I think the first month will be fun, in a action game type of way. But as for longevity, not with GW2, Secret World, and hell even diablo 3 coming out the timing is going to sink it as well, at least in the west.
Isee Tera as a nice little niche style MMO with the way they handle BAM's and combat and will garner a rather respectable population, probably about the same as a Rift but not approaching the population of a SWTOR. It will do fine and make enmasse plenty of money. It obviously wont kill WoW or come close to being a mega success but it should do fine.
Playing: GW2 Waiting on: TESO Next Flop: Planetside 2 Best MMO of all time: Asheron's Call - The first company to recreate AC will be the next greatest MMO.
Originally posted by grimal I tried it out this weekend and was quite disappointed (mind you, I didn't have any real expectations). Things I disliked: 1) World looked blurry. Not sure if this is intentional or something just in beta, but all the graphics had a blurry feel to them that maked it look out of focus (except the text).
The blurry world is from their version of Antialiasing. If you disable theirs, and force it on in your graphics control panel, it looks ~tons~ better.
Feedback on the broken AA is one thing I have been leaving each beta period.
After playing the last beta weekend I found the combat to feel refreshing. It was a nice change but it wasn't enough to get me excited for the game. I have to say, Tera is probably the most underwhelming MMO hype-wise that I've seen so far (imo). In the mix of all these anticipated titles (SWTOR, GW2, TSW, D3), I feel like Tera will be left behind in the dust and become the MMO that could've been.
For some reason I don't see it catching on to be (very) successful in the West.
Well one reason for the lack of hype is EME hasn't really go all out on advertising it. Tera basically traveling word of mouth here and well people in America is heavly influence by media. If its not on the media they assume its not good. case and point SWTOR put had so much media coverage people brought it and play it to find out it sucked for them even though during Beta people already expressed all those concerns but people got it anyways coz the media said it was good till they found out it was crap later. SWTOR,GW2,TSW, and D3 all recieve much much much more media coverage than Tera thus lot of people assume Tera isn't on the same lvl because its not covered as much. So its fault of EME here for not getting Tera enough coverage but agian Tera pretty low funded compare to most these titles so i guess the lack of budget is showing a lot here, but i rather they spend money on the game than spend money on ads as we seen with SWTOR.
