So, I love Star Wars and actually like the game, it's just that I feel like once I've played through one area, I've played through them all and it's getting redundant. It's linear, it's getting boring and I've just lot interest rather quickly.
These companies are just looking to cash in instead of creating vibrant expansive worlds to explore and be a part of.
I started missing the vastness of Everquest and the fun of the first person perspective. So, I started a new EQ2 Account and am really enjoying myself. Lots of new stuff since I last played a couple years ago and honestly, it still looks really good. So, I now have a Vampire Necromancer to play with.

I find that, at least for me anyways, as time goes on I see more and more posts saying the EXACT things that I said SWTOR would be/is months before SWTOR's launch even hit.
I now have proper faith in my ability to give a proper overview of an MMO product's viability & sustainability after launch.
Right now however, I'm currently testing my ability to see the longevity of products I deem "poor". My current target is June 2012 for SWTOR's subscription numbers to be at a MINIMUM of 500k if not less. Anyone else's thoughts ?
ps: Good short, objective, and on task post OP!
The Theory of Conservative Conservation of Ignorant Stupidity:
Having a different opinion must mean you're a troll.
I canceled too, the games breaks and gets boring at 50. And if you look at my last posts i was really defeinding SWTOR.
The game is fun, but the grinding at 50 is terrible, and there is no way i just redo another character again
lmfao...didn't you sub for 6 months?
I'm feeling the same, but alas I was dumb and bought a 60day time card so I still have another 1.5 months left.
Granted highest I've gotten is 34 but still the game can't hold my interest....
Why are so many threads here allowed where people just tell us that they cancel there sub? Why?
I mean, yes, great for you. Glad that you find out that you dont like the game, superb that you want to go back to your old game. But why posting this? Why? Warum? Pourqoi? Por qué?
I predict it will stabalize around 300k.
I'm not trolling or anything. That is my opinion.
Huge Star Wars fan here too and amazed that with so much money and production resources invested, the game can be so shallow and unoriginal. Glad I was able to cancel before my sub kicked in.
The problem isnt the game its us. We come from games like EQ, EQ2, WOW with massive content tons of stuff to do and real open worlds with multiple classes/races that all start in unique areas with unique quest. The last few years MMOs have become more and more linear why ? Because companys fail to copy the very thing that made and makes EQ,WOW and even EQ2 enjoyable the replayability with difference race/classes that start in different areas. Look at rift 2 factons 2 areas you do the exact same quest no matter what you pick. Look at swtor after level 10 you're doing the exact same quest for every char you make besides the class quest which is a SMALL part of your leveling to begin with.
For me 6 months from now will tell us if SWTOR will be a great MMO or AOC, War. If they want to keep people they need to start adding content in massive patches because once you're 50 there isnt enough content at all and the whole idea to make alts is absurd when the experience isnt unique you will be doing 90% of the same quest you did for your main.
By the way you guys predicting 500k 300k people have no clue what you're talking about and are saying this game will flop harder than war or AOC did if you believe they will have under a 25% retention rate. They sold well over 2 million copies saying only 25% will stick around is absurd . I played War and AOC betas and launch the games were in way worse shape.
I tried at launch and several times since then when I needed a break form my normall mmos and I cannot for the life of me get into EQ2.
...and I loved EQ. EQ2 does nothing for me at all.
Least crafting isn't as insane as it used to be in that game. So...yeah...
Their f2p design is freaking awful too. It is like they looked over everyone else's concepts and went with exactly didn't work to use for theirs.
One of the worst and restrictive ones I have ever seen.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
It's a discussion board for MMOs. They're posting their opinion on the game in relation to why they're quitting.
A more relevant question would be, why do some people insist in posting in threads about players quitting questioning why the OP bothered posting?
If "Im quitting" threads are annoying, don't read them.
Personally I like reading quitting threads, because they usually reveal shortcomings of a game that is otherwise gets lost in a sea of fanboyism and hype.
Yes... But it doesnt change my opinion haha
Something to do with the typical gamer complainer, I suspect. But its not that easy.
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
'Cause the 'arent' mostly tossed up by 'HATERS'.
I now they are HATERS, they tossed up an 'I quit" post.
