I think they are both very well made games and can't pick one over the other, so i play both (Since GW is free i can afford to pay for Wow's subscription) They have very different play styles and the PvP is much different.

I would say the graphics in GW are amazing, even topping Wow's, and the Pvp takes more strategy, but overall i think Wow is a more "epic" mmo experience. If you're bored of Wow for a few days just play GW, it's pretty easy to pick up and learn if you already play wow.

    nice answer monoblue :)

they are different games... so provide different interest...

the competition between them is commercial not depth based...

    Graphics:

I like GW better then WoW.  Don't get me wrong, WoW graphics aren't bad, but I was never a fan of the cartoony look.  It's hard to look badass when your ears are a foot long and your nose isn't far behind.

The environments score pretty much the same to me.  They both have the cliche' junges, deserts, mountains etc.  The difference is in WoW, you're free to roam, but in GW it all instanced when you're in these areas.  To some, that's a downfall, and to others it's a perk.  I play GW not to grind, or to socialize; I play it to kill people.  So the instanced areas help speed up the already quick process of leveling.

    Sound:

I turn all sound down and listen to music on MMO's.

    Character Creation/Development:

This is a tie.  GW hands down has better creation and development (character trees were a joke) but the simple fact that WoW had more then one race puts them at equal.  WoW also has crafting, but that's not my thing.

    Leveling:

As I said before, this one too goes to GW.  Unless you like the grind, WoW is just too slow for my tastes.  Both quest storylines would be repetitive the second and third time through, but the addition of cutscenes in GW, imo, make it more fun the first time through then WoW.

That's all I got off the top of my head.  GW is faster, looks better (unless you like the cartoony feel) and has more options to make your character yours, but WoW has more race options (and I forgot to mention more items/equipment), crafting, and non instanced areas if you like meeting people while running somewhere.

Oh, and GW PvP doesn't suck.

well I for one would like to know how it compares with WoW.... i have GW and it is really fun..but for me there was a point where i thought there was no point of playing it....i think the role-playing on GW is a lil shallow but if u like pvp rather then PvE or u just like play pvp then this game is great....I think the big part for the role-playing server is that your role playing char can buy and find new things for your PvP character.....

    thats just my 2 cents...

  • TawnTawn Member Posts: 14

Ok well Ive played both.. I love them both.. however, for me WoW is just that little bit better -- FOR ME.

Both have great quest systems.. although I think its easier to pick up groups in Guild Wars.
There is probably more content in WoW.. but both have plenty.
If you like crafting or building up your character with equipment and stuff.. then wow will be better for you.
GW is constant action.. constant fun.. whilst WoW involves travelling .. this makes GW the better for just picking up and playing.. its better for the casual gamer.
Whilst GW has guild halls (at this time) WoW has a much better guild system.. sorry but you can actually see who and where people are and what they are in WoW guilds.. GW guilds really need more work. Im confident more options will be added in the future.
WoW has the brilliant internal mail system and the auction house.
PvP.. well this is the biggie.. and will probably affect which game you like the most.. unless ur a PvE person in which case go on a non-PvP WoW server..
Both have excellent PvP.. except.. whilst GW is more about pitting to equal numbers of opponents against each other.. WoW has the - fighting against possible unfair odds in the wilderness.. both styles have their charm.. GW will demand close co-operation with your teammates.. and is much more geared towards PvP as a competetive event.. WoW is unfair.. but thats not necessarily bad.. wandering through the wilderness wondering if a rogue will ambush you has an appeal that GW wont give you.. and perhaps you'd like to be the sneaky rogue.. :)
THe games are prolly very equal in terms of product quality.. though GW is by far superior in both stability and graphics... and of course cheaper.. However, I find that gameplay and the way the game works are much more important.. but perhaps u feel differently..

  • eliteguard47eliteguard47 Member Posts: 7
hmm.. i see....well here is my question that i wish to know...which one has longer lasting appeal? because i dont kow about u guys but i dont wanna spend 100$ on a game that may get boring within the first year....i felt with GW that once u get top of the line stuff on ur role play char...then what? But I myself dont like PvP that much.....
  • eliteguard47eliteguard47 Member Posts: 7
anyone know which one has the longer lasting appeal?
  • PfexPfex Member Posts: 21

I can not wait to play his game, will buy it soon. I also have a good frnd that loves to PvP.... and I think that he will like GW more then WoW.

And by the way, the Graphics in WoW look nice, but are very low quality. if you try to play the game a bit first person and you have to see everything in detail, you will soon want to poke your eyes out, but hey, the have is made to look nice to children.

I also hope that GW has not such a shalow playerbase like WoW with a bit moce mature players.

Anyway, can not wait to play GW.

  • TawnTawn Member Posts: 14

WoW has longer lasting appeal.. there is more content and it takes ages to level.. however it costs more to play...

Let me state QUITE CLEARLY that this in no way is a slight on GW. GW is WELL WORTH the money in terms of content.

More appeal assuming you liked it in the first place...

