Servers down..... again.....

So I get up Saturday, I've got a few hours free time, try to log in... servers down, maintenance for small patch...
Next chance to play today... guess what servers down again...
Had it last week too...
This was the reason I gave for cancelling my subscription last week. I have a few days left on my free month but it doesn't even look like I'll be able to use them.
I won't ever go back to this game unless they reduce the cost by 25% for european players.

Yeah I too wish MMOs didnt have scheduled maintenance.... would be awesome in the long run I predict.
Seriously tho, I'm sorry servers happen to be down the only two times per week you can play but its not a huge problem overall for the population of SWtor and I'm pretty sure Bioware wont move scheduled maintenance to accomodate for your playtimes. Gl in next MMO tho!
today is the planned maintenance so you planned your gametime wrong today......i had the same feeling last saturday.
they are losing subs bcause of their server down times tough.......alot me thinks.
It's been the same day/time since launch, plus they are releasing a patch.

Hopefully they will have seperate times for EU and US maintenance soon. Apparently they are going to be having a meeting this week about maintenance times (specifcally regarding EU times) and get back to us later this week with their decision.
For extra bonus they shut down the site too while they scratch their heads trying to fix bugs. lol bastards

Yeah that sucks.
Why are they doing this? Why can't they just let the servers run themselves? Can't they just launch the game and then leave? My god think of all the money they would save if they just would leave the game alone and let it run itself. Why are they bothering to try to fix things?
Another thing, why don't they tell us ahead of time when they are doing this? At least make it THE SAME TIME EVERY WEEK! C'mon BW! Why are you trying to make the game better? Jeez!
Oh yeah why don't they alter the rotation of the Earth so that all maitenance times are early in the morning! That should be priority #1 BW!

When the actual coding required to have seperate EU and US maintenance times wouldn't be that hard and other smaller companies like Trion manage to have seperate EU and US maintenance I can see your point.

It's not like there was one global server so I still don't see a reason for not scheduling things around everybody's time zones.

Except it isn't... week before last it was postponed without warning, and then carried out 2 days later only to be followed by a ninja patch and downtime the following day.
I'm not moaning about the fact that they schedule maintenance, but for me, the time I have available and the fact that in the first month of playing this must have happened 6 times to me at least I feel like I can only play less than 1/2 of what I would have otherwise.
Hence, monthly sub just can't be justified.

Admitedly, Saturdays downtime sucked, but it's not like it's going down every Sat.

I have to agree with you. With all the money being thrown around they could have done this a better way. It shows the utter lack of knowlege BW has regarding how to run a MMO.
I'm not a BW fanboy, I see the mistakes they are making. But creating totally useless threads like this one is quite silly. Therefore I am also going to act silly in them!

Maybe they simply use the wrong technology. There actually are IT systems which can be patched at runtime with zero downtime. Ask Ericcson and their telecommunications system with a availability of >99%.

Edit: And for the record, such telecommunication systems have a way higher load than our measly MMOs.

You guys dont get it because you dont understand that they take down the servers in the middle of the day for us Europeans. If they did it in US there would be riot in the streets. This is inspite of SW:TOR arena showing that around 35% of players are from Europe so Bioware are basically saying a big **** you to 35% of their customers.

no one who plans to continue playing is quitting because of downtime. EVERY MMO has downtime suck it up and deal with it or quit and quit your next MMO when they do the same thing 1 month after launch. All these threads make me feel sorry for how stupid the MMO playerbase is.
I know you are not, at least not here. But the OP said that he was quitting because BW is actively trying to make this game better on a weekly basis with the occasional unscheduled downtime that ALL MMO's have had to do at launch + few months. To him that is unacceptable behavior for a responsible company that if they did not do this would lose even more players.
THAT is why I'm making fun of the people bitching about a scheduled downtime that happens every week at the same time.
