Apparently in the UK and France (or wherever the other person posting was from) it is NOT the same price as other games. I'm just curious....how much do games usually cost in the UK or anywhere using the euro? Can someone answer that so this will make more sense?
In Sweden a new game cost 80 bucks (around 550 SEK).
Holy cow. Well I guess I can see the problem then if it costs more than that for the standard edition, does it? I would sure feel better if I knew the prices were more equal everywhere......I mean, I'm still gonna buy it, of course, but with just a tad bit of guilt now.
the actual prices are all the same, its there government sweden has a 25 % vat tax that we dont have.. if we did we would pay 64.99 + 25% = which is 81 us dollars

their VAT is higher than most places, around 30% to 50% depending on the product, they also make more money than most

Dont ask them what their beer costs .
I've been there, I know!
can't get drunk on pocket change like I can in portugal
Thanks to our somehat nutty (in a bad way) conservative government, we hvae a 20% VAT added to everything, it's causing price inflation on all sorts of entertainment. The thing is is that you'll likely see the box price going for lower in brick & mortar or via online warehouse stores, but that's because they have to lower the price and take a hit to their profits to stay in the game.
So the box price will be cheaper than advertised. And if you buy it from the right place, the CE will likely be a good bit cheaper, too. The trick is is getting a deal on the CE and getting the 3-day headstart. That's the tricky thing. But that's what the Internet is for! There are plenty of deal sites out there.
It's not unusual for a publisher like NCsoft to sell things at full RRP though (which is what that is). Have you seen Blizzard's store, lately? Yeah.
Why does this thread exist? It's the price of any typical game on consoles, and any AAA title on PC. What's the problem?
p much
I think the OP is just used to finding good deals in brick & mortar/online warehouse shops. But those good deals will happen with Guild Wars 2, too. It's just a matter of being patient and watching the prices across a number of stores.
if this game was made by ncsoft i would ignore it for the simple fact of:i just came out of l2 reached level 46 and left!why would i leave if liked the game till level 46 you might ask!simple i wasd issue has nothing to do with the game!it is the same old issue they have had for years!gameguard!for some reason game get updated every second or two!this means if you move too fast, spam a skill too fast etc etc etc gameguard intervene and put you where it remembered you last time, turn too fast in wasd fashion!yep you guessed it gameguard put you in last known way!so if you are going 12 o clock for say 10 second in wasd fashion, then turn around cause for exemple you just noticed something stop there !then gameguard will turn you at 12 o clock! etc etc etc!
i sent them a email in korean and in english(gameguard)i doubt they ll bother looking into this since the game is f2p but i took the chance!just in case!
but lets be honest they have had years to fix this!it is a good thing guild wars 2 ISNT made by ncsoft but by arenanet!and i have played gw1 for years !aside from their silly remember your character name security !wich always cause me issue because i always play multiple game!arenanet made game are top notch!
These prices are quite standard people so they are not shocking. What we really have to wait and see is what they will sell in their item shop (a little concerned over boosts and elite skills) and at what prices. Another thing that we have to see is how much content GW2 will have in it's DLC's and/or Expansions, how much they cost and how frequent they are. GW2 could be pretty pricey or incredibly cheap but we can't tell yet, it remains to be seen, but as I said the prices are pretty good so far and nobody should be complaining about them.
Swtor was 59.99 with a sub, gw 2 for what they're delivering is a bargain. From what I gather though they're not trying to make an mmo that you play like you would a wow, sort of designed for you to be able to "finish" it and come back when they make an expansion. This is not a criticism, I am all for it, but i may also be dead wrong

What's so shocking? Pretty standard prices, IMO. Yes the CE is expensive, but it's hardly the most expensive one in the history of gaming. That goes to the KoA: Reckoning one, at a whopping $200. To their credit, it was limited to 700 copies, and featured a numbered figure designed by Todd McFarlane, something that may actually go up in value. Hell, the signature edition was $275, so...
Yeah, $150 really isn't all that much, considering.
Now the 'digital deluxe' edition, that's a ripoff. Most of the items are temporary, and thus not really worth it. I'll stick with the regular version myself.
Just based on the conversion rate, the UK price is a third higher than the U.S. price, but I don't know how typical that is for games in the U.K.
If the SE was $80 in the U.S., I wouldn't be happy, not because it wouldn't be worth it, but because I know it would make it a lot harder for me to get friends to buy the game.
Considering the game is f2p...i see no major malfunction. You buy it at that oh-so-ridiculous, over the top, wallet breaking price and play for life with no worries. How ruthless of Arenanet! Shame on them!!!
:sarcasm = off;
but seriously. Nothing wrong with the price seeing as you will be getting your moneys worth .
MMO's are the ark of the gaming world. Let it take us in new directions.

Same price as SWTOR, except it won't be all hype and there is no monthly sub fee. No not surprised.
"except it won't be all hype" is just funny. I do agree that it isn't surprising though.
Why does this thread exist? It's the price of any typical game on consoles, and any AAA title on PC. What's the problem?
No. A quality MMO without a monthly sub. Seems reasonable to me.
@OP
It's taxes, guy.

Google Shopping is pretty great for that.
Shocked how much it actually resembles the expected value of a B2P game which will be supported for years to come.
I swear - if the game was free people would complain that it wasn't free ENOUGH
Currently playing SWTOR and it's MUCH better than it was at launch.

$60 USD is peanuts to me... and my car is paid off.
i will send you peanuts if you give me $60. please? (i'm still going to buy GW2, but it's 1/3 of my money until i start work in the summer).
Those are standard prices, have been for years.
I am shocked. It's a great deal.

This.
I was expecting $70+ for a one-time price payment for a AAA MMO.
Besides $60 is now the price point for AAA games in general now. I don't like it anymore than you do but oh well.
