both on release. Both games are extremely similar and both games are absolutely worth playing for 1-3 months. One has better writing and alignment system, while the other has dynamic content and great character customization. Otherwise they're extremely close in just about every aspect.
Of course having lightsabers helps too...even though they only come in 3 colours the reasoning for which makes no sense whatsoever

Welcome to MMORPG.com where the rules are made up and the points don't really matter. I'm Drew Carey and with me tonight is Wayne Brady, Colin Mochrie, Ryan Stiles, and special guest Channel84.

I don't see how. I really think their design of being so story oriented is going to put a hamper on them being able to deliver at the same speed. Unless they start dropping out on things such as the story cinematic aspects, voiceovers, etc.
I'll be happy if they prove me wrong but I kind of doubt it. Gonna take a lot longer for them to put something together than they're able to do in Rift. Granted there's no telling how much they already have in the pipeline. This company is kind of infamous least to me with holding back on some material to release at a later time. Granted part of that could simply be because it isn't fleshed out yet and not due to reasons some like to say are the motivating factors.
Kind of does take some bite out of it when they can't scream it was done to inflate dlc sales.

Imo they (EA/bioware) need to invest a lot to make sure that happens. Then people will be saying rift and ToR have great content update but ToR have VO and cinematic. Else they won't be able to attract as much hype and sub as they hope for and that will turn their initial investment into nana. Mmo gamers expectation evolve with time and imo company need to push the boundary in mmo market in order to stay afloat. Since bioware is lead by PhD i'm sure they know what's at stake
Well I'm going back to Rift for a month or three before trying ToR for a second month .I liked some of what I saw but the game has too many issues at the moment for me to want to stay .
In a way it doesn't suprise me . A lot of people seem to feel let down by ToR .
The thing that disapointed me the most was space combat felt like an early 90s arcade game .
SWTOR is getting a lot of **** thrown at it and people are posting how THEY think that swtors awful, just cause these people and sites say its awful doesn't mean it isn't. There are hardly any big bugs tbh which is impressive for a game of this size a month after launch, sure ilums crap cause the imps dominate it but that ISN'T biowares fault, it's understandable that people will want to play the bad side over the good side
Only because SWTOR has become the new cool thing to hate around here.
I seriously doubt that RIFT has ever had as many players or as much interest as SWTOR has and will continue to have going forward. I personally only got through a few hours of RIFT before uninstalling. SWTOR has had its hooks into me for months (long-time beta tester).
Funny you should say that because as a long time Star Wars fan, i've had the opposite experience from what I expected.
SWTOR has had a poor launch compared to Rift with many bugs and parts of the game that just don't work for many people, including myself. Warfronts are a farce and the ability delay makes any kind of competitive gameplay (PvP) a joke.
The reason it's become the new game to have a stab at is because they have seriously under-delivered and once you get into your 30's/40's you begin to realise this.
I respectfully disagree. Both games had smooth launches, but RIFT was just not a very good game in my opinion. It was too imbalanced, far too generic fantasy... it just felt uninspired to me through and through. SWTOR is a much more quality game if you ask me. Of course, that is only my opinion. And please note that I am not posting this in the RIFT forum.
So basically it's ok for you to say that rift is not a good game and when other people say that swtor is not a good game they're just hater following the "cool" trend? Wow
Just look at his post history, every post he makes comes from the assumption that the majority of gamers hold the same view as he does rather than just speaking for himself. Once you realize that it's easy to see where his often mistaken point of view comes from.
I spoke on my opinion about RIFT only and I think I was pretty respectful in what I said.
My point is that, after I quit RIFT, I did not go into their forum on this site and repeatedly post about every flaw imaginable in the attempt to harm the game or convince others of my opinion. I have plenty of reasons for not liking that game, but I chose not to rub everyone elses face in it. What about you?

Lol, that is awesome. You do realise they are getting millions $ for something they developed, and your're saying its not there fauly it doesn't work.....Do you have a free sub or something?
It is their responsibility to you as a subscriber to fix issues.....
But regarding the score - its a nice indication on the AVERAGE score games are getting from users - how many votes doesn't even matter...
Well Done RIFT. And SWTOR not so well done.

Mmmmyep. Because if those meters were based on anything remotely like reality, Vanguard and WoW would have switched sub numbers.

Talking about MMORPGS, every game with half the common features tops SWTOR -because SWTOR misses way too many features to be called an MMORPG.
Last thing i've heard is that is has not even a combat log? Come on....

Rift is a better game all around, except the questing. People just don't want to accept that, but it's ok.
