It's made with Cryengine 3, the most graphically enhanced engine for MMO's currently out there.  Way to know what you're talking about, I'm pointing my finger at people who say the graphics are 'so-so'.  You can talk about style all you want, but you can't knock this game for using the most powerful graphics engine out there.  That, in my opinion, seems very ignorant.

Also, it's funny to see people mentioning how the siege system is dumbed down and messy.  This, after watching a very short clip where you can't really see much other than a mob of people and a few catapults, some people apparently think that seeing that makes them experts on the game and the mechanics of the siege system within it.  Absolutely hillarious.

And just to touch on the night lighting.  Dark nights in games such as MO just doesn't work.  Most people do not want to play games where they can't see.  Most developers do not want to promote players all hanging out in cities at night.  Adding a low light system would push away subs, make it hard on the servers because of player clusters, and piss people off in general.  It's a better idea to make it dark, but not too dark that you can't go out and do what you want to do.

Go walk into the wood at night if you want realistic lighting.  This is a game where players are supposed to have fun.  Sometimes you have to sacrifice realism for the sake of everyone else playing the game.

    WOW lol....

The engine has come along way since 2.0 if its supporting so much on the screen simultaneously...they're really going for immersion....impressed.

EDIT: I really cant imagine the person recording having anything but low settings while recording to get those frames outta the cryengine in that mess of a skirmish.

Asian Developed AAA Sandbox / Mild Theme Park MMORPG.

This kinda makes Bioware look like amateur devs.

Their game looks cartoony and has low rez textures, yet you still get like 10 fps when you see more than 40 players on the same screen on Ilium, not the mention how much of a lagfest it is... the game looks like crap and runs like crap

Yet... ArcheAge... the most graphically advanced MMORPG ever made.... has sieges of 200+ players and it works just fine...

    With CryEngine 3....

For one, the second I see Korean I want to alt-F4.  Secondly, between the Russians and Koreans on the mic, and the cluster-fudge of same looking classes looking so extremely disorganized, I can see that while they are "attempting" to create a more pvp realistic environment.

Again, they are missing part of the formula (Gods, I feel like I should give a class on siege warfare in an mmorpg).  Just because you put siege machines in a video game, does not mean you have anything fun going on.  That looked terrible. All the races and classes looked like a slightly different Korean.

    Here it is again:

If you are going to recreate siege warfare mechanics in a medieval fantasy mmorpg:

    1. Enemies must look different from you.  Otherwise we just have GW2 all over again with the same 5 races beating each other up, or Age of Conan, with the same 5 races beating each other up, or any other Asian grinder.  Making enemies visibly different other than a red name tag adds to the feel of depth and reality.

Unless that is, you wished that in the movie, The Lord of the RIngs, that the Rohan at Helm's Deep had just pvp'd themselves?  I mean, who needs to have orcs and Uruk'hai, Goblins and Cave Trolls, when we can just make ... 5 classes, right?

I get that MMORPG companies are hoping you are dum and as lazy as they are.  They want you to think it's okay to give you a game where everyone is a cut and paste model of each other, where my Jedi looks like your Sith, or my ranger and pet are exactly the same as yours, or where we complain until Taurens can be Paladins.  But in a company that is progressive and has a sense of real artistic vision, this sort of crap does not and should not happen.  So folks, there's more they can do for you than mass marketing and tweaking graphics, these companies can really give you something amazing.  You just have to let them know that you want another flavor OTHER than vanilla.

I'll leave it at that.  Too many companies advertise siege warfare and its like the clusterfudge we see above.  No thanks.

Ever heared of Clan Tags like in Lineage 2 with a system like that its easy as hell to see whos your enemy.

I doubt you'll have an issue recognising enemies from allies in a siege, if Lineage 2 or any other similar non factions MMO is an indication. For starters in a siege, clans used to declare that they wanted to attack the fortress. So basically all those declaring to attack had a different colour coding than those defending, say red and green. The neutrals had a different game. Now, neutrals could help either side, so extreme prejudice was used against them if found on the battlefield. In most occassions both sides were killing all neutrals not seated down (aka watchers).

Even in games where the armor pieces are distingtively different, line in SW:TOR or Rift, people were attacking or defending based on the colour coding more than the actual visuals. The same is even true for shooters like BF3 and COD and the name colour coding.

Distinguishing between friends and enemies was never an issue. I doubt it will be one in this game. In fact, I believe that Korean MMO developers have more experience both with factionless MMOs and open world warfare, so I don't expect amateur mistakes there.

These are player-made videos. We have no idea what they have their graphics set to. We do know that they are recording this footage, so we're dealing with a variety of different compressions and disabled features such as dynamic lighting, detailed shadows, and detailed textures.

Recording video is very demanding - even on the best systems.

Regardless, even if the game looked exactly like videos, I'd still be content, as I'm so sick and tired of the Theme Park.

