oh boy... an enhancement... viagra for an old game... yippee. Sorry, thought an old favorite would get a new chapter.  The enhancement will be.. nice, I guess.

    Currently bored with MMO's.

Well i would prefere atari than having another da2 dissapointment.

On the other hand it may be another dissapointment from atari :)

    Lets keep hopes up

Will be a 50/50 if Atari or EA will be publishing this BG. Atari has the D&D licence as well as the old (bankrupted) Interplay, while EA is BioWare's 'mother' now and BG is a trademark of BioWare. If I have to take a pick, I'd say EA because I have more faith in BioWare when it comes to RPG's than Atari...

Actually, Baldurs Gate is a trademark of Wizards of the Coast.  WotC also recently took Atari to task for the mishandling of the D&D franchise and revoked the exclusivity from the liscense.  So, there is a chance that any number of developers could be handling a new game.

oh, and...less than a minute now

*rereads the back of the BG booklet*

Damn, you're right. Trademark by TSR (now WotC). How could I forget about that *looks over the shoulder at 2 bookcases of AD&D books*

It happens.  Only reason I'm up to date on the D&D liscence drama is I'm an avid player of DDO and the court proceedings were regular reading on the DDO forums.  Atari's screw ups and mismanagement the key reasons DDO nearly shuttered.  There was also some banter at the possibility of a Turbine made Baldurs Gate MMO, but nothing more than speculation.

I'm underwhelmed. :( While I enjoyed the "enhanced editions" of the Monkey Island games, they aren't -that- cool. I don't think this will drag me back in.

Bummer...I was hoping for an MMO. :P

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yeah, though I had hoped for a sequel or new BG-based series or something. Hm.

An mmo would be cool but baldurs gate and diablo are my 2 top pc games of all time.

Damn they are going to ruin our beloved summer time.

If it's an "enhanced" version of the original, does EA/BW get a cut?

I have become MMORPG, the destroyer of lore. :)

And thats pretty much why I wouldnt want a Baldurs gate MMO. WoW destroyed warcraft lore to the point where it was too unbearable to watch, they remained more or less true to the originals in vanilla wow but after that it went down hill pretty fast (muradins amnesia anyone?). Id have to play it of course and Id have a rotten time because it just wont be able to live up to the original games, its like watching george lucas rape indiana jones, no thank you.

Enhanced version you say? entriguing i just fired up a game of BG1 with Tutu the other day because i was bored, I am looking forward to this.

Original was Blackisle (interplay) if i am not mistaken, bioware had nothing to do with EA at the time and were only co developers. I assume the rights went back to TSR which sold to Wotc.

Anyway, bioware is dead and EA is still a crappy publisher.

Definately going to ruin mine, summer is usually when i don't have a lot of times for MMO so fall back on games like BG and D2. I can see many late night's and tired eyes in the sun ahead.

Bioware, Interplay, Black Isle and TSR are all on the box, but it is a blackisle.com web addy so not sure. Wait well there is an Interplay web address for trouble shooting in the owners mannual, so I don't know tbh.

Ok this comes from the back of the disc folder, take what you want from it

    From the new website:

    About Us

We are Overhaul Games. since we got our start at Bioware we've made a few games, met a few friends, and now we're back working on the games we love. For years we've wanted to continue our journey on Baldur's Gate, and now after months negotiations we get to do just that.

We're located in Edmonton along fashionable Whyte Avenue, down the street from the original Bioware office.

Seems it consist of former bioware devs.

Interesting. Very interesting considering the current D&D timeline actually.

My god it's taking ages to load a page in my browser! It's like waiting for porn in the 90's! I want to see what in the crispy crap is going on here!

  • ElikalElikal Member UncommonPosts: 7,912

I think it is good news still. I hope the overhaul is really making it playable. Who knows, if the game sells well, maybe they make more classic games in the future? And can hope, eh? ^^

No wait, acoustic couplers were the 80ies! Oh my... I am so old. XD

so same game with enhanced graphics, yippee

yawn if I want to play a circa 1998 game I would just load the original or Icewind Dale which was much better imo

whats next Wizardry 1 Enhanced, followed by Bards Tale 1 enhanced, ok I would actually play those

Same for me, I started getting paranoid and thought someone swapped my broadband over to 128k dial up.
