Telon on medium after so long at low pop.

Been checking on the server populations a while now.  Telon is back to medium!  This along with the updates coming soon are enough to keep me subbed.  Will be nice to get back to some PVE since taking break from Rift.  I don't think Vanguard needs to have tons of players, just a solid population of mature, challenge seeking individuals.  If they make the game smoother, and get rid of lots of bugs we will have a real PVE game again.

I would be excited if SoE hadn't already removed most of the features that made Vanguard good. Now it's just another quest grinding casual game. And no plans of adding in any PvP either. They're doing the EQ route of just keep jacking up the level cap.

But I really hope it comes back. It deserves to be the top PvE MMO.

I imagine you are referring to the corpse run being taken out.  I agree, that was a cool part of the game.  I sincerely dreaded dying :)  But arent the penalties for death still going to be in game?  Meaning loss of experience gained primarily.  (I know that is pretty big deal after several deaths)

Also, isn't the move toward casual play still fairly minor compared to most?  I know Vanguard is still the only PVE game where mobs chased me down relentlessly until I was dead, or miraculously escaped.  Which other features are going to be phased out that might decrease my excitement?  I admit I never maxed a character in Vanguard and played in bits because of the low population.

And what features are they, please do not include Riftways because they changed nothing, you can still travel the way you did before Riftways.Faction between races is a one feature ill say was scrapped by SOE that i was not happy about. As for PvP,well it had two FFA open PvP servers but without the population what was the point in keeping them open. You will still lose xp but minus the tomb run but even now it's not final.

So what else did they remove that makes it a casual game because it's far from casual.I have played for 5 years+ and have 5 level 55 characters, that's one a year.

I agree, Vanguard is not casual, it has plenty of extensive dungeons that need grouping, and it has raiding that needs even more cooperation and to be successful with raiding, you really need good cooperation and a good selection of classes.

It also has crafting and this other minigame unique to Vanguard, diplomacy.

P.s.: Okay, the last sentence makes no sense, these things are actually "casual" as you can only solo them.

    Yeah,it's far from casual..

Garvon3 obviously can't answer my questions to him, wouldn't be supprised if it had actually ever played Vanguard beyond a level 10.

Medium is around the 450 - 500 mark .. it doesn't take much

  • nerovipus32nerovipus32 Member Posts: 2,735

Vanguard definitely is not casual, even the regular mobs in that game are a challenge at times.

I subscribed to Vanguard too and it seems that I'm not the only one. Of course the game's still pretty top-heavy but I've met other new players as well.

(BTW, do NOT start on the Island of Dawn if you want a challenging game experience right from the get-go.)

Unfortunally the charm you get it too good to pass up just to get a challenging gaming experience on the mainland. The acumilative bonus you get to all 3 spheres is pretty damn good

But DO start from the IoD if you want the most kick ass item in the game;)

    @starpower and deadmilk:

I know, I know, I've mid-10s characters that came both from the island and the mainland, but I've ditched the island characters for good. The charm is probably the most overpowered item from the island but the other gear you get there is equally overpowered and just so easy to get.

I made the same character on the mainland and on the island: the island one has almost 50% more hitpoints, strength, etc. than the mainland one, just through all the magic gear the island throws at you.

It's def a hard decision because I love games that have racial starting areas.. What I did was do the IoD and then the mainland starting area. The mainland ones will give you no xp but I love the lore.

When I left the game I was on the last EU server.

Is that server still up or has it been finally merged to one only server?

If the EU server is still up, what's the population like there? Last time I visited it it was an empty desert.

Is SOE still transfering toons if petitioned? My main toon was originally created on the US server, then later on transfered to the EU one. Would they transfer it back to US if the EU server (if it happens to be still up) is still empty?

Many thanks if anybody can answer these questions.

It's interesting to note there are currently 456 people on the Vanguard forums. Not sure if this is usual but seems weird given it's the estimated people on at peak times. If they're like me they are waiting for an SoE announcement. Hopes, me hopes.

Just not worth my time anymore.

    You got a point.

And it makes plenty of sense to me. I can't honestly think of any new game that can offer the depth and complexity that VG can but that, at the same time, can be played as casually or hardcore as you like.

I have never ever felt as inmersed in any game as I have in VG.

Server count right now  = 200 people online

    81 players from 1 - 40

    11 players from 41 - 50

    108 players from 51 - 55

This is the same server load as last 5 - 6 months on a normal monday. There's no flux of new blood increasing the server population as it is now

At 220pm while many are at school or working that really does not look like a bad #.

Back in november before skyrim laucned ( november ) the population was higher than i had seen in a while. Our guild was approximately 40 ppl on at peak and 20 24x7 ( we are worldwide guild ). However, as soon as skryim release and then SWOTOR came, it was pretty bad... take those nubmers down to 10 and <10.

I came back in late january to check things out and it was dismall as well...

    Now ?

12-15 on 24x7 20-25 at peak and we are adding more people every day.

There are plenty of people to enojoy the group stuff with in vangaurd and even if they don't touch the damn game there is more content in vangaurd than the RIF+SWTOR+ name another recent release combined...

It is a great time to come back, look up  Twighlyte Song in game and we will wear you out in dungeons as soon as we get our hands on you lol.

Omw back to telon.. VG has taught me something lately... stop waiting and start playing... :)

If this was an swtor thread people would be jumping in saying the server size must have been reduced...obviously it hasn't here.

Not that I'm doubting your experience but

    http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/post/4406919

And then a much older from 2010

    http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/296255/Another-population-count-.html

Not that I doubt you had a good experience with the population back in November but that has to be the only month from 2010 - 2012 where it had a significant boost.