Don't expect to see much quality info about a game in a post about how they quit. THat is like basing your opinion about McDonalds on my responce 10- min after my order is F-ed up.
To give them a bit of self justification. Cant have them going around thinking I dont care if or why they play a game...
I said they help reveal the shortcomings of a game, not that they give a full picture of what the game is. They're just the alternative view of the game, that's counter to all of the marketing hype BS that tries to candy coat everything.
I'd rather get a full picture of what the game is from reviews and opinions, both positive and negative, before deciding whether or not to drop $60 on a game like SWTOR.
Considering that a lot of people have posted that they've quickly grown bored with how linear and instanced the game is, I'm glad I read "I quit" posts like this, because it saved me $60.
rofl, hurting your feelings isn't against the rules man. why don't you actually go off and play this amazing game if you don't want to read mmorpg.com forums.
Well, I have ended my sub at this point as well. My trooper (commando) is about 80% of the way to 50 (level 49 and some change), so I'll likely finish up in the two weeks I have left. Its too bad as ToR started out rather enjoyable. But as I progressed into the 30's and 40's it was more and more obvious that things had been rushed, and many corners cut.
As for EQ2... I've tried it twice now. Once at launch, and again a year or two back. I just can't really get into it. Most of the areas are ghost towns (thats to be expected with an older game at this point), and its just not a good enough game to make up for many of its flaws.
Not certain what I'll play at this point. I wish FireFall would get out of beta, but from the looks of it, it may be summer before they finally launch (or take the beta tag off), they are running the same type of system that Gmail did. That worked ONCE... But its more annoying than clever at this point.
Given that I have eight 85's, I'm unlikely to go back to WoW until MoP comes out. I have two 50's in Rift (warrior and rogue) and I can't really see any reason to go back there either. Oh well, I'm sure something will show up.
It's always been my contention that the game SWTOR most ressembled was Everquest 2 with all its strengths and, of course, all of is many, many faults - including small, linear landscapes, densely grouped mobs, horrible grind. Not EQ2 now, of course, but EQ2 at its launch way back in 2005.
This is no surprising since the studio head of SWTOR was Gordon Walton who, prior to taking the job at SWTOR, was lead developer at SOE, the developer of... EQ2.
He obviously refused to listen to anyone who, over the years said, 'EQ2 doesn't work properly. Tht's why the game it was set up to beat - WoW - has left it so far behind'.
I think that's a reasonable estimate if the history of all MMO sub numbers is anything to go by.
It's actuallly very sad. If Bioware had not been lazy and slapdash and actually made a few tweaks to the game structure in development, if couild have had a subcriber base of millions right from the start.
Becauuuuuse....if John logs in one day and there's no-one around on his server, he would be asking "where did everybody go? Why did they leave?".
What's better? Staying ignorant as to why people are leaving or reading their experiences? It just might help kick the devs in the butt to get a move on.
LOL most of the people that have been defending the game are the ones that were suckers and bought the 6 month sub.
I've learned over the last 10-20 games never buy more than one month, and if possible avoid even that.
I told people for weeks leading up to the release how poorly the game was designed and almost got flamed off the forums for it, now the same people that made death threats against me for being honest are rage quitting in droves.
TBH I am kinda glad people did not listen to me, now that they have been burned once again by the hype and lies, maybe next time they were be a little more cautious and open minded.
On to Tera...
I wouldn't say they are lazy.
They just put most of their effort into only two things.
I might get banned for this. - Rizel Star.
I'm not afraid to tell trolls what they [need] to hear, even if that means for me to have an forced absence afterwards.
P2P LOGIC = If it's P2P it means longevity, overall better game, and THE BEST SUPPORT EVER!!!!!(Which has been rinsed and repeated about a thousand times)
Common Sense Logic = P2P logic is no better than F2P Logic.
Closure?

Love and compassion for our fellow gamers? We don’t want to see anyone else make the same mistake due to bad information.
Boy: Why can't I talk to Him?
Mom: We don't talk to Priests.
As if it could exist, without being payed for.
F2P means you get what you paid for. Pay nothing, get nothing.
Even telemarketers wouldn't think that.
It costs money to play. Therefore P2W.
