My own rating system would give it an 8 out of 10 or a 4 out of 5 due to "fun factor". Pretty much the sum is greater than its parts. However, in this poll I feel a 7 is more fitting.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
i think a 7, its a damn good game but could use some other features. this might change once the legacy system is shown to the public. my biggest fear is that at the endgame they don't add anything except flashpoints and operations.
sorry but im tired of searching the AH till my instance group is ready.
To the OP, Good poll. I chose 7, but really would call it 7.5. Either way, I support un-biased polls like this. Game on
You think this is unbiased?
I wouldn't rate any game higher than 5 using those instructions.
Heheh...I agree, I gave it a 4 on this poll, but I would probably give it an 8.0 (B-) otherwise.
OP, I appreciate that you gave very clear instructions on what the numbers mean, but these instructions also skewed the poll so that it will be very low as compared to what people normally expect. Let's face it, most of us look at game scores similar to how we would look at a letter grade in the American school system.
96-100 is an "A+," amazing
90-95 is an "A" great
80-89 is a "B," good but not great
70-79 is a "C," average (basically bad)
anything < 70 is just terrible
I think the problem is that, despite the fact that you explained each number, people are going to see "7.5" and just think "C."
The game to me is becoming more and more a "me too" product. When Id was setting new standards in 3D shooters, there were a lot of "me too" products, games that were very similar to a Id prouct like wolvenstein, Doom or Quake. Sometimes adding a twist that wasn't very good and usually at their core not quite up to the same standards as an Id game.
Well, Blizzard is Id and Bioware has released a "me too" WoW game that adds the feature of full voice acting a LOT of people skip through on the 2nd play through and a LOT of bugs.
Posting this right now after rage quiting over a 4000 credit repair bill thanks to "can't see target" bug on a sniper class quest. Fighting an overpowered elite that by numbers should be a cakewalk but because 99% of attacks fail (of course only AFTER the long induction) because I can't see a target hitting me with a stick in melee range.
Oh there are tricks, send companion in, then retreat her so the mob moves. This sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. Then the mob resets or gets in another spot where you can't even see the target for melee attacks. Then a slow attack takes several K health that you couldn't interrupt because of the "can't see target" bug and bam, you are dead and looking at 10 minutes to respawn because how dare I as a paying customer want to do a class quest 2 levels below me...
And then while questing, you encounter node after node that is bugged.
It is just so... average. These bugs, mobs coming out of walls, can't see target, bugged nodes. They been in every MMO I played. You would think they had them fixed by now. That during early alpha development someone hung up a piece of paper with a list of "If we have these bugs that decade old games also had, we are going to look pretty crappy".
Games like The Rift or Star Trek Online were pretty clear at launch that they had no long term plans and just hoped to make some cash until a triple A title launched to pull people in for years or for WoW to get an extension that everyone would play for half a year.
Well, SWTOR joined their ranks. Any news on when GW2 might launch? Or the Secret World? Maybe those games, by companies that have failed before (Oh GW and Aion were okay but not the WoW scale successes they might have been).
SWTOR is just another MMO with to many bugs and to many features that just scream "we hate you for paying our salaries!"
10 minute cool down on ressurrect? WHY? It is not even a hard death penalty, it is just a "fuck off" message.
I had so much faith in you, have been a fan of almost every game you have done back to NWN. I waited patiently for years, pre ordered, beta tested and gave it a solid month of play time with no prejudgements.............Seriously! WTH? Who allowed you to do this? I have no words to describe this POS you have dropped on the world. May god have mercy on your souls! "
Pretty much the way I felt...so I give it a 6, only because they still have time to make it right.
i picked 4 ..but was rly close to 1 cuz imo they have already spent soo much on this title ..i rly dont seeing them improving a whole lot "wich yes..there is alot needed" year 1/2 its dead imo i saw EA / $$ signs a mile away and imo i think they would careless about a games up tic nor downfall they are a juggernaut gaming comp that pumps out title after title if 1 looks hawt they pump it / make it out of a franchise prt 1.2.3.4 ect ..imo this year and the end of last is gonna be focused on making quick money from the mmorpg market and then FOLD and walk out the door with their pockets fat full of cash..leaving people like "wtf waz dat?" sure it may look great with a CG clip hear and there but to the people that rly play the games WE know whats missing WE know how mechanics should work properly WE know when WE are being duped..now the real hard part is to geting the super younger crowd / younger people to understand that you shouldnt always fund these"look at me im pretty" type releases..but as long as they have access to daddy credit card or just plain spoild ..imo this mmorpg / pc gaming thing will end up like a outdated console.. devs / companys pumping out title after title ignoring what it needs to be helped along to be good or great and instead just making the same flashy thing over and over agin every 3.6 months..id hate to say i told ya so to alot of people..but umm uno tha rest..
all we can do is pray that they will get it right some day instead of being greedy busters

This is most likely the intent, but I won't speculate beyond that.
I just find it absurd to label 10/10 as perfect because then no game should ever achieve a 10/10 rating. If you have something that is unachievable why is it even labeled as a rating? If a game were truly perfect it should then trascend a number all together, but that is just my opinion on all rating scales.
I had so much faith in you, have been a fan of almost every game you have done back to NWN. Got to agree: This is it?
To be honest, I had the same feeling with Dragon Age... it was only acceptable because as a RPG junkie I was starving but really, when you heard them talking about delivering something new, something different, it was a bit disappointing to get exactly the same as usual. Tolkien could have written that universe, oh wait... HE DID!
Bioware is a bright student who doesn't try and has been cruising it for far to long getting a passing grade just because the grading slope is in his favor.
I gave it a 4. I would have given it a 6 back in beta before they screwed up the upgrade crafting and added 'yellow' items. That ruined the game as far as I am concerned.
In order to be a great game and not just a good one, they'd have to redesign it. I think at this point though, they are looking at maximizing profits and doing damage control, so I don't see themselves risking it. I mean, obviously they didn't risk anything on a conceptual level during the design of the game, so I find it hard to believe they would start doing it now.
If they think they can turn this game around just by appending more warzones, flashpoints and operations at the tail end of it, they are sorely mistaken.
I was finally able to pick the game up recently. Only had a couple of days to play it so far, though, so I can't honestly say whether I like it or not.
I will say this, Lv's 1 - 10 are more entertaining and longer lasting than Lv's 1-10 in WoW.
So far I'm a little disappointed in the classes, though. Nothing really clicks for me yet. Tried Bounty Hunter and Inquisitor so far, and as much as I'd love to weild a light saber eventually, Bounty Hunter seems a bit more interesting. Or rather, Inquisitors, with their light armor, are far too squishy for my taste.
I generally prefer classes that wear at least medium armor and have a combination of physical and "magical" abilities, but none of the sith/jedi classes seem to offer that from what I've seen so far. They're either all-out brute (jedi knight, sith warrior), or paper armored glass cannons. I need some middle ground

what weve learned so far:
The average AAA MMO falls at a 5 on this voting criteria. 2/3 of people think that SWTOR is average or better.
Also, almost 10% of people gave it a 1, which is blind hate and every bit as unrealistic a score as a 10 (which had less than 2%)

Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?

I liked this review I found on the SWTOR forums.
"What in the heck did you spend $300,000,000.00 on and spend the last 5 years doing?

Giving SWTOR 7, will be raised a 8 once features are added in, and the usual mmo reviewers roll around with a re-review of the game.

I really hate numaric rating system....
I don't care about innovation I care about fun.
