I just DL'ed the 7 Day Trial. Thought I would add the the discussion, IN A CONSTRUCTIVE, manner.
First my previous gaming experience to indicate that I have some basis for my opinions. Lineage 2(beta and p2p), Asheron's Call 2, EQ2, Fairyland (beta), RYL (beta), EVE, DOAC (trial), GW, The Matrix (beta), WoW (beta) Shadowbane (trial). Numerous Korean/Asian MMOs ie... Thang, KALOnline, DOonline, etc...
NOTE: I did 'try' Horizons once before - enough to see that the graphics turned me off immediately. I am sorry but graphics go a long way to influence me in particular and they were far too ... um, not good. Not to slam the design itself, just that the rendering quality and textures/decals were not doing much for me.
This is referring to the newly updated version with host of Graphic and Game mods/boosts/nerfs (depending on your point-of-view).
Downloading was very easy. The set up was a little unusual in the fact that it used browser to set up your game... but not unusual in a bad way.
The character builder is quite good. I could tell immediately that the graphics were turned up several notches and were actually extremely good. The worst race (in appearance) from last build of Horizon I tried about 1 year ago actually looks good and not like a deformed human with dwarfism (no offense made, but I hope you understand what I am getting at).
I spent about an hour playing with all the variations of the races (of which there are a lot to choose from - a big plus).
The Tutorial wasn't too bad, however there are a few bugs. The instructors don't seem to have a trigger set correctly for when you finish a training mission to join a guild. The continue to cycle thru the same lines about joining their guild and what you have to do. When you go back to collect your reward you get a loop of the original mission and if you select join guild it tells you that you already belong.
The games UI is extremely well done. It's compact and has plenty of hotbars to load up with your skills. The inventory view and paper doll are good as well. The method of learning skills and spells is pretty unique. I can see why crafting has been talked about so much in this game. It is indeed a pretty good system. I can't say that I am a fan of crafting since I prefer to quest and fight rather than mix ingredients, but it is still a diverting way of going about it.
Combat is also interesting. So far I have discovered that there are some 'auto' attacks - spells that once triggered will cycle constantly untill your target is dead or you select another option.
Movement is pretty good. One of my pet peeves in some games is that you can't jump in some games. For example Guild Wars, you can't jump and you are limited in artificial paths that prevent you from walking on certain areas of terrian that you would normally access. In games like AC2 and in Horizons if you can see it, you can walk, run or jump on the terrain.
The weak points that I see right now are the lengths of the NPC dialogues and the hypertext linking method of selecting a topic branch. While the story is appreciated, the 2 or 3 links that branch in one segment force you to retread conversations at least twice to make sure that you don't miss any of the branches of information. However, I feel this is relatively minor.
So far, I am enjoying the game as a Gnome Scholar in the Mage Guild. I look forward to meeting the other people in game. I am on the Chaos Server. IGN Ferguss Fayver
No it's alive and well, and better than ever, and from what I have heard of its early days a completely different game. This is Horizons biggest drawback: outdated opinion/information. They usually patch/add content once a week. It's a free trial so you stand to lose nothing
There have been other patches on Unity other than those, but it is only recently that GN have started posting info on them. According to the North America login page, Client 361.2 was applied to Chaos and Order on 03.08.2005. There have been other patches during July, notably 357.1, and some others between that and 360.0.

Unity is still way behind Chaos and Order. I thought we were talking North American servers not EU servers. Hotfixes to fix memory errors and other issues are not game patches. They are exactly that hotfixes to fix the broken patches they put in. Last main patch to live was in June.

I have now pointed out that yet again, that is innacurate. Black is black and white is white, but when muddied together you get grey, which is confusing because it is neither black or white. I have removed the grey that you have inferred, and left only black and white. You cannot possibly rebuke what I have pointed out unless you are willing to lie.

It's just a game man. You got your promises broken probably for a long, long time, that would suck. But what can I say, it's a brand new game to me. Still. As you know it isn't a fast levelling game at all, in fact it's almost Lineage 2 like lol. I revel in that because the locales are so nice and it reminds me of my complete RPG past.
Please, can't you just stop crappin all over it and let it sink or swim on its own? This here, it ain't fun anymore. Either way, I'm done.
