Yeah, ok, whatever. I'm not convinced, convince me.
Tell me why I should buy this game, what are the features, what makes it so special? And don't tell me it's innovative either lol.
Their skimpy website is a concern, I see nothing that makes me want to buy it.
What has got me interested in the game is the real world fantasy setting, its somthing that I like and could enjoy getting into.
The skill based lvl system also is a big pull as well as the combat system, and of course the graphics its using the same engine as Age of Conan so will probally look amazing.
Themepark types gaems are not usually my thing but TSW is the only upcoming MMORPG that im looking forward to this year..
Is it enough for me to pre-order right now.. nope mainly because i dont like playing £40 for a game when the average price for a new game is around £30 here in the UK.. PC games anyway..
Pssst Caldrin...your never gonna convice him..why bother. He's just out for attention
At least he tried, perhaps you're the one out for attention, I just want some solid info. which you're unable to provide.
on the flip side..you have yet to convince me to try
No matter how cynical you become, its never enough to keep up - Lily Tomlin
Sub-fee and cash-shop? Yeah, no thanks. F2P + cash-shop is fine. Hell, a freemium model like DCUO has would be cool, too, especially with the latest Legendary spiffs, but this? Naw.
I make spreadsheets at work - I don't want to make them for the games I play.
Yeah, ok, whatever. I'm not convinced, convince me.

Alright thanks, I agree about skill-based, love that. But what else? There website is seriously void of decent information and I refuse to drop cash based on blingy vids anymore. I also find the game interesting on the surface but I don't see the depth factor. All I see is another 1-2 week time waster.
Well im not willing to pre-order yet either lol.. hopefully i will get into one of the betas and wit will help me decide, but i agree there is not much info around...
I have been lucky with betas lately and they have stopped me wasting a ton of cash on SWTOR and only recently on another massive title thats out later this year.. both times the beta helped me realise no matter how many bugs i reported the base game was still just bland.. i know thats not what betas are really for but still

Hmm, I'm wondering if they have a NDA. My guess is yes. I see a lot of signs that this is just another shallow game.
And like someone said, the lifetime option is worrisome.
"Censorship is never over for those who have experienced it. It is a brand on the imagination that affects the individual who has suffered it, forever." - Noam Chomsky
Just the fact they offer "lifetime subscription" is worrysome...but then I saw so many things that can not be unseen.
This makes me sad, the regular game doesn't even seem to come with 30 days free.
Funcom, what are you doing?
You dont need to worry, after seeing a lifestime subscription option you can pretty much know, with absolute certainty that funcom has no confidence in the longevity of their title.
There isnt one successful lifetime sub MMO out there, everyone of them, EVERYONE has failed within the year. That is just fact.
+1 + I was a beta tester for both LOTR and TSW so I know his theory is correct. Thats why I suggest u get urself a beta account but have the option to cancel the preorder.
Mmmm i'm torn. Some things that put me off. First XP potions that will for sure be in the cash shop. Items in the cash shop that I don't agree with along with a sub. I really like nothing about this and it is sad because I was really excited about this games potential.
The only thing I like is that there is a $200 lifetime sub. I will spend $100-$150 on a CE of a game I really like and I wouldn't mind doing so here if I knew it was going to be around for the long haul and it would be interesting, but then again with a cash shop with items like this I am more inclined to just skip this one.
I guess I will see how reviews are after being out 2-3 months. Diablo 3 and GW2 are two games that I know will steal thousands of hours from my life and have no subs. I don't feel like I even need an MMO right now. Maybe in a year when I get some game time freed up if this is going strong I will jump over.
Anticipation moved to World of Darkness and ArcheAge my only two hopes for this genre.

Is it that bad? Games888. I was secretly (no pun intended) rooting for them to have their shit together and launch a decent MMO. Lord knows the Western market could welcome more decent titles.
I think the lifetime sub is well priced but it really comes down to if you trust Funcom to deliver and unfortunately at this point I'm not sure I do.
If there was just more information about the state of the game it would help to make a more informed decision. Of course if the game is successful they will clearly remove or increase the cost of the lifetime sub, so it really comes down to if you want to take a chance.
I think the biggest problem I have with TSW is not the game itself it's the bad reputation Funcom has especially regarding launches and bugs.
They should be commended though for not just making another clone mmo and for that reason alone I may just pre-order.

