umm, i am interested in both games, and i never wanted people think that I was gonna start a flame war. I'm still a newbie in this forum, so my apologies to everybody
well atm i play both. they are both good games for different resons. But WoW is alot easier to learn about, but it does get boring if u dont get to 60 but FFXI can be a very fun game, lots fo jobs to level, getting advanced jobs. WoW is really fun at 60 getting amazing gear doing high level instances ut the choice is yours i would get obht if u have the money.
FFXI imo is one of the worst mmorpgs I've played. The forced grouping is terrible and waiting for a group is even worse. It takes on average about an hour to form a group to go XP. If the group sucks then more then likely it will disband shortly after and you will have to form another group again. If you don't mind spending more time forming groups then actually gaining xp then you might like ffxi. On top of all this, The economy is owned by the Japanese. The game released in Japan years prior to North america release and of course... the japanese jumped all over this oppurtunity to take control of the economy. The strong gets stronger and the weak gets weaker. I don't even understand how people can play this game. This game is not solo friendly, The crafting is terrible and The community imo sucks.
The ONLY good thing about this game was the combat system. Combat chains and Magic Bursts make combat interesting. Instead of mindless hacking or casting you have to pay attention to each attack. But with the good comes the bad. Unfortunatley there are many many people who just aren't good at executing these chains.
I played a RDM to 50 (yes I did the level limit quest) .... As many of you know.. The RDM is one of the more versatile and active classes out there. When I saw people fail to perform their job with basic classes it really makes the game unenjoyable. FFXI brought me more pain then pleasure.
Now for WoW.....
WoW is the best mmorpg on the market. The two biggest problems about it are the Community and the Difficulty.
The community in WoW is by far the worst out of any mmorpg. But what do you expect when you have so many customers..... and for the difficulty well...... there is none. The game is extremely too easy.
The best way I can describe WoW is..... like the drug ecstacy. It's the best high you will EVER get. But the high comes down quick and you will soon realize that this drug... err... game isnt good for long time use. I played it for 5 months... The best mmorpg experience I've ever had but when it all was over...... WoW was too easy and had no longevity in terms of mmorpgs.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.
I liked WoW personally. But don't get me wrong, FFXI was a very good game. WoW is like FFXI with PVP and an easier leveling system. FFXI was a very hard game but they seemed to always have something going on in the community, such as a fair or something. WoW beats FFXI in customization, but the character models in FFXI are alot better. Also, the jobs are much better in FFXI then in WoW's. The item system in FFXI is alot more restricting then WoW's, since WoW's items arent class specific, whereas every FFXI item is only available to certain classes. WoW in my opinion. But either game you end up buying you will end up liking.
i play on australian servers because racism is acceptable there
Both games rewl, I would pick FFXI only because I quit WoW after about 6 months. FFXI will ultimately last longer. But that having been said, WoW was probably the 2nd most fun I ever had in an MMO, after EQ and Ultima which are tied . And that's one hell of a tall order.
I'd go with FF. Harder, takes longer to get things accomplished, but the pay off is a better community imo. Maybe I've just had some bad luck with WoW, but the ease of gameplay seems to attract the anti-socials... and I definitely prefer a great community in a game.
i mean i was wondering why every one likes WOW and so i looked at the screenshots of it and the graphics pooie ANd you can play ff11 and have plenty of things to do!
Honestly dude I don't think anyone one's opinons matter, because you have to pay the 50 or 30(is it 30 now for FFXI?) for the game and you have to install it and pay the monthly fee, no one has to pay it for you, so if you don't like it your stuck with it. WoW comes with a 14 day free trial so try and find someone with a unused one and try it out. If you can't do that then I suggest reading reviews, checking out screenshots, what i did was i watched my friend play for awhile before I brought WoW, and I am an avid fan of the Final Fantasy series, so FFXI was a must play for me, if you don't have alot of time play WoW, easy solo, easy grouping, you can beat mobs 5 levels higher depending on your class. FFXI is heavily group oriented, but as I said you have to pay for it.
P.S. sorry for the long ass post /lol

True Power.... is the power to choose wisely and THAT i already possess
If you want a game that has lots of content and stuff to do up to the final levels, and is hard enough to really weed out all the bad players, then pick up FF XI. But if you want a game that is easy to get into, easy to learn, and fun in the first few months, then play WoW. I had a 55 Tarutaru BLM on Ifrit. FF XI is still one of the best mmorpg I have ever played, it just gets a bit tedious upwards of 50. I dont know how many times I tryed to get the stupid Papyrus from the liches in the Necropolis for limit break 1... And any of your RSE and JSE is pretty hard to get. But once you do get into the game, it is really rewarding. Becaust the Japs inflated the market, you had to be a resorcefull NA player to make it. I had some much fun making money by gardening and mining... And when you get good equipment, you really had to work you ass of for it, so it seems wort it. On the other side, I had a 45 Gnome Mage on Icecrown in WoW. I liked the game, especially since it was such a breath of fresh air from the bull crap that was early EQ II. But as stated before, the game is easy. Everybody has pretty much the same equipment, up untill you have to start the big raids into MC and the like. The classes are pretty distinct, but blizzard has done an incredible job of nerfing some classes, and make other impossible to beat in PvP, which is really this best thing going for WoW. All in all, I left FF XI because it became too tedious to get anyting done. And I quit WoW because of the cookie cutter classes, unbalanced pvp, and general noob mechanics. Oh yeah, the community it WoW sux as well. I was apalled by all the children and their vulgar language in the communtiy. In any case, I hope that helps out a bit.
