TERA gives you a choice of group questing, hunting BAMS, grinding, Solo questing or doing instances for EXP.

Now i dont see this "linear" thing you are talking about. Not all games will start with 500 ways to level up and am sure that you are a sandbox fan because ever since the start of MMOs, Themeparks are still the same. Its clearly not for you and If you were actually following it for 2 years like you said. You would know  at least what you getting into and you clearly didnt.

Technically hunting BAMS is grinding too. Just grinding on bigger mobs. Group questing and solo questing is still questing, not really a different option, just a different way of doing the same option and instances don't exist at all levels which I doubt you can do to max level. Even if you could instance run from the first to max level, that is technically grinding, just in an instance. So, the choices are actually quite smaller then you think.

Now youve lost me, do you expect a game to have no grind in any way...because every MMO in existence is using grind to level up, especiialy if you regard everything as grind like youve just done.

Solo questing isnt fun, so ill group quest because its more enjoyable, whether they are both questing or not is irrelevant, hunting BAMs may be grinding, but its a form of grinding I enjoy, so ill do that instead of quests. Every game has grinding to level up, just pick the way you like best.

Just fixed a few interior things to function properly.

Considering they are releasing a big update (hopefully prior of launch or together with it) the game could change quite a bit but only time will tell. Most likely they are just as most other developers using the betas for marketing and stresstesting the server structure though.

Not much I can do to explain if something that simple lost you. If you say everything in an MMO is grinding then grinding isn't an alternative way to level up or something else to do, now is it?

Just different ways of grinding are alternative ways of leveling up. Pick what you enjoy best or mix it up.

There are ways you can mix things up as you level they just haven't replaced the "standard" way of questing.  The rifts in Rift were nice but they touted that as the final groundbreaking solution when it was a slight variation.  WoW does it with dynamic phasing that changes the game as you move along but the elements are still similar.

I think part of the problem is us.  A lot of us have been playing these things for year across multiple major titles.  I noticed right away that TERA was a standard quest experience.  I still enjoyed it though because I didn't stew on it and just enjoyed what was in front of me.  It was easy with this game lol.

I did see "phasing" of an NPC during the end of the starter isle so they have the functionality.  If you like TERA but want to see a more complex quest progression go to their main forums and start a thread:

Just not worth my time anymore.

You got to get past the 20's in any game to get off the rails bro. The do that now for all the wow retards to be able to comprehend and latch on to the bread crumb trail otherwise they'll quit and say how they cant find nothing and its trash.  I wish they would make games that open up from the start and make you use your goddam brain. Vangaurd was very sandboxy, quest hub then a big map with directions in the question dialog, you know like it used to be before wow practically walked you over to your objective.

This was probably responded to but...

You could definitely delete characters on the US servers.   One that I deleted and remade to another class was level 21...  Actually I deleted and remade that character a lot but 21 was the highest it got when I did this.

There is text there that says after 7 days the character cannot be recovered by any means.

I don't really think that's the case of Tera. The quests still gets you from one to another. Not to mention all the "!" on top of the mobs screaming "kill me to get credit for your quests!!!"

I don't think Tera is a bad game but I am on the fence of getting it or not. It is a themepark game no matter how you look at it.

I just hope the action combat will remain a fun factor for me.

Btw, Tera shows you where your mobs are if you click on the name in the quests. Go there and you see all the "!". It is not less hand holding than WoW, it is actually MORE hand holding.

I expected TERA to be a linear themepark, so I am not much disappointed here. My hope was TERA won´t offer another "traditional gameplay" of which combat is the biggest part in my opinion. So I am pleased what I saw in the sneak peak.
That is the reason why I enjoyed games like Wizard 101 or Atlantica: both are linear, but offer different gameplay. This might be a reason I won´t enjoy ArchAge or to a degree GW2 for a long time.

It really sounds like you and I are looking for the same thing but it also seems like we are a select few uhtil a company goes against the current grain and takes a chance.

I lay my hope as you do in some upcoming games, mine being EQNext and really I hope that 38 Studio's does something different considering the companies founder was a heavy EQ player.

Until then I know that I will spend 50  bucks here and there and pay a few months sub but in the end its my entertainment and really its not all that expensive as many other things are. I keep my eye out for new games and hope that they will not be swayed by share holders but keep thier original ideas alive.

Here is my complaint list in one little post..

People bad mouthing or being negative about a game not even out of beta and that was open about certain elements being gone or not operational. I myself dont even know if there will be multiple starting area's, I hope so.

People not understanding that many of us are the few, the niche.

People complaining that a PvE oriented game has sucky PvP, really?

Anyway, thats it and good night.

You are complaining about elements that they never said wouldnt be in the game. Why complain about something nobody promised they would change. If you followed the game for the 2 yrs  as you said you did you would know it was only Combat and the Political System, at least thats what I understood.

You can be as critical as you want about a Beta if the elements being complained about are IN the beta & ARe operational.

They didn't just "take out" the non-linear elements of the game. THAT IS the first 1-20 levels of the game. More importantly, TERA has been out in KOREA for over a YEAR and it failed hard. Now, the failure COULD be blamed on the specific "Korean" market that doesn't really conform to western ideals. However, there is talk of them revamping the 1-40 area.

Again, i've done this "song & dance" before with MANY BETAs in the past. "Sweeping" changes just simply do NOT occur before launch of a product. Quite frankly, TERA being released in the EU & US is a "More Content" version of what the Koreans were given.

Now, as for the US & EU's version of TERA releasing in May all I have to say is that so far the 1-20 experience is a Linear Hand-Holding piece of Themepark HappyFunTime. If YOU like Themeparks then this game is definitely for you in its current iteration.

Again, where did you read that it was such a different experience as far as leveling progression. I myself followed the game and reailized that it wasnt all that different from everything else out there. I went into this beta knowing it would be the same level progression, linear if you would, so I had an open mind to focus on other things.

HOWEVER, if you were like me (as many TERA fans were in the same boat in the West) expecting a Non-Linear Non-HandHolding Quest MMO then you should be warned. If the 1-40 "revamp" does NOT drastically change the dynamic of the 1-20 experience TERA isn't a non-Themepark fan's cup of tea.

I agree with your OP to some degree just not the fact that we complain about things that we knew would be in the game. If the combat system mechanic was screwed up and didnt work I would agree  and have no issue with someone complaining.

Lots of derailing going on here suddenly :(. I think many of you need to re-read my OP :/.
