In the UK digital downloads are always more expensive than retail copies at release. The only exception to the rule is Steam from time to time.

Diablo 3 costs 45 pounds to buy from Blizzard Store, I bought the game for 30 pounds on Amazon. It currently costs 32 pounds on Amazon.

This is true for every major AAA game. Most of the times anyway. If digital = retail (by retail I mean online websites which ship the game, if you walk into an HMV/Game/Gamestation they will charge you a lot), then why would I bother with retail? I much rather have instant access to a game rather than wait for the game to be shipped.

Yes, I am shocked. I'm shocked it's not more. How much entertainment can you honestly squeak out of this thing. I know I drop no less than $20US at the movie theater for a 2 hour movie. Come on, really? I understand if your a 13 year old with no money other than your allowance to purchase this, but the average age of WoW players back in the day was 27 years old.  I'm sure it's pretty much the same crowd going to be here and they were paying a monthly sub on top of the origianl purchase price.

I too am shocked it doesn't cost more.  I mean FFS it's the same price as a single player RPG!!!  And it's BUY TO PLAY!  I think the price is VERY reasonable.

In the UK (which I guess the OP is talking about as he quotes UK prices) that is simply untrue....no matter, I see several people have shown examples in subsequent posts.

yup 3 ppl told me I was wrong and not being from UK I def. believe you guys! *cowers* I just think its odd that its different, here in the US all boxes cost the same as DD and the prices are very static.

Elite skills are for PvP - the Tome is for rewards for your guild (not for an individual player) and the other is to increase exp for a short time. Most games already have them so what is the big deal? They are not advantage items. A.net already stated that the skill of the player is the most important factor, as it was in GW1. They also said all the armor at a level will be the same and the looks will be different (that was the same in GW1).

I have played GW1 and have posted about it before.  As for what one considers pay to win is a matter of opinion.  I am of the opinion that buying "convenience" is a form of pay to win on the same level as buying gold.  Yes, you can grind in game to get it but buying it still gives you and advantage.

Many of us will have to just agree to disagree on this.  I view some of the items in the CE for instance to be pay 2 win type items.  Others do not view it that way and only view pay 2 win as buying an uber sword or something that you cant get in game.

Did you ever go to college? If you did, you know that every single cent counts :D Anyways sometimes I can go to the movies for 3.50 pounds (on Wednesdays if they have the 2 for 1 promotion). So I can see a lot of movies for 30-35 pounds :D But that's an offer available only to students :D

I don't see why the OP is QQing. This is not unreasonable. A lot of games like CoD, SWTOR cost like 45 pounds if you buy them directly from the publisher. I don't see why you would buy the game directly from ArenaNet though (the beta access?).

Here prices are also very static. Major AAA games cost about 30-35 pounds on Amazon and about 40-45 pounds if you buy them digitally from the publisher. You can still buy them digitally for 30-35 but if you don't buy it from the developer. It's just that US companies want to rip us off :D

What is to be shocked about? It costs the same as any other MMORPG released in the past 5 years except without a subscription cost ontop of it. People are really grasping at straws here....

I agree. Also, I would gladdly pay 3 or 4 times as much if there is no subscription fee. My biggest deal with subs is I feel forced to play the game which turns me off a bit. With GW2 if I don't feel like playing that day, or that week, I don't feel like I'm wasting money.

This is getting ridiculous. This game is well worth the money. You get 10 years of fun for 60 bucks, best pc game deal ever. I would pay 2-300 bucks minimum if i got to play now!

  • MothanosMothanos Member UncommonPosts: 1,910

Aion is free to play now, might try that if you cant pay for a GW2 copy :P ?

Seriously tough, games are expensive. its our hobby...so you have a choice to quit it or enjoy what you pay for.

Go out in the netherlands and give 1 round of drinks to your friends, i was shocked at the bill as i dint expect it to be 52 euro....around 80 dollar ?

How long you think 1 round of drinks last with your friends in a pub :) ? 10 minutes tops i can tell you !

So saying iam shocked by the rpice of GW2 makes me luagh real hard :)

I think i get at least 200 hours of gameplay out of it.

So come on guys, is it realy that much :)

So that means that PvP'ers buying skill packs in GW1 was an advantage? It wasn't you still had to learn the skills for PvE characters. All of it are non-issues really.

Some people just like to complain.

Let us wait for the release before we cry wolf.....

a fair price for GW2 would be $99.99 honestly for what you are getting, a complete MMO, without a sub

Apparently in the UK and France (or wherever the other person posting was from)  it is NOT the same price as other games.  I'm just curious....how much do games usually cost in the UK or anywhere using the euro?  Or are we dealing with more than just one different currency here?  Pounds and euros?  I don't know, I'm uneducated on this sort of thing.  Can someone answer that so this will make more sense?

I am actually shocked that it isn't higher.

A life sub in LOTRO or STO was 250 bucks and GW2 wont go F2P.

I actually assumed it would be around 80 bucks, which is what a new PS3 game cost here.

In Sweden a new game cost 80 bucks (around 550 SEK).

Influence directly impacts PVP.  And you get to buy extra influence if you get the CE.  The fact that you can buy influence by spending more money for the CE clearly indicates you will be able to do so in the cash shop as well.  I think that is a well grounded assumption.  More evidence they will then they wont at a minimum.

Now influence can buy you many advantages and you have to grind in game to get influence or you can buy it from a cash shop.  This is identical to gold selling then in my opinion.  Here are things influence can buy you:

    http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Influence

Guilds fighting without this influence will be at disadvantage in WvW combat.

Again, you may not consider this pay 2 win, but then you would also not consider buying gold pay 2 win.  And buying gold is considered cheating in many MMOs so I am clearly not alone in my views on this.

There has to be some sort of laws that make this possible, because in the US retailers make little to no money on media(CDs, games, ect books I dont know) there is a static price and retailers make their money off the extras you buy(controllers, systems, used games, ect). Now I will be the first to admit I do NOT trust anything on Amazon.. its just a personal thing.. I dont trust it because the companies I have never heard of and at least I couldnt see a seller ranking like on Ebay. Aside from my distrust I just dont see how they can sell the game cheaper if they are paying what major retailers are forced to pay to sell the game to you.

My experience is working for Circuit City and my husband working for Best Buy where employees for both companies can freely see the cost of items. So you can see why I wonder where they get these games from that they can sell them cheap than big name retailers.

It's not quite 10 dollars higher than what I usually pay for games.

Still I'm not buying at launch so hopefully a few weeks after there will be some 10 bucks off sales. I know in the US Target's pretty good for that.

I used to play MMOs like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee.

  • shi7anshi7an Member UncommonPosts: 14

yah too expensive for a game that doesn't even look that good.

hopefully they will knock the prices down after a couple of months.. when they realize that besides the fanboys nobody is happy with their high pricing.