LOTRO didn't fail within a year. It had 2 expansions before it went free to play over 4 years after launch.
It says you may run into some trouble if you use Firefox on the Beta app. I think I will take the wait and see approach on this one though. Too little information available for me. Once bitten twice shy. But I hope it is a good game.
Ballerinas are always on their toes. Why don't they just get taller ballerinas?

It's up to you of course, but personally I wouldn't trust the opinions of people who have shown GW2 fanboism - or any sort of fanboism - to a degree that they feel compelled to bash other MMO's, nor people who claim that LotrO was a failure. It's all opinions any way.
Just try beta out yourself if you get the chance, and see if it's a game you like or not. Just like with every game, you'll have people who will dislike it and who will like it, you have to determine for yourself if the arguments you use apply to yourself and on what side of liking/disliking you'll be.
With money and time getting a little tight right now, Guild Wars 2's business model and design definitely fit a lot better for my situation.
Sadly, the more I think about it logically, avoiding my general interest in the theme and setting of TSW, it just makes sense for me to pass on the title for now.
Why do I write, create, fantasize, dream and daydream about other worlds? Because I hate what humanity does with this one.

Think there is more to that.
I think Funcom PLANS to convert TSW to freemium some (my guess would be 1 - 1,5 ) time after.
Of course financial success or lack thereof may speed up or slow down for few months one way or another this process ,but imo this is alrady decided.
Why not release it as freemium ?
That's kinda obvious = money.
Box / lifetime sales will be FAT millions and what's more important that will be FAST money. Bulk of them will be made in first month or two after release when box sales are exceptionally strong. Than after some time when this revenue stream dry up - painless from Funcom infrastructure (cash shop already present, playerbase accustomed to microtransactions) switch to freemium.
Brilliant and hugely important thing for whole mmo market strategy - you can be sure it will be very tightly observed by all mmo companies and depending on it's success incorporated or not into their own future games.
Think carefully about signing up. Google "age of Conan launch issues problems". Same company, same people, same pre-launch hyper hype. Diablo III launches 4 days late- play it for a couple months, then try SW.
So a P2P game with a cash shop (with maybe exp potions at least?), and a lifetime sub available... from Funcom. And the NDA is still up? Seems like people can really make a leap of faith here if they feel like it.
Since all the "packs" are optional it suggests that the 49.99 price is mandatory..? So the life time sub is 49.99 + 199.99 = 249.98 then..?
I wouldnt buy a preorder or life sub for any game really, I'm more of a wait-and-see type. But to each their own I guess.
This is some hardcore nickel and dimeing. Never before have I seen this addon stuff. I got the 200$ add on that gives a life-time sub, wouldn't pay for anything under that unless it had game-time, which the 50$ one only had 30-days.
im looking forward to this game, but not too forward ahead. Too many games coming out to preorder them all. Since this one seems to charge the player for everything ill wait for the box to drop on price or have a special offer post launch.

Don't you think they learned a little from back then?!
If they make the same mistakes again, then they do deserve to fail.
Yeah, ok, whatever. I'm not convinced, convince me.

lol, are you for real? Convince you? What do you think the people visiting this site are, Funcom's PR department?
I see you can't.
Anyone? Why should I drop my cash on this game?
Why do you think anyone cares to convince you? *rolls eyes*
I've already asked - was ignored. Ignore back? *shrug* seems really silly to me.
You never answered my question and you're surpised I ignored your response? Heh.
If you don't like the question just ignore it. It's pretty simple really.

Indeed.
I wouldn't be surprised if Funcom sees less than desirable numbers from their pre-order sales, especially with other really great titles on the way as well, including GW2 and it's buy to play for free forever business model.
I think the guys at Funcom who make these sorts of decisions are doing what seems like a fairly brilliant game some injustice... this will likely hurt their numbers.
Instead, they should've gone with the buy to play for free + cash shop model. They need as many people in as possible so they should have made the barrier of entry far more enticing and easy.

Not going to buy this one, first is they haven't fixed their account system. Second 1€=1$ crap. They just don't learn do they...