I played GW in the beta and loved it. Now I play WoW and kinda love that one too. So what happened to GW? I don't know. Max of 20 levels, which I heard you can max pretty fast. Then there will be gathering items and duelling. Duel Wars? Is it true that it has become SO pvp focused?

Please learn to use full stops!!!! (try saying what you wrote.. hehe)

Both games are good and both games have good storylines.. WoW has more history - but that doesnt necessarily make for a good game (though it does in this case).

I recommend to anyone considering GW to give it a go. Make sure you play past the tutorial section!!!! I cant abide those who slate GW and they havent even played into post-searing.. the game gets better as you are allowed to form larger and larger groups..

In any case, some people will eventually go back to WoW or something else.. but that isnt because GW is rubbish.. those people will have got their moneys worth and will have seen new possibilities for the MMORPG market.. there are lessons that all future games can learn from GW.

    incomparable.

It is ludicrous to suggest such a notion of considering WoW over Guild Wars or vica-versae.

They are two very different games, both in community, graphics, gameplay, involvement. The only similarity I can identify between the two genres is the advancement. Through WoW, I believe to advance to what -ever level is the limit- is the ultimate goal for those PvP goons out there (yes, I am a PvP goon) as in Guild Wars, once you are lvl20 you have access to very difficult areas even at the maximum level and still have fun (I am sure this is for WoW too) and get good "loot" for PvP use later on, whether it be GvG or just tournament play.

All in all, since Guild Wars has NO monthly fees, just try it our via a friend or something.

I know you'll make the right choice in the end. image

I wish no one replied this topic, as CrazyMonk proves in every single thread he's made so far that he's a hardcore and stubborn WoW fanboy who comes to here so as to flame GuildWar no matter what kind of replies posted in the threads he made. And he'll be going on regardless. And I'll be fed up of watching this thread bumped. Hopefully he will swear at some posters and cause this thread locked, I will be praying for that

Ummm, to the person who said Guild Wars has the 'cliche' mountains, jungles, deserts, etc... what else would you propose? There's only so many land types... perhaps ground made of jello with lollipops growing and ice cream sundaes blooming? :|

And to the person who asked if the game "has become PvP centric" .... OF COURSE!!! It's Guild Wars!

Personally I found WoW to be overrated.  Do a quest, turn it in, get a slightly harder but similar quest from that person, rinse repeat.  I didn't find any worthwhile way to alleviate the repetitivness of WoW.  With GW there is Pvp with arena type fighting, guild battling etc. which is a nice break from the main game.  From what I hear WoW has more high end content although I wouldn't know since I only played to level 23.  GW has virtually no content after the last mission other than Pvp.  WoW has better character customization in terms of race but GW has better job customization.  Both are very good games but WoW didn't live up to the "best mmo ever" hype for me.

IMO, Guild Wars has a good lasting appeal if you go on a journey to unlock everything for your pvp characters. That takes a whoole lot of time, if you're up for it. If you do unlock everything, you could say: "for this pvp situation, i need a character with so and so skills and so and so runes, and so and so weapons to be the most effective and contributing to the group." and within about 3 minutes, you got one.
bascially instead of having one character with a specific build you have ALL possible characters and character builds right in your account.

guild wars is 1 ov the most borin games ever, i dunno ow u can compare it 2 wow image
  • kleangkleang Member UncommonPosts: 25

I'm play both WoW and Guildwar but now I'm leave Wow.    The main reason is I'm boring with those grinding in Wow.  Running grind - In some warlock quest, I'm run and only run for 3 hours -*-, all quest need half of your play time to run, run to corpse is really boring, run to instance with flight path also need 20-30 min+.    While in Gw you just open Map and choose where you want to go image.

Also, those monster killing grind, professional grind, items hunting grind.  It's really fun when you are new to MMORPG world.  But if you play 20+ game and 4+ year like me, you just really boring becauase all the MMORPG are the same.   And you know those grinding is just because they want your monthly fee - NO OTHER REASON.  image

MMORPG just need revolution and innovation.  And Gw is the 1st step.  This game try to combine the fun-in-every-bit of offline game to online, no boring process, no waste of real life time.  Just keep walking Anet, your 1st step is well done.   image

your right? How can Guild Wars be compared to World Of Warcraft.  It cant, Guild wars is way out of WoW's league.  I'm with you, WoW sux, they both cannot be compared (I'm being sarcastic if any idiot cannot tell)

Well, I own and play both. Here is the pros of both in my oppinion:

    Guild Wars:

Better PvP, Better graphics, Good quests without too much grinding.

    World of Warcraft:

Loooong lasting gameplay, Better roleplaying possibilities, Better proffession specialization.

I enjoy both games greatly. If you want to buy only one of them, and you said you are not much of a PvP person, and you want a long lasting on-going experience, I'd say WoW is the choice. But when you get some money in your pockets again, go buy Guild Wars too so you can get some heart-throbbing PvP experiences too.

    Good Luck.