You guys see the one piece flag on the warship? Or the mounted combat shooting arrows like link from zelda, I was like :O. Seriously for a mmo that doesnt have a fps feel like Darkfall and MO this looks pretty intence. Could you imagine being a random scounting out and look over a mountain flying over a castle with your glider just to see it getting seiged by poeple you dont know. I mean the potential this mmo has is even more astonishing to me right now then GW2. It make me sick to think that koreans already have a release date. However it makes me happy that they have bad copyright laws and were most likely to see a pserv of it sooner then later.

Finaly a game worth something in todays epic failures. If more game companies made games like this it would bring so much more to the table and 15/month would seem like its well spent.

I just hope they dont go F2P then P2W like so many asian games. That would kill it for me, a sandbox with a cash shop would be ugly. Especially if they try to make you pay a premium for the features lol.

But a year+ out still atleast, i hope this destroys everything out there like WOW did back in the day. Maybe more gaming companies will make games like this and we will get a variety for a change instead of the exact same game with new skins.

Yeah ,even though I am waiting for this mmorpg ALOT. (like only I think I could play long-term) I will skip it if it go f2p, cannot find any pleasure in playing sandbox in f2p or freemium system.  It just collide direvtly for me cash shop and sandbox that is.

I've seen this in quite a few videos, the sieging looks incredibly messy.  The graphics also look a lot less good than they did in the first official trailers where they showed off the scenery.  It sort of reminds me of Lego in a way, which is fine because it's fun, it's just not the adult MMO I am looking for I think, it's just all kinda random.

Ever thought that the guy who recorded the videos are beta testers that didnt had the graphic set to max?

Not everyone have a 2500 dollar PC you know, just a thought.

If it's not broken, you are not innovating.

I guess the small features are what intrigue me the most about this game, like digging out of a prison or climing a tree to get away from a creature. It makes for a new level of gameplay to be able to get out of the reach of a monster or trying to escape from prison.

Agreed! I just want to sail the seas, fight a Krakken, and be home in time for a disco party. This game meets all 3 of my requirements.

Enter a whole new realm of challenge and adventure.

    Here's another great fan-made preview that's new.

It's got dancing, pvp, exploring, ship to shore combat, etc.

They've spent a fraction of the money it took to many SW:TOR on this game so far, and yet have surpassed Bioware by miles. I am quite sure the patriot in people would hate to admit it but right now Korea is the place to be for inovative MMO development.

Yes these videos are filmed by players with nerfed graphics settings, there are however plenty of higher grade videos out there to look for if graphics are an issue for you. Please take into account however that this is developed with the CryEngine 3, same thing that made Crysis 2. Take into account also that on screen hundreds of players have been seen, something Bioware couldn't manage with 200 million dollars, worse graphics, and less interactive scenery.

Ohh and did I mention that everything on the field of battle has collision detection?

So Bioware can't handle more than 40 people on screen at once, has significantly worse graphics, on battlefields like Ilum where the only interactive items are turrets you right click to blow up and 0 collision detection.

Archeage has managed 100-200 man fights, full collision detection, significantly more beautiful scenery and character models.

What the hell did Bioware spend all that money on?!

Lastly to those who consider the siege to be a mess, stop thinking about how that one looked, it's not some battleground that plays out the same way each time without fail.

Take two armies, one defending one attacking, a castle, a bunch of siege equipment bake for 1 hour and see what you have at the end. Any tactic is possible, any outcome imaginable, climb out of the themepark mind set and consider what tools you have to make every day a different one.

I believe Bioware spent that money on lavish office space and story line, apparently. They seemed pretty happy with the amount of voice overs that are in SWTOR. Voice overs are something I expect in a game like Skyrim where it's just me, but in an MMO where all that matters is clan vs clan, reputation, farming for gear I could careless what some fake NPC has to say while I collect one of the many hundreds of quests I need to get through.

I'm glad Jake Song is spending the money where it's actually needed to create replayability that should be in an MMO.

My worry is they can't get a publisher. No one seems interested in picking up the game for NA/EU.

This game will be the best if it releases with what we have seen and that is CB footage.

Looks good, lots of potential. We'll see what happens...

    Awesome stuff.

Honestly, even if this game came to EU half done or bugged to no end I'd still fork 50 bucks to support it just for the effort.

We need games like this and we need  more of them.

I feel like the genre is  finally starting to move in a right direction.

From Tera's combat, GW2's dynamic events and a departure from the 'holy trinity', TSW's leveless system and awesome setting all the way to ArcheAge, (and not to forget SWTOR's massive failure which will hopefully put the final nail in the WoW-clone coffin),  our (or at least my)  gaming future is starting to look less depressing.

I'm sure they won't have a hard time finding a publisher. ArcheAge is picking up some serious hype in NA. There is a demand for this type of game and nobody has been able to deliver.

I think we'll see this game sooner than we think.

As long as it does not spend 2 years "westernizing" the game, any decent company would do

Don't know what this game is but I am very interested. I have been looking for a good castle siege game sine Lineage 1.

Problem isn't finding a publisher, it's finding a decent publisher! God forbid this game falls into the wrong hands

  • hcoelhohcoelho Member UncommonPosts: 529

This game will be great !

A nice mix from mmo styles.

I'm eager to play it, it's a shame there are no publisher in this side of the world yet.
