Just in case speculation for Guild Wars 2's launch date wasn't running quite rampant enough, Amazon.de has begun taking pre-orders for the game. Furthermore, the site claims a launch date of June 30th, 2012.
Community members have already picked up on it, but is there truth in the date? We checked in with NCsoft West for the official word: "We have not released an official launch date within 2012 as feedback from our closed and open marketing betas will help us determine an exact release date. We will release Guild Wars 2 when it is ready."
We do know that the Guild Wars 2 development team is revving up for plenty of beta testing in February, March, and April, and the company has confirmed that GW2 will launch this year.

Rofl remember seeing one of these coming in 3 or 4 months like 4 years ago now....
I'll believe it when its in my hand.
Amazon does this with every game that is releasing some time within the year. They basically just assume a placeholder to have something for their preorder page. 99% of the time is has been wrong for every game they have done it for. Don't put much stock in it till you see it on the Guild Wars 2 page itself.

Amazon, Gamestop, BestBuy and pretty much every retailer puts up a space saving date that may or may not have any connection to reality.
Until the publisher releases a date it's at best a WAG (wild arse guess)!
The day a launch date is announced this is how I picture it in my mind: nerdgasms.
just checked, amazon didn't put up anything for diablo 3, so the placeholder theory is weakened.
also june 30th fits with the timelines they've released lately regarding beta plans.
I believe this is it.
I agree.
It does seem plausible.
I'll believe it when A-Net officialy says so.
"For the Angel of Death spread his wings on the blast,
And breathed in the face of the foe as he passed:
And the eyes of the sleepers waxed deadly and chill,
And their hearts but once heaved, and for ever grew still!"
~Lord George Gordon Byron
Seriously!? You really believe that crap?
I still remember back when Amazon & Gamestop put 11 Nov 2010 as the release date. Then when it became obvious that the game wouldn't be out they moved it to April 2011, then September 2011, then Nov 2011, then April 2012 and now June 2012. I really could care less what these stores say... I'll wait for ArenaNet to announce the release, because so far they haven't lied to us... yet.

My guess is it will come out in May sometime.
Actually...let me put a number to it...maybe we can start a pool .

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?
F.Y.I. 6/30/2012 is a saturday
Oh snap! You're right.
Dear Amazon,
If you're going to make up more Guild Wars 2 release dates, then at least try to be realistic about it.

Hah! My prediction is already better .
Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?
Meh, I'm awaiting a Collector's Edition announcement before I pre-order. Also I don't get why this is considered news as GW2 has been available to pre-order for the past yr+ just about anywhere with guesstimated date changes every few months.
That's odd, I've had it on preorder on GW2 since Aug 19.
They nag me about ("Still doesn't exist") every couple of weeks or so.

Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
the game will be released when's ready period
like all mmos lol.
27/6/2012
I have money riding on that date ;P
14.05.2012.
How funny, I saw this article while googling GW2 news and knew right away, no matter how many times we've been through this same situation, that someone would post about it on MMORPG.com and get people in a tizz. Pop over here and, sure enough.
Amazon and other sellers have been putting placeholder dates on games forever. By the way, the placeholder date for last year, for GW2, was somewhere in November. I've had the game preordered since last year.
Normally I wouldn't say anything, but after the rabid spreading of false "open beta" information about GW2 even pulled actual MMO site writers in, I'm even more sure that people are likely to believe, and get excited about, things that aren't true just because they want it so bad (case in point, a couple of above posters that were willing to believe it and didn't realize that date was a Saturday, or that it's the end of the 'quarter' date). Anyone who's been through at least one MMO release knows those placeholder dates are nothing to be excited about. No reason to rile the masses.

Where are people seeing a GW2 placeholder release date on Amazon?
There wasn't one last summer when I pre-ordered, nor is there one now. Amazon routinely let's you pre-order some in demand titles with out a release date. Since there is no pre-order fee and you aren't billed until the game is launched, it's a pretty no risk way to secure a pre-order. I guess the only real risk is that you lose interest in a game before it launches and forget to cancel the pre-order. (When a game has pre-order bonuses, they always apply it retroactively to pre-orders before the bonus was announced. They also have a pre-order price guarantee.

I doubt it, all they said is that it is going to launch in 2012. Any reasonable date guess will be after the summer holidays period: Sept until Dec 2012
12.21.2012
That sounds dumb, have anyone ever released a AAA MMO in late june?
Only no lifers spend the summer gaming, you will get a lot better initial sales in spring or autumn.
Of course it would make it possible to actually gain players after launch but I still don´t believe it.
Amazon isn´t a trustworthy source, I am not sure even I would believe NC soft either, the only ones that have a clue is ANET.
As many others has said - I believe it when I hear it from ANet. My biggest hope though is that they keep their own promise and don't rush it.
