Areas to large?

AmjocoAmjoco Member UncommonPosts: 4,860

I was wondering what people thought about large social gathering places. I watched this video and was overwhelmed by the size of this city. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjLmknda6_Q&list=PL2C776E5F3DF3B531&index=2&feature=plpp_video. My question is  do you think these areas may be to large? I remember in WoW when Orgrimmar was enlarged and how people cried about how much larger it was and how a pain in the butt it was to get around in, it seemed to thin us out. I pesonally love the idea of the adventuring and huge size but think we may lose some of the social attributes of being fenced in to smaller areas.

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

I think its good thats its big, and i dont really think it spreads the community because as long as your in the same town i can speak to you in "say" chat.

but some people will complain if its 2 big and some will complain if its 2 small just the way it works

well they have a natural gathering spot in cities, being their mini games, think that will do the job

I can see your point and sort of agree, the cities are large and if there was any reason for mounts it would be this. I can only hope that there are multiple areas where key vendors/repair ppl are... because running from one end of a city to another to finish up your businaess is a pain in the butt

can never be too large, got to keep people exploring and interested in a place. what's the use if you see everything in the first 5 mins?

i look this wrecked because i've got GIST.
    Whats your excuse?

I was never dissatisfied with the size, just was curious on what others thought. Did Bioware spend to much for voice acting and not enough for actual content on SW:TOR? Perhaps to much was put into a GW2 city that you really can't do much in but adventure. These arent complaints, just curious thoughts.

I always loathed so called cities that contained 3 houses and a dog. So this is a welcome addition. It's a city it's supposed to be big. People will gravitate towards certain areas regardless of how big it is.

That's how GW1 was, but I'm pretty sure GW2 has separate local and zone chats. It'd need to, given how big the cities are and the fact that they've done away with districts.

Really! Some people just cant be pleased. To BIG... /jawdrop

But all those people in Orgrimar are just sitting there, whats the point of the gathering? With chat you can be anywhere in the world, it doesnt matter.

Besides, I hated going thier because of the lag, but thats where most of the stuff I needed was, I didnt like it at all.

First people are complaining that GW2 isn't seamless, and its' areas are too small and instanced to be a good MMO. First time I've seen people saying some of its' areas are too big.

People will congregate naturally in specific areas as the game's community evolves. It's just the way of things. It may vary from server to server, but as time passes, there will be generally one or two cities or hubs, usually with a ton of convenient vendors, auction houses and a cool backdrop, that will become the centre of player gatherings. It's just the way of MMOs, has been since their conception.

I'm really sick of the whole "There's a massive fanbase for X", or "Y would be a WoW-killer if it just had a chance".

There is no massive conspiracy waiting in the MMO playerbase.

There are no "sleeper-agent fans" waiting to convert once the X or Y is unleashed on the world.

Its just epic, cool, fun and it is looking great. Do you like the Rift pathetic cities? They are just so big to shelter all important NPC and thats all.  Enjoy it. [Mod Edit]

Teleportation negates any potential troubles with largeness.

    That is all!

(Also, I think I brought the WoW plague to doom us all by hating on Diablo III so hard that rabid, butt-hurt fanboys (and potential employees) turned up. Sorry everyone!!!)

Aren't your character supposed to have a city quarter or whatever is in place for personal story and player house system? this might explain the dimension or i'm just totally off?

on topic: You can teleport around the city, and there are NPC's that give u speed buffs(as oposed to mounts)

I agree that teleportation negates the largeness, but teleportation also necessitates it  in that  they tend to make even large areas feel smaller. I think  Anet saw this and that is one of the reasons the cities are so huge. If that makes any sense.

I think we should start one to keep this thread company over at the "We'll Find Something To Complain About No Matter What" table.

Some people really aren't interested in having fun in a MMO, they enjoy b!tching about them too much on forums like these.

I dont think they are to large ,tho i hope they are filled enough with npcs and make sure that ppl hang out in the citys alot . I did think wow did have one of the best citys i ever seen in  a mmorpg , not only because of the scale but also the epic music that would play up when entering like stormwind or darnassus.

There are already a multiple of those threads around. Mostly speaking about all clones that will appear if GW2 is successful, i.e. fun.
