What?!.. you know absolutely nothing about the game do you?

    in what ways?

I know about dynamic events replacing quest, I know about WvWvW taking place in the mist, and about the lack of trinity and I am even aware of the aggro style (Who evers clostest to the mob unless they changed that), and the skill/dodge based combat.

Edit: Now that I think about I can also name off about 3 races, and all of the classes.

I don't care about innovation I care about fun.

If there isn't dueling, yeah that is a disappointment. But you know what I think will be fun? The bar fight mini-game!

About the mounts. I don't think we will need them. And I think Guild Wars 2 is going to give us so much more in return for them vanity type of players. They are giving us dye and transmogrification. They might be giving us certain dyes that we can unlock. I think I even saw an armor tab for clothes that our characters put on while in cities.

It is like each feature they haven't mentioned, they mention two more in that lacking feature's place. I sure hope they can deliver. /overhype

Welcome to the Year of the Dragon!
Today is Lunar New Year’s Day, and according to the Asian zodiac system, the first day of the Year of the Dragon. It’s an auspicious omen for all of us at ArenaNet, as we get ready to make this our own Year of the Dragon.
"this all leads to the release of Guild Wars 2 later this year."

Op and others, I will say this again. GW2 will release around the time that WoW's MoP xpac comes out. Keep an eye on that date. That should be your marker.

This is my plan for this year TOR > TSW> Tera > GW2 + Panda . will probably continue playing gw2+panda for long time. Great year :)

We recently finished our first closed beta test, and we’re now ready to hold progressively larger events. In February we’ll invite select press to participate in beta testing, and in March and April we’ll aggressively ramp up the size of our beta test events so that many of you will have a chance to participate. And of course, this all leads to the release of Guild Wars 2 later this year.

    -Mike O’Brien

    ArenaNet Founder and President

That, to me, pretty clearly implies at least two short Open Beta events in March and April. May would seem the most probably launch window, but an April Open Beta event, if it were to occur early in the month, would not preclude a late April launch!

The light is clearly visible at the end of the tunnel! :)

Very interesting, as I've been considering getting the Guild Wars Complete Collection and begin working on the Hall of Monuments achievements for the GW2 goodies.  Only thing that was holding me back was no release date and I had thought it was going to be soon.  With this new info though, GW2 most probably won't launch until summer or fall ~ this of course being based on how slow or rather thorough ANet are with development.

    Now it would seem I should have ample time to enjoy GW at a slower pace and not feel rushed...  {I should also add that I want to play GW for the story mostly, too better get aquainted with the lore going into GW2}

Not letting Snaylor rain on my parade, this is awesome news, can't wait!

Good stuff - I couldn't have cared less about this game 4 months ago but after finally doing some research on it I'm very excited to play.  Hopefully it will help wash that awful TOR after taste I still have in my mouth.  Blech!

TB Already knows about the february beta and is sad because february is the month he will be most of the time out of home xD

Damnit, February is the worst possible month for the Guild Wars 2 press beta, I'll barely be at home the entire time

Cant wait. The sooner, the better.

But seriously, 6th month should be the last call for GW2 to come out.

After that, it is just exaggeration.

Yeah I know its a good think Anet didn't forget things like dualing mounts and raid huh?

Looks like somethign to play   along side TOR.

your right. they should have put kung fu panda mounts and a raid finder with the feature of being able to beat a big dragon with a blindfold. that would help.

Not much wrong with not having raids seeing how they seem to be replacing them from what I have heard.

Mounts, in nearly any MMORPG I have played, are nothing more than a speed buff with a different animation...I can live without them.  It would be nice to have them later, but I hardly consider them a "core" feature.

Also, what is "dualing?"  Do you mean "dueling?"  If so, then yeah would be nice to have, but once again, not exactly a core feature.

If GW2 does fail, it will be because they failed in the implementation of their core features like dynamic events, WvWvW, world design, etc.  It won't be because they don't have mounts or dueling.

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

But seriously.  I think with this game when a feature from a typical MMO is missing, you have to ask why is it not there, what purpose does it serve.

Dueling isn't in the game at release because the game is balanced around group play, not individual play.  I think the last thing anybody wants is a shitstorm over perceived imbalance when their testing has shown that a class is perfectly viable in 5v5 and 10v10.  Who knows, they might even be wanting to take a stand against duel spammers (like its harassment) or maybe they just want to keep PVE and PVP completely separate.

Even so, it's apparently possible to make a 1v1 custom structured PVP match and players can search for matches made by people on their friends list.  That's pretty much a duel right there.  http://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/pvp/pvp-overview/

As far as mounts go, I really believe there are benefits to not having them.  For one thing, it keeps them special if they're part of minigames or certain events.  For another thing, there aren't really any gameplay improvements that come with mounts (nobody in the pro-mount camp came up with any in the legendary 44 page mount thread, other than combat mounts which is a whole other problem), all the benefits are aesthetic.  There are potential downsides to gameplay with them though, as I pointed out here.   Also, players do run faster with weapons sheathed (providing mount functionality without the aesthetics) and it's a lot imo better to just draw your weapons rather than get dismounted randomly.

Also, there are plenty of waypoints.  This map has 17 of them by my count.  http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/File:2010_August_Blazeridge_Steppes_map.jpg  You can't swing a dead charr without hitting one.

I never thought it wouldn't be a 2012 release, I actually hoped for 2011 once upon a time.  The real news I'm waiting for now is the release date.  The game already looks polished.

You guys are crazy if you think it'll be releasing past Late-June.

If I'm wrong, I'll buy someone a collectors edition, 100% serious.

Sure, I'll take one!  lol  And yeah, crazy may be a good word for it, but with some decent speculation going on, the wait will be a little more bearable than "when it's ready".

Thats been my hobby for like 5 years now.  It probably will be for another 5!

But I am excited GW2 is coming out.  I think we will see it in about 6 months.  :-)  Despite not being the sandbox persistant world game I really want to play, GW2 seems good, much like GW1 was great despite it not being what I really am looking for.  I think I will enjoy it.

I think its funny that people try to compare SWTOR with GW2, I don't think there is much comparison in my mind.

Since they didn't mention an open beta I think that OB will come somewhere around June and that the game will be here by July-August, there is no way it's coming late April though like some people here are hoping. BTW can't to see how good this game is, it definently shows promise but I can't see it appealing to the hardcore crowd.
