You know why I think this will be a great MMO?

Trolldefender99Trolldefender99 Member UncommonPosts: 416

Because they showed more of their game when it was just alpha (not even beta), than most MMOs show in their beta and up to release. Heck, some MMOs (and they've failed or went free to play) keep an NDA up into release OR even past it. Granted, GW2 has an NDA in their closed beta (except for press)...but they've still shown tons of their game. They even have let people play their alpha product.

That shows me they KNOW they have a good game and aren't afraid to show it off.

I hope it'll be great and last a long time. Game devs are very prone to getting tunnel vision and end up missing key parts of a game that make it shitty. Anyone that was a fan of Saints Row 2 and got super excited for Saints Row 3 knows what I'm talking about.

But I'm gonna trust anet because like you said, they've shown us what they're doing and are just telling us vauge stuff like "it's gonna be exciting and fun"

Yep, most of the hype is player side.

Other companies say, Epic this and Epic that, and then spend millions on CGI to boost it.

So far Anet said, try this, and the players said EPIC this and EPIC that. That's the difference. But today we saw the first hype from Anet, the world PVP. After reading what they have in it,  I keep saying that  it can't be that good, just can't. right?

One of the cool things also is that, they let the Press join first in beta and have them record all they can to judge it and show the world what the game is about, usually companies tend to bring the press in last.

^This. Seeing how I've done my fair share of hyping :P

Well we should see whether the WvW lives up to the hype next week, as I'm sure it will be a part of the Press Beta. Only reason why ArenaNet would provide this info dump before hand.

    Don't worry, it won't be.

It's hard to say but considering people that tried out GW 2 at GC and PAX (including me) and Anet saying all these things in the Manifesto which became true once you play it. I can say that WvW is gonna be amazing.

    I pretty much agree.

I also think it holds even more true for Archeage.

XL's confidence in not having a NDA at this early stage is inspiring.

Well, alot of people will say WoW is a great MMO because it runs smooth too.

"great" here is almost a loaded term because it's so subjective.

At least back in the day, I really enjoyed WoW.  They combined elements of other games and were the first to provide a beginning to end directed quest path and achieve unprecedented mainstream success with it.

One might still argue that it's great because what it's trying to do it does very well.  Or even if it has lost its way and succumbed to lazyness, hubris and poor decisions, we can call it "good" because it's at least providing a polished, stable experience.

I think the standard by which GW2 or any game should be judged is how well it does what it intends to do.  For instance, I'm not a fan of sandboxes, so Archeage doesn't excite me.  But I'm not going to say it's not a great game if the audience it appeals to loves it.

Which will make this game the mistress and not the ball and chain. TSW, SWTOR, TERA all have subs, so the pressure is on to play and get your money's worth. While GW2 will just be there, for when its time to have some no pressure fun.

also f2p ppl will complaint less and play more.

Lol, until GW2 is like, "you said you'd leave your WoW for me"

and you have to be like "I can't leave her right now, the children in my guild need me."

and then you buy a nice dress in the shop to make her feel better.

I would be excited about this game if it didn't have so much instancing. When are we going to get back to real MMOs?

haha well speaking only for myself, 50 cents a day has never given me any pressure.

I sit on a man's back, choking him and making him carry me, and yet assure myself and others that I am very sorry for him and wish to ease his lot by all possible means - except by getting off his back.

I think he might be getting confused with SWTOR.

OP, not to insult, but I believe you are confused.

GW2 (alpha) is a professional testing. Beta in MMO terms is purely marketing. What they shown you so far, were developed areas full of polish. many products in gaming do this is showcases like E3, Cons, etc.

    Indeed

Although if they are showing the game to the press it must be at a playable state atleast

people forget, that the "brand new car fresh cent " wears off over time. This stuff sounds interesting at first, but soon, people will realize that its the same concept that Rift does with "Instant Adventures"

then that feeling fades off. it happen with Rift, what makes you think it wont happen here? Anet masked the quest well, just like Rift did, but over time, the truth comes out.

How long will players continue to do nothing but public quest?

The Mist sounds pretty awesome, but I will wait until I see more before taking a plunging into the unknown.

No its not the same concept as Rift does with instant adventures- its the same concept as DAOC an very old game that people still are playing because of features that people don't grow tired off. So this is not a case of the cult of the new, but a case of returning to whats its all about

you could argue that ArenaNet masked the quest- , but that is not something they did with the DE system. It's actual another feature that replaces quests, often overlooked! image

And to say that people will do nothing but PQs is simply not understanding why PQs didn't work, and why DE's are tottally different and will work.

btw isn't this another case of a MMOExposed post that will never get a reply, at leave an impression of random posting and no following of topics?