i fully get what u mean since like i siad they both had simliarties but differnces since no u dont get to ride a giant tiger in ff xi or u dont ride a giant flying ship in WoW but they both coutain magic users, fighters they both coutain some similarties but differnces as well meaning no game is like the other & think about it true horizons had better stuff but look how it turned out the chances of meeting another player is 1-100,000,000,000+ (1) for every person that ever plays so it holds up pretty good & if u played anarchy its been holden up since 2000 or was it 2001 o well get what i mean?
Oh i was reading this and i just had to get in and say something. First of all about the graphics. I have played both games and i must say u need to see ashenvale in the early over looking the north coast to truely understand the graphics put into WOW. Its amazing. Now about the game play. Just because FFXI is slow to level does not make it hard. Its not hard at all to level in FFXI it just takes time. There is no personal challenge because all you have to do is ride on the coattails of your party. Combat in ffxi is straight on. Camp Strat. All the way through. No environmental challenges to speak of. Seriously picture this as an FFXI experience.
Player 1 "Find a good camp.." Player 2 "oh the best camps are ones u pull mobs to and there is nothing else around" Player 3 "ya lets find a camp with nothing around so we can pull mobs one at a time endlessly forever until one of us falls asleep from exhaustion or boredom"
This is the WOW experience
Player 1: "ok the objective is to take the general he is locked away in the stronghold and there is 30 mobs between us and him. They all group have special powers and we could be fighting 5-8 at a time."
You only need one player talking to get the idea.
Dynamic Gameplay is what its called. Linear Gameplay is extremely boring NOT difficult. Many of the people make the mistake of seeing time it takes to level as difficulty. Longevity in FFXI is achieved through a boring process of leveling without objectives. There are quests with objectives in FFXI but they do nothing to progress your level. To level u need to camp. This form of MMORPG is done. Its the failing of a weak and tired system where they had to do this because computers did not have the graphics and power for dynamic content. I frankly do not understand people who enjoy this type of content and gameplay because there is nothing in it. But often these players are those who have played EQ and have gotten used to this method of gameplay. I think its safe to say this method is over. Any game using this method of play is doomed to be marginalized.

Well i am sorry 45 level is nothing in wow.. kind of like level 20 in ffxi. Level 55 in ffxi is like hmm level 58 in wow maybe 60. Having Tier 3 gear from Blackwing is like ffxi level 75
What u have to realize is WOW is Gear based. Your gear is your level once u hit 60 in WOW. So many players here i can bet anything never had a single piece of tier 2 gear which makes it all noob opinion. its like someone level 20 telling you about end game ffxi.
I on the other hand have I over 400 combined levels in FFXI and have 2 level 60 characters in WOW with tier 2 gear. Read my ealier post on my assesement of linear play vs dynamic play.
Ok i can see you think this is a flame post. I disagree. This person asked for an honest opinion from people on how the two games are. Since i have played both to high levels i think i am the most qualified here to give an opinion on the subject. I would prefer you to not post your, move it to another forum flame and i see that as a flame because your not contributing to the topic of the discussion and being short and insulting. You don't think my opinion is worthy as i am not a ffxi lover. Which could not be further from the truth. I like ffxi i just dont think it is as good as WOW. If you have a good graphics card you can see very quickly that WOW graphics is better then ffxi. In real terms T&L exists in wow, large form textures and full screen glow effects vertex animation and smooth shading. The better developed textures is the big one. Now also having full environmental World movement is nice. You can jump off a cliff to your death or swim or even jump to another level of the stair well in a town. Whatever u want. FFXI on the other hand has to offer a more complex crafting system full weather effects with a world weather system, dynamic economy and more rare and difficult items to obtain. FFXI has challenges which do make it hard in a different way but also i have the feeling a more "waste your time" kinda way. I personally think it has to do with how fast u want to progress through the game. People who like slow progress (not harder, just slow) and don't have a really good graphics system should play ffxi. Anyone who likes fast dynamic and challenging action should go with WOW. PVP is a lot of fun and frustrating but i wouldn't have it any other way.
I did NOT say to move it to another forum, nor did I call it a flame. I said I was going to take it to the WoW forum, because I had written a post about WoW, and then deleted it because it doesn't belong here. Then I decided not to, since I don't play anymore, so I have no reason to care.
I have never played FFXI at all, for the record. Just came along here to check it out.
