Can someone explain to me why D3 and GW2 will be competing in anything?
D3 isn't even going to release with multiplayer and there is, as yet, no word as to when that part of the game will be ready.
So yeah, why can't we play both?
They will only compete with 1st sales, gw2 will take a back seat from alot of gamers. Ill get both also but i will probably get d3 1st as everyone i know is gonna play it. If it was not for annoying rl friends i would have gotten gw2 1st :P
I wont be able to play 2 games at once, all my free time will go to d3 with friends until we get bored. Then its time for some gw2
Though as someone mentioned, if they start accepting people's money (in full) they're sort of obligating themselves to releasing sooner rather than later, so I don't see a late summer release being really likely.
Exactly.
Pre-order and pre-purchase very different, IMO.
Ummm no it doesn't obligate them. GW2 might very well be vaporware! They could be stealing everyones money up front and moving to some small island off the coast of Italy.

doubt that to be honest, D3 hasn't been getting an overwhelmingly positive response lately then the fact that Blizz is rushing it out the door before it's ready has people worrying more about it. Most I know are taking a pass on D3 for various reasons already, the rush launch is just adding more to the pass list.
lol, so many signs point to D3 being a dissapointment from the "Get D3 free with a 12 month sub to WoW" to the "Ok, it's not exactly ready yet.... but it's launching in May!".
April 10th my monies going to GW2.
And for those saying they shouldn't go against the Goliath, no matter where you look it appears Anet's GW2 is Goliath not D3 lol.
May 29th assuming the beta weekend this month is the weekend of the 23rd, after that the following week announcing it would give the usual 8 week release announcement -> launch window. If the march beta weekend is on the weekend of the 30th, the first week in June.
I think the OP has it backwards. Blizzard is the one taking a big chance by launching when they are. I think Anets former comrades may be playing chicken...............they will soon be in the ditch if they are.
If they were to release this game before Diablo 3 somehow, I would probably be inclined to skip D3 at least for quite a while. Chances are it won't happen, so I guess D3 might be the time killer for a lot of people for this.
Will they decide to go head to head with D3 and launch in May, try to get a jump start (probably not possible based on current beta schedule) or go a bit later, perhaps in late June/early July to let some of the fervor for D3 die down first.
I know, all speculation but hey, that's what forums are for.
I guess May/June. And they will most probably announce a release date before, or at the very day the preorder starts. So i guess we will know at Apr. 10th. And about D3... i seriously guess they will sell a lot more than 1 million preorders, so it isnt really a matter, even if some may first buy D3 and come later into GW2. But almost everyone following now GW2 will most probably preorder anyway, even it is just the simple digital version, which i probably go with. I dont care about gimicks.
Though as someone mentioned, if they start accepting people's money (in full) they're sort of obligating themselves to releasing sooner rather than later, so I don't see a late summer release being really likely.

Unlikely.. at least the little island off the coast of italy.. European court is really tough with economic crime.. but maybe a lil caribean island.
If they wait too long, they'll be up against MoP which is likely in December.
Then again, given the MoP press releases, that might be a good thing.

Because according to these forums everything is related to GW2. You could be talking about WURM online and village projects and someone will have to get in a point about e-sports or, 'dynamic content'. They just can't help themselves! :P
On the subject, I'd say it depends on how the weekend betas go, (is it next month?) You can have the best intentions in the world but you'll need some stress testing in a live as can be enviroment to see how they hold. If that go's well expect a ramp up towards a release date soon. If they go badly it may be a while longer.
Are the two titles competing? Maybe, you have to remember a lot of bored wow players will get D3 because it's a Blizzard game. Also a lot of those fans aren't hardcore gamers, they don't neccesarily buy more then one game at a time. Another factor is there's still a lot of diablo fans who've waited 12 years for it. GW2 pricing model means it'll probably compete with any mainstream title that launches around the same time. Considering that it's slightly more expensive then other new release games, (from ANET site of course), it'll be interesting to see how it pans out...
I've been pretty convinced it will launch in June even before the D3 release date was announced, I don't see any reason at all that D3 would alter that in any way.
BTW, as to pre-purchases, I see nothing wrong with taking full payment two months in advance, with beta event access thrown in as a bonus. However, if we were to pre-purchase in April and not see release until August or later, then I think there would be a lot of angry people. (I realize that Blizzard essentially started to pre-sell D3 to WoW players with the annual pass deal more than six months prior to the launch of D3, but for people who were going to be playing WoW anyway, that deal offered a lot more value in the interim than the promise of a monthly weekend beta event between purchase and launch).
You can pretty much gauge from the preorder starting date that it won't be released the same time as D3.
The earliest date this is going to get would be in July and more than likely that is pushing it.

I expect middle/late june. TSW was postponed to mid June but I doubt ANer really cares.
It's like asking if blizzard will move around mop so as not to clash with bioshock

Diablo 3 its a completely different game , so no point to worry about GW2

I am going to say July or early August. They are taking things really slow and I would rather say that a open beta might come in June
GW2 will release when it's ready. Like Anet has been saying since the game was announced.
D3 is unrelated and is not referred to when they decide the date.
If they wait too long, they'll be up against MoP which is likely in December.

"D3 isn't even going to release with multiplayer "
lawlz of the week.
This should have been said repeatedly by now, but I'm not going to bother to check...
They will launch it when it's ready.
Oderint, dum metuant.
Probably 4-6 weeks after it goes gold. So I reckon July based on estimated # of beta weekends compared to the first game beta schedule.

They're different types of games and I don't see how they would compete against each other.
GW2 release date? Mid summer? Whenever it's ready.
