I think it's the objective of your past self to make you cringe.
LOL you Ameicans are obsessed with fuel price, but I can tell you that you are the most lucky ones. You shouldn't complain .............here in UK the gas is £4 ($7.5) a Gallon, so you are quite lucky
Personally I would be ashamed to ride around in a fancy sports car or a huge gas guzzling whatever that I really didnt need. I look down on people who drive around in expensive cars.
OIL PEAK. We are almost to the point where we have used half the worlds oil and it is getting harder and harder to pump out of the ground. In addition to the fact that we stupid Americans waste a ton of oil a year, drive bigger and bigger vehicles, yada yada yada. We have only ourselves to blame.

Not many people believe that the world's oil is peaking production. However, I do and think we should find alternative energy sources EXTREMELY soon. You can blame the rising oil prices on the Middle East but I think the real truth is is that we are running out of places to drill for new oil.
I seem to recall hearing something about the last time there was a huge price increase in gas, that the oil companies showed a 300% profit increase from the previous year despite their claims that the increase was due to import prices going up...
It all just looks like price gouging to me, but there's really nothing in the way to stop them from doing it because politicians are afraid to offend the companies due to the high amounts of "donations" they give for elections, which results in them having more pull in regards to lehislatures and such.
I live in California, just north of L.A. in the middle of the desert and the prices here are $2.69 for the cheap stuff. I'd gladly ride a bike whenever I need to go somewhere except for the fact that I have a screwed up ankle which leaves me requiring a cane to walk, and 2 children who are not old enough to ride bikes themselves...basically I have no choice except to use a car when I need to go somewhere. Besides, with the way half the people in my town drive I'd be too scared to ride a bike anywhere!

You'd think that we'd have far more oil after being in the middle east so long. More proof bush is an idiot. The iraqi's have what they want, we have saddam, time to put effort into oil production.
Synthetic and bio fuels have been around for decades. It is just that they can be created only so quickly, they are not as efficient as fossil fuels, and they are hard on engines. E85 may better for the environment and good for the oil crisis, but it burns more rapidly. In the end, you only save some 15 cents per gallon that you would spend on regular gas.

So in other words you want people to be drained out of their money until they can't afford gas so that the big Oil Corporations and pollution will fall?
I hate pollution just as much as the next person, but until that cleaner source of fuel is here; something needs to happen so people will stop getting gouged with oil prices. If this keeps up it will crash the economy.

I'm in Oklahoma. Gas is $2.57/gallon for mid grade. $2.65 for super.
Oklahoma is an oil producing state and we have a higher average than most states. Doesn't make sense to me. Soon gas is going to be a luxury that only the rich can afford. I now only drive to work, school, and drop my kids at school as well and the store for groceries. No more traveling for fun.
I remember roughly 3 years ago when gas was at 1.20/gallon and I thought that was high. No I could only dream for that. What does the government say? Gas prices will be absorbed by the US economy and will not affect us. $3.00/gallon is what we are looking forward to. I have a Honda Civic which gets roughly 28-35mpg with a 13 gallon tank, however 40 dollars to fill up every week is going to kill me.
Looks like I will be walking or riding a bike to my to and from work everyday pretty soon.
"Soaring oil prices are now hitting Norwegian motorists at the gas pump, and things could easily get worse.
"We are at NOK 11.32 per liter. This is an all time high for Shell in Norway," Shell information chief Jacob Olsbø told newspaper Finansavisen.
Statoil raised its liter price on gasoline to NOK 11.28 in July and Esso followed suit this Monday, pricing its Leadfree 95 at NOK 11.33 per liter.
One comfort for Norwegian motorists is that a relatively weak dollar has kept gas prices from rising even more.
Several Norwegian stations are helping keep local customers a bit happier by having price wars, with prices there still under NOK 10 per liter (USD 5.90 per gallon)."

Can someone please explain to me how when the price of a barrel of oil goes down $3.00 one day, the gas prices continue to rise the same day? This whole system is screwed. You'd think there would be some integrity with companies that literally "run" America. Gas here has gone from $2.49 a gallon [regular Shell] to $2.69 a gallon in two days. That's right, two days. This is ludacris.

Fuels are just one product that is refined from crude oil (you have plastics, cleaning chemicals, paints, and whole list of other stuff). And the reason fuels will rise when oil falls is due to demand vs supply(and crooked politicians).
But to really see a decrease in fuel prices, more fuel refineries must be built (in whatever country you live in). In the US there hasn't been a fuel refinery built since 1972...and we import something like 50% of our fuel.
And as to why Americans bitch about fuel prices so much...look at how poor our infrastructure is. Here in western Oklahoma there is no form of public transportation, so our vehicles get us work and everywhere else (and yes I'll be using a bike for the next couple of months). I'll be spending about $360 per month on gasoline just so my wife can finish her degree (if prices don't rise too much more), and damn that hurts...but on the flip side...I wouldn't have this job right now if oil prices dropped below $35 per bbl.

$2.20 here on the coast of S. Carolina.
I'm hoping the continuing rise in fuel prices may lead to a more extensive implementation and use of public transportation.

Yeah, amen to that.
Here, gas is almost the cheapest in Canada (about 96 cents a litre...that's the equivalent of about $3.50 a gallon...but we get paid more )
In Canada, gas under a dollar is a godsend. Hopefully, we won't be needing it too much longer, what with hydrogen and fusion and electric cars.
And canadians drill their own oil! Why so expensive?

well the gas price is going to rise 10 cents literally overnight here in wichita, bringing the price to around $2.50.
Taken from the news: "You can expect a 3 cent increase in gas prices for every dollar oil prices rise"
I think it's the objective of your past self to make you cringe.
Fear not for your precious oil. There are multiple new fuel options. They are cleaner, more efficient, etc. etc.
The oil companies bought them all out. The patents are sitting in a warehous a la Indiana Jones waiting to be unleashed and perpetuate their business.

2.40-2.50 here... and I agree, it sucks.

Edit: $2.49 - $2.55/G in Elk City, OK atm
Gas prices are now 2.75 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

KillerTwinkie - That one guy who used to mod mmorpg.com's forums.
last I checked it peaked at like $1.10 per LITRE here in Vancouver Canada...
4 Litre's is just over a US Gallon... that's almost $4.40 (CAD) per Gallon...
now convert that $4.40 Canadian into American, and at current conversion, that's about $3.61 USD...
that's right... $3.61 per Gallon...
$3.61 (USD) PER FRIGGIN GALLON IN CANADA AND YOU'RE COMPLAINING!?!?!?!?!!
